Chapter 4

Author: Flowing Ink
Three days later, Ethan held a grand medical miracle press conference at the hospital.

Under the flashing lights, Ethan wore a suit and held Rosalie, who had perfect makeup. They looked like a flawless pair.

The banner on the stage read: The Triumph of Love and Science – The Awakening of a Coma Patient.

I stood in the corner and watched them receive cheers and admiration from the crowd.

Ethan held the microphone, looking humble while his eyes revealed pride.

“There was no miracle. I used the latest stimulation therapy. The results proved that only treatment that reached the deepest parts of the mind could awaken a dormant consciousness.”

Rosalie looked at him with affection and took the microphone. Her voice trembled.

“Although I could not move during these three years, I could feel everything. My husband only stayed by my bedside and filled the room with negative energy. It was Dr. Joeman who gave me physical therapy day and night and reignited my hope for life.”

The audience erupted into applause.

Ethan suddenly spotted me. His sharp eyes lit up.

“It just so happens that my former patient’s family member, Mr. Leo Leighton, is here. Please come up.”

The spotlight landed on me.

I did not hesitate. I walked onto the stage and faced the mocking gazes.

Ethan patted my shoulder and spoke to the cameras.

“Everyone, this is the negative example. He was incompetent, which caused the patient to remain in a coma for three years. He did put in physical effort, so we invited him today to show that blind waiting does nothing. Only science and passion can create miracles.”

Rosalie shrank into Ethan’s arms with disgust.

“Leo, hurry up and thank Dr. Joeman. Then get off the stage.”

The audience roared with laughter. Cameras zoomed in on my face, waiting to see me embarrass myself.

I let out a short laugh. “No need for that.”

I pulled a report from my pocket and took the microphone from Ethan.

“Since this is a press conference, we should not hear only one side. I have a pathology report here. I would like all the media and Dr. Joeman to take a look.”

Ethan’s expression shifted. He reached for the report, but I had already plugged a USB drive into the projector.

The screen lit up with a blood analysis report.

The entire hall fell silent.

“Dr. Joeman, you are too humble. This is not only a medical miracle. It is a biological miracle.”

Ethan’s pupils tightened. He froze.

Rosalie, confused and thinking I was bluffing, pointed at me and shouted,

“Leo, you are crazy. Who are you trying to scare with this nonsense?”

“It is fine if you do not understand. I will explain.” I pointed at the highlighted section.

“Congratulations to Dr. Joeman. His intensive treatment not only awakened her but also activated something that had been dormant in her body for three years.”

The audience erupted into chaos.

Rosalie’s face turned pale. Her lips trembled.

“You… You are lying. My skin is just a little rosy…”

“Rosy?” I cut her off with a cold smile and pointed at the index on the report.

“You are not recovering. This is a last burst of clarity before the condition reaches your brainstem.”

I turned to Ethan, who was scratching the back of his hand. My voice was calm.

“To put it simply, there is no cure. You continued your treatment even while injured. So congratulations. You have been affected too.”

I took out a bottle of strong disinfectant that I had prepared earlier and tossed it in front of the mess on the ground.“Considering we were once married, this is my final mercy. Use it if it is not too late.”I did not look at her again. I turned and walked away from that foul scene.Rosalie’s desperate scream echoed behind me, followed by the sound of the bottle rolling across the pavement.Hell was empty, yet demons walked the earth. The earth would soon be clean.Three days later, Leighton Group held a sudden press conference and announced the full acquisition of the notorious City Duo Hospital. The attention was not on anyone else this time. It was on me, standing before the cameras with calm confidence.I faced the microphones and spoke without emotion.“Regarding the plan after the acquisition, I have only one request. Demolish the intensive care unit building and build a free public restroom on that site.”The audience erupted in shock.“Too many dirty things happened

