Chapter 4

Author: Hammer Titan
Sabrina left in a rage, Mom's loud shouts disappearing with her.

As the car drove right past me, I caught sight of Joshua's smug face.

He thought that he'd won. After all, everyone had turned against me, and I was now as pitiful and weak as a bug. Yet, I didn't care.

I didn't care for my parents, Sabrina, or Tiana. I didn't want any of them anymore.

Since Joshua wanted them so much, I would just give them all to him.

That was what I thought.

However, probably because I was in such a bad situation, I just couldn't stop myself from thinking about the terrible things that had happened to me in the past. Those tiresome memories that I'd tried so hard to get rid of just kept flooding my mind.

I angrily kicked the snow away from my feet as I marched forward, trying my best not to cry despite my tingling nose.

I kept on walking in the thick snow until both my legs were frozen numb and I was finally able to stop thinking about my terrible past.

At last, I found shelter from the snow and even managed to hail a cab on the way. However, just as the cab slowed to a stop, the wheels suddenly lost their grip on the road and skidded toward me, knocking me off the path.

The cab didn't hit me too hard, but I was knocked flat on my face in the snow. I'd been walking so long in the freezing snow that a bout of hypothermia hit me, and I ended up blacking out on the ground.

When I gained consciousness again, my entire body ached as if I'd just been run over by a truck.

My head felt heavy, and my eyelids were like lead. I felt my body burning all over, and my throat also felt like it'd been sliced open.

I fought to open my eyes. Then, I caught sight of a beautiful young woman sitting next to the bed with bright, lively eyes.

My voice was hoarse as I asked, "Where am I?"

The young woman was overjoyed when she heard me speak. "You woke up! That's such wonderful news! This is the hospital, by the way. You've been having a high fever, and you've been out cold for two days."

She leaned so close to me that I could feel her breath against my face. It was hot and a little ticklish.

It had been a long time ever since I'd been in such close proximity with someone of the opposite gender, and I couldn't help scrunching up my face.

She immediately straightened up, her ears turning slightly red, as she began filling me in on the details of what had happened.

She introduced herself as Bianca Kidston. She was looking to make some quick money to help pay for her dad's treatment by working as a cab driver when she wasn't at work in the office.

She swore that she'd been driving very carefully and hadn't thought that her car would still end up skidding and losing control.

Luckily, I hadn't suffered any serious injuries and had escaped with just a sprained wrist.

Other than that, the doctor said that I was severely anemic and had dangerously low blood sugar. Also, since my high fever wouldn't go away, the doctor had started to worry that I might've caught pneumonia, so Bianca had decided to stay and take care of me.

I looked at Bianca. Her long hair cascaded down her shoulders in huge curls. She had just a touch of makeup on her face, and her huge, dewy eyes were pure and innocent, as if she hadn't been polluted by the evils of the world just yet.

I glanced at her coat. I couldn't tell which brand it was from, but the expensive-looking fabric and neat stitching told me that she couldn't lie to save her life.

But I didn't expose her bluff. On the contrary, I was grateful for her companionship at this time.

I said, "Thank you. But you know, you don't really have to stay with me here like this. You could've just told the insurance company to send their agent over."

Bianca was honest with me. "I thought of that at first, but the police and nurses couldn't get a hold of your family members, so I had no choice but to come along with them."

So, that was the case.

I'd bet that everyone else must still have been worried sick over Joshua and Andy, with no time to spare for me.

Just then, my phone suddenly rang loudly.

Bianca showed me the screen, which showed that "Wifey" was calling me.

Bianca was quite shocked. After all, it turned out that I had a wife—and to think that I'd never even bothered calling her after having been hospitalized for two days. That had to be completely unheard of.

I wanted to tell Bianca to reject the call, but she'd already answered it on my behalf before I could stop her. She even turned on the loudspeaker for me for convenience's sake.

Sabrina's voice then came from the phone. "Ashton Jenkins! Where the fuck have you been these past two days?"

I rolled my eyes, not wanting to waste my breath on a dumb woman like her.

Sabrina's voice turned cold. "I don't care where you are right now—you'd better come over and apologize to Joshua and Andy this instant!

"Don't you know that the doctors said Andy faints easily when he gets triggered because of all the trauma he went through last time? You ruined Joshua and traumatized his son! Don't you feel ashamed of yourself?"

I frowned in disgust. But before I could say a word, Sabrina continued, "Mom and Dad are also here. They said that they'll forgive you if you get down on your knees and ask for Joshua's forgiveness.

"Hasn't it always been your wish to reconcile with your parents? This is a golden opportunity for you. You're going to regret it if you don't come over right now."

I chuckled coldly. Just as I was about to speak, Bianca beat me to it.

"He can't make it because he's dead. His body is at the morgue right now. Why don't you try looking for him there? You might not even see his ashes if you wait any longer."

