Gia froze against the mahogany bookshelf, the sharp edge of the wood digging into her shoulder blades. She could hear the rapid, frantic thump of her own heart echoing in her ears.

Leo didn't move an inch. He remained towering over her, the weight of the Vance Foundation folder resting heavily in his left hand while his right thumb remained pinned to her lower lip. The contrast between his cool skin and the sudden, burning heat radiating from his chest was dizzying.

"Take your hand off me," she whispered, her voice tighter than she wanted. She tried to pull her head back, but his grip on her jaw merely tightened, his fingers firm and unyielding.

"You didn’t answer my question," Leo murmured, his voice a low, gravelly vibration. He leaned down further, forcing her to look directly into the amber flecks of his eyes. "Are you going to ignore me at the party tonight, Gia?"

"You're leveraging my entire future for some twisted game," she hissed, her eyes flashing with a mix of fury and raw panic. "If Chloe knew you were using your position to threaten her best friend—"

"Chloe doesn’t meddle in foundation business," Leo cut her off smoothly. He slowly pulled his hand away from her face, but he didn't step back. Instead, he tapped the blank signature line on her scholarship form with his index finger. "And this isn't a threat. It’s an evaluation. The board expects me to ensure our top recipient is compliant with the university's standards. I'm just checking your compliance."

The sheer arrogance of his words made her stomach twist. He was completely untouchable, and he knew it. He could ruin her life with a single stroke of a pen, all while maintaining his perfect, polished reputation.

"I have a perfect GPA," Gia said, forcing her voice to stabilize. "My compliance is in my grades. Now let me out."

Leo studied her face for a long, silent moment, his gaze dropping to her mouth before rising back to her eyes. A slow, infuriating smirk touched the corner of his lips. He closed the folder with a sharp snap, stepping back just enough to allow her a sliver of space.

"We'll see about that," he said, adjusting his posture with a casual grace. "The Alpha Chi house. Nine o'clock. Don't be late, little girl."

Without waiting for her reply, he turned on his heel and walked out of the library, leaving the heavy oak doors swinging in his wake. Gia slumped against the bookshelf, her knees trembling so badly she had to grip the ledge to keep from falling. She looked down at the reference book in her hands, her vision blurring with a mixture of anger and a terrifying, unwanted surge of adrenaline.

He hadn't just crossed a line. He had rewritten the rules of her entire existence.

By the time the clock struck eight that evening, the penthouse was filled with the frantic energy of Chloe getting ready.

"Gia, seriously, you cannot wear that old gray sweater," Chloe insisted, tossing a piece of black silk onto the guest bed. She was already dressed in a vibrant red dress, her hair curled to perfection. "It’s a weekend party, not a study group. Wear this. I bought it last month and never wore it."

Gia picked up the garment. It was a cropped, off-the-shoulder silk top with a deep sweetheart neckline, paired with tight, high-waisted black jeans. It was entirely out of her comfort zone, designed to turn heads and draw attention.

Exactly the kind of attention she was terrified of attracting tonight.

"I don't think this is me, Chloe," Gia muttered, holding it up against her chest.

"Nonsense. You have a gorgeous collarbone, stop hiding it," Chloe said, grabbing her clutch from the vanity. "I'm going to head down to the garage to check on the driver. Change quickly and meet me downstairs!"

Once Chloe left the room, Gia stood in front of the full-length mirror, staring at her reflection. She changed into the outfit, her skin feeling exposed under the cool air of the room. The silk clung to her curves, and the off-the-shoulder cut emphasized the pale line of her neck. She looked completely different. She looked like someone who belonged in Leo's world.

She took a deep breath, grabbing her phone, her mind racing with Leo's warning. Nine o'clock. Don't be late.

When she reached the lower level garage, Chloe was already waiting inside the luxury SUV. But as Gia opened the back door, her breath caught in her throat.

Leo was sitting in the front passenger seat.

He was dressed in a dark slate-grey button-down with the top buttons undone, his jawline sharp against the dim lighting of the garage. He didn't turn around when she got in, but as the driver started the engine, Gia caught his reflection in the rearview mirror.

His eyes were locked onto hers through the glass, heavy, dark, and utterly possessive.

"Oh, good, you wore it!" Chloe beamed, completely oblivious to the silent current electricity passing through the vehicle. "Doesn't she look amazing, Leo?"

Leo paused, his gaze lingering on the exposed skin of Gia's shoulders in the reflection before he spoke.

"Remarkable," Leo murmured, his gravelly voice sending a violent shiver straight down Gia’s spine. "Let's see if she can handle the heat."

Outside the glass panes, a raw spring drizzle was turning the gravel paths to thick mud.
