Chapter Ten - His Twisted Offer

Sydney

“I’ll escape if you touch me!” And I meant every word I said. He might be hot, but I wasn’t getting involved. My plan was straightforward. I would take up some work, and when I had enough, I would start afresh somewhere far away.

He chuckled, not believing a word I said, and lay down next to me. “Soon you’ll be begging me to touch you, Princess. I promise you that.”

“Go nuts, Mr. Kill, cause that’s never happening.” I dumped a few cushions between us, turned my back to him, and pulled the duvet over my head to sleep. That was enough to block him out, right?

Wrong.

I could hear him chuckling even through the thick duvet. Suddenly, I felt a weight on my body and gasped. Was it what I thought it was?

There was only one way to find out. Pulling the duvet down a little, I peered out but gasped to find Killian in my personal space. Just as I had guessed, he had rolled over to pin me under his weight. The poor cushions lay at the foot of the bed, having failed to serve their purpose.

“What are you doing in my space? It’s not working, Killian. I still have zero wish to beg you. So fix your d*ck and go to sleep.” My cheeks flushed with color as talking dirty sapped up all my courage. I wasn’t used to talking this way, to warding off se*ual advances.

He chuckled, but refused to budge. Obviously, he couldn’t decline his aroused state. Even through the thick duvet, I could feel him grinding his co*k against me. Although I tried to remain unaffected, I was far from feeling so.

He sobered and looked me up and down. “I haven’t even started trying, sweet. Guard your heart, cause I don’t play fair. One month is enough to make you beg.” There was nothing sweet in the look he gave me. I could see a strange emotion, almost akin to hatred. Was I imagining it? Why would Killian hate me? If he did, he wouldn’t have helped me, right?

“I accept the challenge. Good luck with your mission, Killian. Tomorrow I’ll be out job hunting all day. Once I get something, I’ll disappear.”

His jaw clenched, and he rolled off me. “You can work for me. The offer is still open.”

I scowled at him. “As what? Your se* slave?”

He gaped at me and then grinned. What a bipolar guy!

“That’s a great idea! So, are you ready for it? I’ll pay you 30 million dollars for a month.” He cocked an eyebrow, waiting for my reply impatiently.

My jaw dropped to the floor. Was he crazy? “Are you planning to rob a bank or something? Have you seen that amount ever?” I had it in my bank before my dad blocked everything.

“That’s not your concern. Just decide fast. You have the entire night to think it over.” He closed his eyes with an evil smirk on his face. Did he think I would stoop that low for money? Obviously, he didn’t know me at all.

“There’s nothing to decide. Shove your money up your ass. I don’t sell my body. With my degree and two hardworking hands, I can find decent work to earn a living. As for se*, I’ll give myself only to the man I love. Good night.”

I fumed as I turned away from him. How could he make such an offer? Did he really have women falling for such tricks? Well, I would never. He might be irresistible, but I had no wish to surrender my virginity, my dignity, to him, for a few bucks.

Love was the only thing that would make me spread my legs for a man. It might be old school, though, but I was that way.

After my speech, Killian went exceptionally quiet, as if he was rethinking his strategies to make me surrender. Well, he should have understood by now that nothing would work except love. And love was the last thing I would ever feel for him. He wasn’t even my type. The lust I felt for him would vanish once I left him and moved on.

Pulling the duvet over my head, I dozed off to sleep in a better frame of mind. I was happy to find a solution to my problem.

The next morning, when I woke up, Killian was nowhere in the tent. I freshened up and headed to the restaurant for coffee and breakfast. Thankfully, I was just in time for the complimentary buffet breakfast.

With Killian nowhere in sight, I helped myself quickly. I had to go job hunting before he returned. But first, I needed to change the SIM card. Then I could change my phone’s privacy settings to prevent anyone from tracking me down.

The staff at the restaurant guided me to a mobile shop at the shopping center of the camping site. Relieved, I walked towards it after breakfast.

“You’ll get it after three days, miss,” said the shopkeeper, and my heart sank.

“Please, I need it now. I have a job interview and my SIM got damaged.”

He had no way of knowing, as I had already discarded my previous SIM card. At last, he issued me one, and I thanked him with relief.

After ten minutes, my phone was ready to use. I walked back to the tent to search for some jobs in Cape Town. Where would I find jobs in this secluded place? Could I talk to the owner of this camping site? Surely he could employ me.

I loved the idea and rushed out in search of the owner of this place. My life depended on this, and I had to convince him. I asked a staff member for help.

“Mr. Barlowe has gone out, miss. You can wait in his office or come back after an hour.”

I felt disappointed, but I wasn’t giving up. “Where’s his office?”

He gave me the directions, and I went towards it, mustering up enough courage to convince him of a job. With a degree in fashion design, it was impossible to find my specialization here, but I was open to any type of work.

I waited in his office for almost an hour, but there was no sign of Mr. Barlowe. What if Killian had returned and was looking for me? He would be furious that I ignored his offer and came here looking for work.

I grunted, remembering his offer. Why would he want me to be his se* slave if he didn’t desire me?

It only meant he did. So I didn’t imagine the se*ual tension between us.

The door opened, and I looked up, startled out of my wits. I composed my jumpy nerves and waited for Mr. Barlowe to enter. But to my immense surprise, it was Killian who entered the office.

