Chapter 4

Author: Bagel
Tears pricked my eyes.

Over the years, it wasn't that no one in the pack sympathized with what I was going through.

But sympathy was just sympathy. Against the absolute power of the Alpha King, no one dared to help me.

The fact that they took a risk to help me today was already a massive favor.

I spoke with a hoarse voice. "Thank you."

I went to the Elder Luna's study first and bowed deeply.

"Thank you for your mercy, Elder Luna."

The older woman sat behind her desk and sighed.

"You've taken great care of him these past few years. I know that."

"He has violent blood running through his veins. He's paranoid and crazy. You've suffered a lot staying by his side."

"You're a good girl. I know you've wanted to leave for a long time."

"Since that's the case, go."

"I already had someone print your release papers. Here's a sum of cash to help you get on your feet."

"Leave the territory. Go to a human city where no one knows you, and live a good life."

My eyes were red as I choked back a sob. I took the envelope that symbolized my freedom.

The Elder Luna turned her head. "Go quickly, before he gets back."

I thanked her repeatedly. I was just about to rush back to the master bedroom to pack my bags.

But Ruby was already waiting there.

She marched in like she owned the place. Two maids followed behind, helping her carry her things. She was holding a brand-new suitcase, her back perfectly straight. She acted like the new mistress of the house.

As soon as she stepped into the main building, she took on the attitude of someone in charge.

I stood in the hallway, watching her walk closer.

Ruby smiled triumphantly.

"The Elder Luna officially approved it. From today on, I'll be the one personally serving the Alpha King."

She paused deliberately. Her eyes scanned my face, like she wanted to see me break down and cry.

But I just looked at her quietly, not saying a word.

Her smile faded a little, and she scoffed.

"You don't have to pretend to be calm."

"The Alpha got tired of you a long time ago."

"You're just an Omega making the highest salary in the whole pack, yet you act so entitled. You really don't know how lucky you are."

"Hurry up and pack your garbage, and get out."

The tone she used didn't sound like a maid.

It sounded more like a new Luna taking charge, dismissing a fallen favorite.

But I wasn't angry at all. I was actually trying desperately to suppress my wild joy. She really took this job.

I never had to live in fear of testing his food again. I never had to worry about waking up one morning to find my internal organs turned to mush by Wolfsbane.

Seeing that I wasn't speaking, Ruby frowned.

"What's with that look? Are you still refusing to accept the truth?"

I said in a low voice, "No."

Ruby waved her hand bossily. "Then hurry up and clear out the room!"

My bedroom was right next to Xavier's.

When he couldn't sleep peacefully at night, he'd have someone call me over.

When he had to work, I had to stay with him.

When he lost control of his emotions in the middle of the night, I had to stand by his side and gently soothe him. I did this even though he could hurt me at any given moment.

I lived in that small room for years. I never had a single full night of peaceful sleep.

Now that Ruby was rushing to move in, it was exactly what I wanted.

I didn't argue. I turned to go pack my things.

But Ruby couldn't stand my obedience. She ordered the maids next to her, "Throw all her things out!"

I froze. Before I could react, she grabbed my wrist.

Her eyes locked onto the moonstone bracelet. "And this."

She yanked at it hard, and I instinctively pulled my hand back.

Xavier had put this bracelet on me himself. He warned me that unless he allowed it, I couldn't take it off even if I died.

Ruby smiled viciously. "What? You don't want to hand it over?"

"You're about to be kicked out of the pack, and you're still shamelessly wearing the Alpha's reward. Do you have no shame?"

She was strong. Her nails dug into my skin, and drops of blood welled up.

The moment the bracelet was torn from my wrist, I actually felt a wave of relief.

Ruby couldn't wait to slide the bracelet onto her own wrist.

She raised her hand and examined it under the hallway lights. Her face was full of raw greed and joy.

"It really is flawless."

She looked at me smugly. "Something like this belongs on the wrist of someone who deserves it."

All I wanted to do was hurry up and get my things back.

My luggage and backpack had been thrown onto the driveway outside.

The autumn wind blew, scattering my belongings all over the ground.

Ruby stood by the door, commanding me from above. "Alright, hurry up and get out of here with your garbage!"

I crouched on the ground, pressing down on my bleeding wrist as I stuffed my things into my backpack. I didn't feel a single ounce of humiliation.

Instead, I felt incredibly free.

The moment I walked out of the estate gates, I tilted my head up and looked at the sky.

It had been overcast all day, but a little light finally broke through.

I wanted to laugh out loud, and I also wanted to cry.

I was finally free.

Just then, the roar of helicopter propellers came from the distance. The guards at the gate instantly stood at attention, shouting into their walkie-talkies.

"The Alpha King is back early!"

"Prepare to welcome him!"

