I make my way across the forests, using Merethyl’s knowledge of the elvish lands to find King Folwin’s elf lands. I stay high in the sky, looking out over the elf lands to see if anything stands out to me.

When nothing does, I glide over the top of the castle, shifting my scales to onyx to match the dark of night. I land on top of the castle and begin listening.

There aren’t a lot of voices in the castle at this time of night, but there are enough that it takes me a moment to find him.

“What do you think of our new chambers, Ember?”

I immediately shift into my human form, leaving my wings out as I quietly fly toward the top window where I heard Merellien’s voice.

I know Ember can hear me. Every dragon knows the sound of another dragon’s wings.

“I’d say it’s a chamber meant for a king, King Merellien,” she says, confirming the rumors that Keya heard.