Although the post never explicitly mentioned names, surprisingly, plenty of my ex-schoolmates left tons of comments under it.It was just a matter of time before Joshua's misdeeds were exposed in the open for all to see and judge. That wasn't all. Sabrina, Mom, and Dad were all dragged into the mud along with him. Over the next few days, my phone seemed like it would explode from the sheer number of calls I received on a daily basis.I stared at the culprit, who was now standing before me. I said helplessly, "You little minx, who told you to poke your nose into this?"Bianca just grinned happily as she served me a perfect cut of steak. "Don't get mad, mister. I know you're not the kind of person who shows his scars just to make others feel guilty, but why should you stay silent when you're the victim? "If they don't even know the extent of hurt they've caused you, they would probably just think of it as a tiny inconvenience. "That's nowhere near enough to make up for all the su

When Joshua heard that I had a gift prepared for him, his eyes grew alert as he became completely on guard.I guess he still had some sort of self-awareness after all. He knew how much I loathed him, so it wouldn't make any sense for me to prepare a gift for him in the first place. But before he could reject me, a young lady in a short pixie cut walked out among the crowd of onlookers who'd stopped to watch us.Joshua's face went pale as soon as he caught sight of the woman. He blurted, "Dolly Brown!"Dolly puffed out some cigarette smoke, giving Joshua the once-over a few times."It's been a long while, ex-boyfriend. It seems like you've been living quite the life. By the way, you told me that you'd marry me as soon as you'd gotten your hands on the Jenkins family's fortune. Does that promise still count?"Dad's eyes widened in shock as he looked at Joshua in disbelief.Joshua hurriedly shook his head. "Mom, Dad, don't listen to her! Have you already forgotten? It was her! She'

Three months ago, one of the thugs involved in beating Joshua up had just been released from prison.I'd met up with him on the very day he'd gotten out.I recalled Joshua had told me back then that he'd had a friend waiting for him at the shortcut. I guessed that if that "friend" really existed, then he would be the only person in the world who could prove my innocence.I'd gone through all of the people in Joshua's circle of friends, but I'd found nothing. That was how I'd come to the conclusion that the "friend" he'd mentioned might've been one of the thugs involved. As it turned out, I didn't end up just learning about the so-called friend's name—I even learned the entire story behind the deliberate cover-up.I was going to reveal the truth the next day and destroy Joshua with one lethal blow.In a way, I would also be giving Sabrina a very memorable divorce. After making all the necessary arrangements, I drowsily went back to sleep. In my dreams, I felt as though someone k

I had to admit that Bianca was way better than Sabrina at seeing through liars from the start.I took the second apple she peeled for me and chuckled mockingly. "Oh, maybe his depression got triggered or something."I paused for a bit and made sure to emphasize the next few words. "Severe depression, I believe."Bianca giggled. "That's not severe depression. That's schizophrenia. I strongly suggest that he be taken to the psychiatric ward so he'll recover faster."I burst out laughing at that. Meanwhile, Sabrina just stared at me in disbelief. She'd never thought that I would be as cold-hearted as this and make fun of Joshua, who was ill, along with another stranger. However, what shook her the most was that while I behaved like an emotionless robot when with her, I could be so expressive and laugh along with another woman.A spark of jealousy rose in her chest. She yelled, "That's enough, Ashton Jenkins! How did you change into someone like this? No wonder your parents are dis

Sabrina frowned when she heard me referring to her as my ex-wife.I thought that she would yell at me and accuse me of losing my temper and playing hard-to-get again, like she did in the past. But to my surprise, she just sighed and held my hand as she said, "Are you still mad at me? Honey, I admit that I ignored you in the past, but I'll pay more attention to you now, alright? Can you stop being angry at me? Where do you think you can go after separating from me?"I had no idea why Sabrina was suddenly acting like a whole different person, but when she said the last sentence, I immediately felt indignant."The world is wide and vast. Why would you think that I have no place to go?"Sabrina replied, "You know that's not what I meant."I was so frustrated that I didn't even want to talk anymore.I'd bet Sabrina just didn't want to give me half of her assets. Otherwise, I simply couldn't think of any reason why she wouldn't want to divorce me.I caught sight of Joshua still linge

Bianca's words were so shocking that I nearly jumped up from the bed.Meanwhile, Sabrina's voice turned shrill on the other end of the line. "What did you say? Who are you?"However, Bianca had already hung up on her. She even turned the phone off afterward. When she saw me glaring at her, she grinned meekly and said, "I didn't mean to say that you were dead. I just thought that your wife was being ridiculous."Her own husband is lying in the hospital, and yet, she didn't even ask about you or how you're doing. Honestly speaking… you've got quite terrible taste in women."I just smiled a little helplessly and bitterly, mumbling, "Not just my wife. I'm terrible at picking my parents and my close buddies too."Even the daughter I had turned out to be the wrong choice. My stomach suddenly growled loudly. Looking sheepish, I asked, "Sorry, but could you get me something to eat?"I hadn't eaten anything since that night, and I was feeling ravenous.Bianca immediately took out her p