The last trace of color on his face drained completely.I continued, "Go back to your territory. Go back to being your high and mighty Alpha King.""I'm just an ordinary woman who wanted freedom. I just want to live a normal person's life."His Adam's apple rolled, but he couldn't say another word.I bent down and picked up the velvet box. "Take it."He didn't reach out to take it.So I let the box drop into the snow by his feet. Then, I resolutely closed the door and locked it.There was no sound outside the door for a long time.So long that I thought he had already given up and left. But after a long while, his hoarse voice finally came from outside the door."Elsie, this time, I'm truly letting you go."I closed my eyes. Tears fell silently. These tears weren't for him. They were for the girl who had been trapped in the Alpha estate for seven whole years. The sound of footsteps outside gradually faded away, finally disappearing into the wind and snow. When I opened the door again,

But he didn't force his way in. He just stood quietly outside the door, letting the freezing snow fall on his shoulders."I looked for you for a long time."My fingertips grew cold. "You promised you wouldn't force me back to the pack...""I know."He said in a low voice, "I'm not here to take you back."I didn't believe him at all. My body's defense mechanisms reacted faster than my brain.I slammed my hand forward to shut the door. But before the door could close, he suddenly started coughing violently. He coughed as if his lungs were tearing apart. When he covered his lips with a handkerchief, the black blood he coughed up faintly seeped through. My motion to close the door froze. He noticed my gaze and forced a bitter smile."It's nothing.""Just some internal injuries left over from before."I gripped the door tightly. My voice was as hard as ice."The Alpha King has a noble status. Since you're injured, you naturally have top-tier pack healers to care for you.""My place is too s

I thought I would never hear any news about that pack ever again in this lifetime. But one afternoon half a year later, Nora came in through the back door. She looked at me with a complicated expression."There's some huge news coming from North America."I was holding a steamer, organizing the clothes on the racks. Hearing this, my hands paused for a moment.Nora walked up to me and lowered her voice."I heard there was a massive purge in the Alpha King's territory."The sharp edge of a hanger accidentally cut my fingertip. A bead of blood instantly swelled up.I lowered my head, wiped it away with a tissue, and pretended that nothing happened."What happened?""That Rogue faction that kept trying to assassinate the King was completely wiped out.""This purge implicated countless undercover spies.""I heard the Wolfsbane incident in the kitchen was just the tip of the iceberg.""The car bombs, sniper assassinations, and illegal drug smuggling from the past few years were all done by t

  • Tasting Death for the Alpha King   Chapter 11

I originally thought that madman Xavier would change his mind and send people to hunt me down. One day, two days, three days passed. The bulletproof car sped south the whole way. There were no pursuers behind me, nor were there any spies belonging to the pack.I finally dared to believe that I had really escaped.A few days later, I arrived in a sunny human city by the coast. This place was thousands of miles away from the werewolf territories in North America. It was so far away that no one had ever heard of any Alpha King, and no one knew who Elsie was.I used the cash the Elder Luna gave me to rent a small house with a yard by the sea.The house wasn't big, but opening the window gave me a view of the blue ocean. The landlady was a very warm, plump woman.Seeing that I was all alone, she casually asked if I was here on vacation.I smiled and said I wanted a change of environment to start life over.I didn't pry any further. She just patted me cheerfully on the shoulder."A girl need

I looked up and stared at him. This Alpha King I had personally served for so many years. He used to pin me in the corner when he lost control during his rut. He'd use a hoarse, lust-filled voice to command me to never leave. But in the very next second, because of my instinctive trembling, he'd furiously release his Alpha aura and crush me against the floor. He'd drape his black cashmere coat over my shoulders in the winter. But in the very next second, just because I nodded in greeting to a young male servant, he'd banish that servant to the border to dispose of Rogue corpses.I had thought about it countless times. If he was just an absolute demon through and through, maybe I could hate him more purely. But he'd occasionally show a little bit of gentleness. That bit of gentleness was like honey smeared on the edge of a blade. As long as you dared to take a lick, your entire mouth would be cut bloody.I took a deep breath, met his crimson eyes, and spoke firmly, "Yes.""I want to lea

  • Tasting Death for the Alpha King   Chapter 9

My blood ran completely cold.He knew exactly how to trap me.Over the years, he had thoroughly figured out all my weaknesses.I could endure his rough treatment, and I could withstand his terrifying Alpha aura. But I absolutely couldn't watch others die because of me.Especially the head maid. She had risked her life to speak up for me today. If Xavier truly went crazy, he could send every servant in the estate to the fighting pits.I looked at him. My voice trembled."This has nothing to do with them."Xavier said lightly, "But you leaving makes me unhappy.""If I'm unhappy, someone else has to pay the price for you."Ruby was slumped in the spilled wine, sobbing so hard she could barely breathe."Elsie, I'm begging you!""Please don't go!""I don't want to test his food. I really don't want to die!"I looked down at her.She was finally regretting it.Not because she understood what I had been through all these years. But only because that suffering had now crashed down on her own h
