2. Don't Be Scared

~Third Person's POV~

Nobody thought Ashton's feelings would be as dark as the night. Even though the full moon was shining above his head, he couldn't enjoy even a bit of its pureness.

Evelyn was no different than him. Though waves of sadness weren't hitting her, still she was in deep thought about what she witnessed earlier.

She was busy looking at Ashton who was looking at the moon with no emotions on his face. His jaw was tight and his lips were in a straight line while his grey eyes were hard as stone.

For a moment, Evelyn noticed that his eyes were getting glassy but he was quick to hide his tears.

Seeing him broken gave a pang to Evelyn. Her smiley and calm best friend wasn't looking like himself. Except for despair and dejection, there was nothing on his face.

She extended her hand to touch his arm and the feeling of tingles and sparks erupted into her body and heart without even touching him.

Her cheeks started to burn with the crazy thoughts she started to have about her best friend and she looked away while chewing her lips.

She always liked him...

No...

She always loved him.

Ashton and Evelyn have been together since they were five. They went to the same school, stayed always together, and none of them ever let anyone come between them. Not on the bench, not in their friendship.

She always had a soft corner for him but never let her feelings come to the front as she didn't want to ruin her friendship. But today...

Today things are different.

She was attracted towards him and the worst part was, that her feelings were evident on her face.

She tried to shake off the feeling and took her attention back to him but before she could ask him anything, her phone rang and she saw Ashton's brother's name flashing on her screen.

She picked up the call and before Aiden could ask her anything, she said, "Don't worry, I found him. He will be home soon."

Aiden released a sigh of relief, "Is he alright? And what the heck he was thinking that he went out like this? He troubled everyone."

Ashton let out a weird laugh which Evelyn didn't find funny at all and she smacked his arm.

She again felt sparks flying through her palm and bit her lower lip which made Ashton's grey eyes dark.

Her heart started to race in her chest seeing how her little gesture affected Ashton and she quickly disconnected the call with Aiden telling him they would be back soon.

"Ash..." She whispered seeing him inching closer to her.

Ashton shut his eyes hard and said, "My whole life was a lie. I am not what I appear to be. I... I am... A werewolf."

Evelyn blinked her eyes a couple of times and tapped her ears to know if they were working right or not but Ashton shook his head and repeated his last sentence, "I am not lying or joking around, Bambi. I AM A WEREWOLF."

"Oh, Ash..."

Evelyn started to laugh but Ashton was in no mood to explain himself again so he closed his eyes and did what his wolf told him to do.

His claw started to appear in place of his hand which made Evelyn's eyes as wide as saucers and she started to move away from him in fear.

"Hey, hey, hey... Please don't be scared. I don't want to scare anyone... Especially you... Please, Bambi," Ashton pleaded while trying to inch closer to her.

His claws disappeared while he slowly moved toward Evelyn and he told Evelyn to breathe.

Evelyn was left shell-shocked. Out of everything in this world, she never thought her best friend would be a werewolf. She always wanted him to be wild when it came to adventure and parties but little did she know he would be wild in existence someday.

"I wanted you to be human wild in parties, not animal wild in existence," She said while placing her hand on her racing heart.

"I know... But this ain't my fault. I also found it tonight only..." Ashton said while releasing a heavy sigh.

Evelyn was loss of words at his statement. This wasn't usual as she always had something to say to him but today she couldn't think of anything to say to him.

She took her time to process what she heard and saw and then her eyes widened again, "Oh my goodness! That means I was in a house full of werewolves an hour ago! You all are-"

"No... I don't think we all are..." Ashton said while cutting her statement off.

"If they all were, I am sure they would have told me about this. You know we don't keep secrets from each other. Or I thought we don't," He bitterly laughed.

"What does that mean? Wait does that mean you..."

Evelyn asked with a heavy heart and crossed her fingers. She doesn't want this to be true.

Ashton nodded his head while swallowing the lump in his throat, "I think so... Now... I don't know who I am. Ashton... Ashton Warren... Ashton the werewolf... I don't know who I am. My whole life was a lie."

Evelyn shook her head and hugged him from the side. She smiled as the sparks erupted between them and cupped Ashton's cheeks, "No... I am not a lie. Our friendship is not a lie. I was there for you when you were a calm human and I will be there for you when you would be... Umm... Calm and wild wolf? Because I am damn sure you won't be leaving your soft side behind."

"I would never..." he said while placing his hand on her hand.

Their eyes locked with each other and while the tingles and sparks kept flowing between them, they both started to come closer.

Their lips were an inch apart when Ashton's eyes flashed and Evelyn took a step back in fear.

