Sebastian continued staring at Rosie in silence, watching her back as she walked away from the office.

He remained there long after she had disappeared from view, his gaze fixed blankly on the closed door until everything in front of him began to blur.

"Ugh. Don’t cry, you bloody loser," he muttered, rubbing furiously at the corners of his eyes before the tears could fall.

He lowered his head and stared at the lunch Rosie had prepared.

"She’s right..."

His voice came out quieter this time.

Rosie drove aimlessly through the city, fighting back the tears that had slipped down her cheeks after Desiree’s relentless questioning. She wanted to return to the apartment and hide.Even the thought of Charles was enough to send a fresh wave of anxiety through her. What if he found her? What if he dragged her back to that dreadful mansion, where she’d spent years being treated like a punching bag—something he could insult, belittle and laugh at whenever he pleased?Rosie shuddered. She drove straight past the apartment. She couldn’t bear the thought of being reminded of the Sterling family right now. Not when her emotions were already so raw.So she kept driving.Eventually, she spotted a familiar diner she hadn’t visited in years. She remembered coming here before she married Charles. It was cheap, unpretentious and hardly glamorous, but back then, that had been more than enough. Rosie had never had much money to spare. With nowhere else to go, she pulled into a parking space and

Colin Maxwell could think of no reason. In fact, what he had said was perfectly true. If he took the contract back to his office and showed it to his shareholders, they would probably be the ones pressuring him to sign it immediately. What made him hesitate was instinct. He was being driven entirely by a fear of the unknown—a nagging suspicion that Sebastian had some hidden agenda and that signing the agreement would somehow lead to his downfall.Sebastian seemed to realise there was little point in pressuring the old man any further. Instead, he dropped the bomb.“Well, Mr Maxwell, if you’re not interested in our cooperation, then I’d like you to hand that contract back to me.”“But I’m planning to take it to my office, Mr Edward Sterling.”“There’s no need. I don’t have time to wait for your confirmation.” Sebastian leaned back slightly, his expression calm. “You see, I have no real incentive to accept you as my supplier in the first place, Mr Maxwell. I agreed because of the sentim

Sebastian and Desiree entered the meeting room, where his prospective business partner was already waiting for them. The man was in his fifties, slightly overweight, with thinning hair and a thick moustache. Despite being nearly thirty years older than Sebastian—and possessing considerably more business experience—he looked far more nervous."Sorry to keep you waiting, Mr Maxwell. I didn’t realise you’d arrived so early for our meeting."Sebastian offered his hand.Colin Maxwell accepted it quickly before they took their seats opposite one another, ready to discuss what could become their first contract.Colin studied the imposing young man across the table.Sebastian looked calm and almost indifferent, which unsettled Colin more than hostility would have.He desperately needed this deal.Ever since Charles Sterling had cut his usual orders in half, Colin had been scrambling to find new clients. He had approached company after company, only to be turned away.Nobody wanted to risk off

But what am I supposed to do if she refuses to tell me? How can I fix something when I don’t even know what I've done?"Slowly, Sebastian placed a palm over his chest and clenched the fabric of his shirt as the familiar ache returned. He hated this feeling. It was the same heartache that had haunted him for years.Usually, whenever it struck—as it seemed to do almost weekly—he would drown it in alcohol before finding one of his girlfriends and losing him

  • Taming the Devil: After Divorce, Tangled Up in You   Chapter 160 : Almost painfully familiar.

Did he forget his own words? Rosie couldn’t help remembering the agreement she’d made with Sebastian when she'd first been hired as his maid.I have to pay ten times the amount if I use his credit card for anything other than groceries...Rosie lowered her head, unsure of what to say.Sebastian, meanwhile, was beginning to regret speaking without thinking. His irritation had flared the moment Rosie mentioned being frugal and worrying about spending too much on his black card. But the longer he thought about it, the more foolish his reaction seemed.Bloody hell...He immediately tried to backtrack. His voice softened as he spoke, careful not to frighten her. Given his temper and his intimidating presence, Sebastian knew he could unsettle people without even meaning to."What I mean is... I don't care how much you spend. I gave you the card, didn't I?"He hesitated before adding, almost awkwardly, "I know women can be rather materialistic and that money matters to them, so I won’t quest

  • Taming the Devil: After Divorce, Tangled Up in You   Chapter 159 : I’ve already got the surprise in mind, so you’d better prepare yourself for something nice this evening.

"I—" Sebastian paused, searching for a convincing lie—something that would satisfy Rosie without inviting any further questions. "I... I’m thinking about surprising you with something.""Me?"Rosie's doe eyes lit up instantly. She tried to suppress her excitement, but Sebastian saw it anyway. The small smile tugging at the corners of her lips gave her away."You shouldn’t do something like that for me," Rosie said, attempting to sound sensible. "It’s too much trouble, and you’re busy as well..."She was trying to refuse him, yet inwardly she felt as though she could leap out of her seat and dance around the room.It had been ten years since anyone had given her a proper surprise. For the past decade, the only surprises Charles had ever given her were the sort involving another woman—and whenever Rosie discovered him cheating, he had looked almost proud of himself.Sebastian saw the happiness spreading across Rosie’s face and decided to play along.Besides, the excuse happened to fit p

Rosie reacted at once, catching hold of her daughter’s arm and gently but firmly pulling her aside.“I’m so sorry, Sebastian,” she said quickly. “P–Please don’t be upset with Izzie. She’s only a child, I—”“Tch. It’s fine,” he cut in, dismissive. “Just make me the same smoothie. And from now on, yo

Rosie scarcely realised she had begun to run until the corridor stretched before her like something endless, her heels striking sharply against the marble as though urging her forward. Her fingers trembled as she dialled his number. He picked up almost immediately.“Yes?”“Where is my daughter?” Rosie demanded.A soft chuckle. “You mean our daughter?”Her jaw tightened. “Don’t play games with me, Charles.”“She’s fine,” he said casually. “We’re at the toy store. She’s picking wha

Rosie sat at the dining table, the candlelight flickering softly against untouched plates. The roasted chicken—Isabella’s favourite—had long since gone cold. She glanced at the clock.Nine o’clock.Charles Sterling was not home.He had promised. He had promised their daughter he would return before