Once the super syphilis crossed the blood-brain barrier, Rosalie went completely insane.Ethan, the weakling, died first. It was said that it was because his lower body was completely rotten, causing him unbearable pain, and he could not stand the netizen's abuse. He cut his carotid artery with a piece of broken glass in the basement, where he hid. When he died, his body had been soaking in moldy bedding for two days. It was said that even the forensic doctor could not help but vomit when they went to collect the body. When I heard the news, I did not feel anything. I just asked Felix Frederick to drive the car to the garbage disposal plant near the west of the city.It was said that Rosalie wandered around this area. The air was filled with a rotten stench. I found her under a bridge filled with old cardboard boxes. The scene before me was so absurd that it was chilling.Rosalie was draped in several tattered, filthy rags. Facing a swarm of buzzing flies, she struck stiff, conto

The chaos outside did not stop because of my indifference. It escalated into a disgusting fight between two desperate people.Begging had failed. The pain and fear of death shattered the last bit of sanity they had.In the surveillance footage, Rosalie suddenly snapped. She lunged at Ethan and clawed at his damaged cheek.“It is your fault. It is all your fault.”She screamed at the onlookers and at the media camera that had just arrived.“I am the victim. Ethan forced himself on me. I could not move for three years. He used his position as a doctor to inject me with that drug and take advantage of me. I never loved him. I was forced. Leo, did you hear that? My heart belongs to you. Come out and save me. Help me sue him.”She threw away her so‑called prince charming without hesitation, hoping to clear her name.Ethan cried out in pain and kicked her away.“That is nonsense. You liar.”He forgot about his image and glared at the camera.“Do not believe her. She seduced me. Even wh

After I left the hospital, I went straight back to the upscale apartment in the south of the city.Rosalie always believed I had sold the house to treat her illness when I had only transferred it to a shell company under my father’s name and hid it there. After all, feeding wolves once was enough. The spacious living room glowed under the warm crystal chandelier.“Mr. Leighton, is the pressure all right?” Elise knelt on the thick carpet, her body positioned between my legs as she massaged them. She had been fired by the snobs at the hospital for testifying for me at the press conference. She had nowhere to go, so I brought her here. She wore a maid outfit that she had clearly prepared with care. The short skirt barely covered her upper legs, and her fair skin showed as she worked. She lifted her head. Her innocent face held admiration and gratitude, and her eyes were moist.“Thank you for taking me in. I am yours from now on. I will be obedient, even if it means giving everythin

Less than two days after the press conference, the condition began to show its true nature. The frightening part of this mutated strain lay in its rapid rate of deterioration.Rosalie’s once proud face changed at a speed visible to the naked eye. Her fair, smooth skin developed red rashes, followed by clusters of small yellow bumps. Some of them broke open and released a foul smell. The car model who once drew the attention of countless men now looked like a stranger who had crawled out of a trash heap.Ethan’s situation was even worse. His report showed that due to frequent and close contact, the viral load in his body was far higher than normal. His face was covered with round red patches, and his lower body began to show signs of severe irritation and pain. He cried out on the hospital bed.I cut off the last remaining balance in the hospital account and informed the hospital that I would not pay any further fees. The scandal had damaged the hospital’s reputation. The unpaid bi

There was a commotion in the audience, and the flashlights flickered wildly.Ethan reacted like a mad dog whose tail had been stepped on. He instantly lost all his elegance. He roared and lunged at me, raising his fist.“Fake! It is all fake! You peasant, how dare you forge medical records to extort money?”I stepped aside and avoided his attack. He missed and stumbled into the podium. The sudden movement caused his sleeves to slide up, revealing the backs of his hands and wrists. The reporters in the front row screamed. “Look at that!”Ethan’s once fair hands were covered with red patches that looked alarming under the spotlight.I straightened my collar and said, “Dr. Joeman, even your symptoms appeared faster than normal.”Ethan tried to hide his hands with his sleeves. His voice shook. “This is an allergy. I am a doctor. I have the final say.”“You made that up!” Rosalie screamed as she rushed forward and pushed me aside. Her protectiveness was almost touching.“Leo, you a
