Chapter 3

Author: Hairy-Hair
With Hayden's silent approval, I grew bolder.

But the prize money I had won from the lottery was already gone, and the card he had just raised the limit on had been maxed out again. The high-end renovation materials I needed cost tens of thousands.

That last renovation payment was weighing on my mind, and I couldn't rest easy.

Hayden had been so busy with company matters lately that he barely had time to rest, and I couldn't bring myself to ask him again. After all, everything I was doing was no different from going insane to him.

After thinking it over, I turned my attention to the safe.

Inside was an entire cabinet of car keys, along with dozens of paperwork for properties in other cities, all trophies from my travels around the world.

"Mom! That square key! Isn't that the yacht key Uncle X gave you? That yacht can be traded for a high-powered heating system and several truckloads of Wagyu beef. Hurry up and sell it!"

I made the decision immediately and listed all the cars and out-of-city properties online.

I had once treated these things as symbols of status, but now, they were all just something flashy and useless.

I posted them for sale on all my social media accounts.

To cash out as quickly as possible, I sold anything the moment someone made an offer to pay fully in cash, even at a loss.

Later on, just when I was at the broker's office to meet the buyer for the yacht, Tina showed up again. It just so happened that the yacht was the last expensive item I had to deal with.

She had come with a few of her friends from the circle to buy a vintage Camaro. When she saw me selling the yacht, her eyes lit up like searchlights.

"I knew it! Something huge must have happened to the Gomez family. Kirsten has fallen so far that she's selling off assets and properties now!"

Tina wanted the whole hall to hear that loud voice of hers.

I had no time to deal with her. Every minute was precious now.

After receiving the cash, I once again used the connections I had made while shopping in Edolas to get two high-capacity polyimide heaters, along with several hundred pounds of gunpowder from the black market.

The smell from the gunpowder was especially sharp. The neighbors next door lost it as soon as the trucks delivered them into the garage.

The HOA manager brought several security guards to my gate and insisted that I move the "whatever the powder was" away immediately, saying again and again that it was far too dangerous.

"No! I dare you to touch them!"

I guarded the barrels tightly as I threw a tantrum. How would we survive without the gunpowder? How would we blast through the ice in the extreme cold weather? Without ice, how could we get water?

"Kirsten, if you keep doing this, we'll have to call the police," the HOA manager said, looking upset.

Just then, a Cullinan stopped at the door.

Hayden was finally back.

He glanced at me as I was seething with anger, then at the property manager, who was covered in sweat. "What's going on here?"

The HOA manager looked at him like he had seen an angel. "Mr. Gomez, your wife has stockpiled a large amount of gunpowder in the garage. Forget code violations, this is illegal..."

Hayden rubbed his forehead and stepped forward, pulling me behind him.

"I have a use for this gunpowder. I'll arrange for a professional team to handle the blast containment. If anything happens, I'll take full responsibility."

The HOA manager was stunned. But since Hayden had already said his piece, he couldn't say anything else and could only leave with nothing more to say.

Looking at Hayden's broad figure from the back, my eyes suddenly turned red. He turned around and looked at my disheveled appearance before sighing. Then, he clapped his hands.

The driver drove over an all-black off-road vehicle. The car was over the top and looked even stronger than an armored truck. Its entire body was made of steel plates, and the glass was probably as thick as bricks.

"This is the...bulletproof car you wanted."

Hayden's tone was full of helplessness.

"Although I don't know who you're trying to protect yourself from, since you're making a fuss about this, you might as well go all the way."

I ran forward and hugged him, smearing tears and snot all over his custom suit.

"Honey! You're just too good to me! When the world turns into a glacier, I definitely won't let you freeze or starve! I'll make sure you live as freely and comfortably as you do now!"

Hayden's body stiffened, and he patted my back. "Alright, I'll thank you in advance."

There was only one week left before the world ended in ice, like my twins' had warned.