"Hey, don't be scared. He... He is... He is my wolf, Blaze. He is just excited to have you with him," Ashton tried to soothe her.

"Excited to have me with him? Why?" Evelyn asked in confusion.

Ashton smiled at her and started to caress her hands which made tingles erupt in their hands. He tangled his hands with her and with love flowing in his eyes, he said, "Do you feel the same? These tingles and sparks between us?"

The love that she saw pooling in Ashton's eyes made her heart skip a beat and she couldn't form a word.

She barely nodded her head which made Ashton laugh, "I don't know what it is and how it works, but one thing is for sure, it gave me what I wanted. Blaze, my wolf says we are mates. Kind of the same as soul mates. Every wolf has one. And you are ours."

"You got what you wanted? You wanted me?" Evelyn asked not believing Ashton's words.

"Always..." he smiled.

For the first time in hours, Ashton released a sigh of relief after seeing a big beautiful smile on his mate's face. Her brown eyes were shining under the moonlight and her dimpled smile was making her look like an angel.

He kissed her forehead making shivers run through her body and touched his forehead with hers, "We should leave now... I need to get a lot of answers and I won't get them sitting here."

"Then... At my place tomorrow?" Evelyn asked with a shy smile on her face.

"Done, Bambi," He smiled back.

"Baby, I don't get what are you saying. You are our son."

Sussane tried to reason with Ashton for the third time but her racing heartbeats and sweat on her forehead didn't go unnoticed by him.

Ashton planned to talk about this on some other day as he didn't want to ruin his family's mood but ever since he came back home, constant questions from his family members made him spill the truth.

"Mom... You don't have to lie. I am not even mad at you because you always loved me. You always took care of me the same way you took care of Aiden. You never compared or did any sort of wrong with me. It's just... I need to know who my real parents are or how I got into this family in the first place. I need to know who I am before... Before I make any damage..."

Ashton was confident with every word that came out of his mouth but the moment he remembered that he was not a human but a wolf, his tone, posture, expressions... Everything changed.

Though his voice died down in the last, his brother, Aiden heard what he said and asked what he meant.

"Nothing... I just want to know how you guys found me," Ashton brushed his question off.

"You know what, only Evelyn can bring your senses back into you so let me call her," Sussane said and went to grab her phone from the table.

"She knows, Mom. And she knows why am I asking you this," Ashton said in a firm voice.

The human in Ashton was feeling bad for asking such questions to his family and upsetting them on his birthday but the wolf in Ashton was getting angrier.

He knew where he belonged and what he was. For sure he was supposed to be the alpha of some pack but just because Ashton knows nothing about his blood family, he could not be who he was. Which simply meant, he could not roam around as he liked, he could not boss around the way he should and he could not be himself. The human community would not accept it at all.

"Ashton... We are not lying. We are your parents." Richard sternly said while looking into Ashton's eyes which angered Blaze.

Despite Ashton's best efforts to control his wolf, Blaze took over him and growled in a low yet dangerous voice, "I know the truth. Ashton is not what he looks like or you think who he is. We are more than you think we are."

His claws started to appear and his eyes turned pitch black which scared the shit out of everyone.

Ashton yelled at Blaze in his mind and took back control over his body. He opened his eyes only to see the horrifying faces of his family members and cursed his wolf for putting them through this.

"Mom, Dad, Aiden... I am sorry, you guys weren't supposed to know about it this way."

"Who-who was that?" His mom stuttered.

He took a step in her direction which made her step back in fear and others shielded her.

Seeing his father and brother trying to protect his mother from him broke his heart. He never imagined things would take such an ugly turn.

"I am not going to hurt you all. I don't even know who the fuck I am! I just found out a few hours ago that... That I am a werewolf," He said with pain evident in his voice and face.

"A werewolf...?" They all said in unison.

He nodded his head while falling onto the couch with his shoulder slumped down and head hung in shame.

Seeing him in anguish broke his mother's heart and she slowly approached him. She sat beside him and hugged him which he accepted wholeheartedly.

"We were on a vacation in California at that time. We were heading back to our hotel when we heard a baby crying under the bushes. I don't know what it was but the moment my eyes fell on you, I fell in love with you," Sussane admitted while Ashton stared at her.

"We did our best to find your parents. Even took the help of cops but it was of no use. And since we were already in love with you, we decided that you were born only for us," Richard said while taking his seat beside him.

"Blood or not... We are Warren brothers and no one can change this," Aiden smiled.

"So... My reality doesn't bother you? Keeping a werewolf in your house doesn't bother you at all?" Ashton asked.

They all looked at each other and smiled, "Not at all."
