Author POV

The door to the hospital closed shut roughly behind her.

Liana’s bag wiggled at her side as she tried to steady her footsteps. They looked jittery. I felt worse. Low curses slipped out of her lips like she was chewing on them, swallowing each one before it could be heard.

She searched aimlessly for a taxi. The evening air in LA was still warm, but it did nothing to calm the shake in her hands. Her heel tapped constantly against the graveled floor of the hospital driveway. Buses, nur

Kayla Two weeks laterWould you still want to tangle with the guy who saved you through all those messes you've been through without having a single grudge against you? rainy nights and sunny days,he'd come by,grinning at me like i'm the only thing that mattered in the world.i try to tell myself it's just a passing phase,i'm probably obsessed with him because i see a part of him. "You've been staring at that gap for more than an hour, miss Kayla".ahh.Riley.my hands reached for the fountain pen next to me. "How's Liam?" She chuckled, tapping my table concurrently. "you would have known if you heard me talking""I was listening to you.""You don't know how Liam is faring" She rolled her eyes."You've been good. Right?". Her gaze softened. that gaze that made me want to curl at the far end of my bed. Maybe cry my eyes out.I sniffed before realising. "it's fine. I can talk about him now.""Him?"yes. Him.I o

Author POVThe door to the hospital closed shut roughly behind her. Buses, nurses, families — everyone moving with purpose while she stood there like the ground had tilted. Her hands found their way to her bag. She dug through it, fingers clumsy, until she found her phone. She pulled it out and dialed a number. The other line went through almost immediately.“You dare not try me, you daughter of a bitch.” Liana’s voice cut through the air, sharp and loud, even with the busy pedestrian walkway behind her.The voice on the other end was calm. Too calm. “You’re supposed t

Author POVThe hospital bed made a cringe noise, Jaden flinched slightly.“What.. what the fuck do you want to do, Liana?" His voice cracked, raspy and worn out. He quickly held his rib that ached badly." What do you mean by that?. Why the hell would I get my ass here for?” She scoffed, still in the act of tugging down his patient robe. The cold hospital air hit his bulge immediately and it sprang free.“Lia.. Liana I am your sister's.." “Exhusband." She cut him off. “You are my sister's ex-husband and I get to do whatever I want to do with your dick whenever I want it." Her words dragged out of her lips with so much confidence." We shouldn't be doing this anymore, Liana,” she chuckled slowly, when she heard Jaden's voice." We shouldn't,but we would. And you can't stop me either.”Her fingers traced the skin of his manhood, stopping short at every veiny part she felt." Ah.. good thing we didn't get to destroy this one.” The sound of her slippers hitting the tiled floor filled the q

Author POV The bed creaked as Kayla turned over, restless. But sleep just wouldn’t come. She kept thinking about Ryder. About the promise she’d made to him. About the compass chain at the parlor's table…useless now, but she still couldn’t bring herself to stop thinking about it. Finally, she threw off the duvet and slipped on her slippers. The light clicked on. It was way past her bedtime, but her eyes weren’t even close to sleepy. She drifted to the parlour. The chain was still on the table. After the kiss. She didn’t know what that kiss meant. But it lingered. She didn’t want it to end. She was losing herself… against her will… to a guy who teased her every single day for no reason. To someone who stayed by her side no matter how badly she pushed him away. Memories flashed before her eyes. Him by the river. Wet hair. Flushed cheeks from the cold water. That cute smile that made her ten-year-old heart beat faster than a moving train. She should have w

Author POV Five hours later. The heavy oak door to the Brooks family home swung open. Ryder stepped inside. He kicked off his shoes at the door and dropped onto the couch like his legs could no longer hold him. His suit jacket was gone. His tie was loose. His hair was a mess from running his hands through it all day.“God…” he sighed. The word came out broken. His mind wouldn’t shut up. It hadn’t for hours. He kept replaying it. Her face when she realized. The compass in her palm. The way she said, *“I’ve been waiting for you.”*All this while, he had chased after Kayla and never understood why. Why his chest pulled toward her every time she was near. Why he couldn’t sleep if he didn’t know she was safe. Why one look from her could undo him.Now he knew.He loved her from the very first moment he saw her at that charity event Jaden dragged her to. He loved her even when he found out she was his best friend’s wife. He loved her even when she looked him in the eye and sai

KaylaPRESENT The compass chain felt hot in my palm. Like it was burning through my skin.“What??” The word left me broken. Almost airless. I stared at the guy who I've always nagged insulted and called names but he still wasn't ready to let me be.The room tilted so fast that I sat down heavily on the close chair I could lean on.Ryder crouched in front of me. His knees on my rug. His hands didn’t touch me yet. Like he was afraid I’d shatter if he did.“I gave that neckchain to you that day,” he said again. His voice was low and rough. He was also finding it hard to believe “ Fourteen years ago. At Victoria beach. London. You saved me.”Memories slammed into me.A crowded charity event. I wasn’t supposed to be at the back beach. I’d run there to cry after my mother’s funeral three days earlier. The sound of music felt wrong when she was in the ground. Then I heard splashing. Gasping. A boy. A few years older than me. Dark hair plastered to his forehead. He was thrashing in the wate

Kayla I told myself it was just a kiss,it doesn't mean anything, after all we've had nights with ecstasies that drove one to cloud nine. Lies. All night I kept replaying it. I couldn't take my mind off the picture. Ryder’s hand on my jaw. His thumb on my cheek. The way he said “best

Author POV Silence. Just the waves. Just the wind. Kayla stared at Jaden’s body crumpled in the sand. Then at Ryder. His knuckles were split open. Blood dripped onto the blue blanket. His chest rose and fell like he’d run a mile. “Ryder…” Her voice was small. He blinked. Like he was comi