For the twins' sip-and-see, I chose the oldest orphanage in the city and made a list of the remaining supplies.Three thousand four hundred cans, nine hundred pounds of ration bars, two tons of frozen meat, eighteen high-powered heaters...The director's hands trembled as she signed. "Kirsten, did you empty half a supermarket?"I waved it off. "Don't mention it. I plan to grow roses next year anyway, so I need to clear some space."That day, "Woman Donates Millions-worth in Supplies" became trending at the top again.Hayden's mother held her grandson and beamed at the camera. "Kristen is such a blessing to our family!"I quietly kicked Hayden under the table. "Hey, buy your mom a new silk scarf. Stop letting her carry her Hermes around like a weapon."Hayden chuckled and stuffed two credit cards into my hand. "Use them as much as you want. You can turn the garden back into a forest if you want."-When the children turned three, I tore down the last blast-proof walls and revea

On the day the snow stopped, I rolled up the reinforced shutter. Sunlight finally arrived, falling softly on my face.In the distance, the city had become a gray-white scene, like a pencil sketch faintly erased by an eraser.I stepped through the waist-high crust of ice and handed the last bag of ration bars to my "temporary workers."They lined up in a crooked queue, their jackets worn to a shine. However, they all consciously left the middle spot empty. That was where Tina had once stood. She didn't live to see the snow stop.Three nights ago, she had taken advantage of a shift change to climb over the wall, trying to sneak into the basement storage. In the end, she stepped on the ice shards she didn't clear during the day. She fell from the thirty-foot fence, and her neck snapped.Hayden said that she had shouted with her last breath toward the lit window of our manor to just give her a sip of hot water. After hearing that, I only screwed the lid of the thermos tighter. The

Tina lived in the gray-white manor to the right of my estate. At that moment, she was wrapped in nothing but a thin towel, and her face was covered in ice crystals. It was like she was about to turn into an ice sculpture."Kirsten... Can you give me some firewood and food, please?" Her voice trembled, and her eyes stayed fixed on the bowl of steaming stew, as if she could have it through the screen."My house has been out of food and power for three days. We don't even have a piece of bread, and we don't have heat either. Can you give me some firewood and potatoes? Even sprouted potatoes are fine..."I looked at her coldly through the phone screen. "Sorry, I'm a crazy woman. My craziness is contagious. I'm worried you'll turn into a crazy woman like me if you use the things I bought."Tina became anxious, gritting her teeth on the other end of the screen. "Kirsten! Don't go too far! We're still family, after all! You stockpiled a whole house full of supplies. What's wrong wit

It stayed that way until dawn broke and the first ray of morning light came in through the gap in the curtains. The sun was bright, and the wind was gentle, as if nothing had ever happened.I looked around at the mountain of cans, the cases of bottled water, and the cold weather suit on me that was as heavy as armor. Only one thought remained in my mind.Public humiliation. This was not a home. It was the set of a doomsday prepper reality TV show.Hayden took off his vest, tossed it onto the sofa, and rubbed his stiff shoulders and neck. He didn't laugh at me. He simply walked over and gently patted my head. "It's fine. Think of it as stocking up early for the Christmas holidays that are coming anyway. With what we have, we can invite every friend and family over and throw parties until next winter without running out."I buried my face in the cushion. I didn't want to face the world anymore.-For the next three days, everything was so calm and peaceful. It felt like the cal

Over the past few days, Tina had been spreading rumors all over our social circle. She claimed Hayden's company had a cash flow problem, that Hayden was not only facing bankruptcy, but the company had also taken on massive debt. She even said I had gone insane.A few business partners who worked with Hayden's company even asked him about it tactfully."Mr. Gomez, I heard your place has been...undergoing some major renovations lately? Making quite a lot of noise, huh?"Hayden remained perfectly calm at the other end of the phone as he explained, "It's fine. My wife is carrying twins, and her mood has been all over the place lately. I'm thinking of it as…building her a 'private wellness room' so she can relax."The other party laughed loudly and praised Hayden for taking such good care of his wife.Meanwhile, I was acting as if the end of the world was really coming. My anxiety had reached its peak.I kept on feeling that the supplies still were not enough, so I bought dozens of