He cocked an eyebrow at me with surprise. “You? What are you doing here?”

“I’m here to meet the owner, Mr. Barlowe. So, what are you doing here? I hope you aren’t here to complain about the server from last night.” I frowned at him in disbelief. Wasn’t he pathetic to go after a poor man’s job even after he had apologized?

“Why do you want to meet the owner? To complain about me?” His eyes sparkled with amusement, and I groaned. I noticed how he completely avoided answering me.

“No, sorry to bust your bubble, Killian. But the world doesn’t revolve around you.” I rolled my eyes at him, but he chuckled.

“Your world does. So, what are you here for?” He pulled a chair and sat down in front of me as if the office belonged to him.

“To beg Mr. Barlowe for a job here. What else?” I watched the surprised look on his face. Seriously? Was he expecting me to change my mind and agree to his offer?

“I see. What about my offer?” He watched me warily.

“It’s obvious I’m not interested. I have a degree in fashion design and dream to make it big someday. If you want a se* slave, look elsewhere.” I gave him a disgusted look, but he grinned instead. I was tired of his mood swings. They changed every second, it seemed.

“You have a degree in what? Do you think that’ll be of any use in a glamping site such as this remote one?” He chuckled, and it made my blood boil.

“Maybe not, but I can handle any job here. I’m not seeking a career push. It’s just for a month. Once I have some money, I’ll look for an appropriate job opportunity elsewhere.”

He rubbed his chin as he regarded me with a frown. “I see. So what can you do? Can you clean the tents? Can you cook up a storm in a matter of minutes or handle the accounts?”

My eyes widened as I realized I could do none of those. “No. I can only make basic meals to survive. That’s all.” Disappointment washed over me. I realized how worthless I was.

“Then? Can you organize trips for the guests?” He smirked knowingly.

“I don’t know the place well enough.” My confidence crumbled, and I gave him a defeated look.

“Can you manage the restaurant, or serve the guests?” I could see he was enjoying this.

“I can learn.” I looked away, feeling worthless.

“There’s no time to learn. You have one month to perform and earn. Right?”

I nodded.

He gave me a smug look. “So that leaves you with only one way to earn. My offer still stands, Princess.”

I glared at him. “I’ll discuss it with Mr. Barlowe. Maybe he can give me a better offer.” I rose to leave. There was no point arguing with the man. I would meet Mr. Barlowe when he returned.

“Are you giving up?” His chuckle mocked me.

“No, I’m not interested in arguing with you. I’ll come back later to meet Mr. Barlowe.”

He cocked an eyebrow with a smile on his lips. “See you later, princess.”

I walked out with his chuckle echoing after me.

Sydney I squinted at the sunlight streaming through the windows. Who had drawn back the curtains this early in the morning? Of course, I knew the answer. Who else but my boss, Killian Barlowe? I looked around and found myself in the middle of the bed, almost on his side. My cheeks flushed at the implication. Did I sleep all over him? I sucked in a deep breath, but it only made me realize his scent was all over me. Shit! That was such a pathetic thing to do. Did I drive him away from the bedroom? How would I face him now? I wished I didn’t have to. But he was my boss now, and I brought this added headache upon myself. My eyes widened, realizing my situation, and I sprang from the bed to check the time. It was eight o’clock, and I was late on my first day at work. Killian would be so mad at me. Did he leave already? I wouldn’t be surprised if he did. Why didn’t he wake me up before he left? Sydney“Mr. Barlowe? Are you Mr. Barlowe?” I whispered in a dazed state, while Killian glared at Pete.He turned to give me a look of hatred. “Yes. I’m Killian Barlowe, and this glamping site belongs to me.”Why did his surname sound so familiar? I had heard it somewhere before I met him. But I couldn’t recall where I had heard it.“Oh, then why did you appoint me as an assistant?” I didn’t even know my scope of work. “Who would I assist?”He gave me a look of disbelief. “Me. Who else?”Pete gaped at his boss. “Oh! I appointed her as my assistant. My mistake, sir. I misunderstood.” He stammered nervously while Killian gave him a death glare. He grabbed Pete by his collar and breathed fire on his face. “Stay away from my girlfriend. Or I’ll destroy your career. Is that clear, Hendricks?”I gaped at him, staggering backward at the mad fury on his face. At that point, Killian looked like an obsessed lover. But only I knew the truth. He didn’t love me. Then why did he introduce me as his

Sydney My body trembled with fury at his insult. I knew how hardworking I was. With a will to learn, I could do justice to any job assigned to me. Did he think his offer was the only option left for me to earn? I marched towards the tent when the staff member whom I had met earlier approached me. “Did you meet Mr. Barlowe, miss?” I shook my head. “No. He hasn’t returned yet.” He frowned as if I were crazy. “I saw him return ten minutes ago and go to his office.” I gaped at the man. “Oh, are you sure? I was there, but I didn’t meet him.”He shrugged and walked away. I wandered, considering my next move. Maybe I should talk to the manager of this site. I went back to the office only to see Killian yelling at someone! Was the man crazy? I had no wish to face him and left my phone number with the receptionist. “Please, can you fix an appointment with Mr. Barlowe immediately for me? Here’s my phone number. I’m staying in the tent H11.” “Sure, ma’am.” I left the place in a rush be
