Chapter 6 - She had just revealed it

Zack

I watched as the round clock bell ticked so loudly. It was just 10:58pm; two minutes before the time Zara had given me to meet her at the gate. There was something in the look of her eyes that told me she wasn’t lying but telling the truth but I couldn’t just bring myself to believe her. She was someone I had married just six days and was just too hard headed.

Not to talk of my younger sister Fernánda who I have known all my life. I was going to find out what was going on tonight. I grin at the time once again. It was 10:59pm and I quietly opened the door with my two trusted guards at my back. We head for the palace gate taking the back of the palace. I had given necessary directions that the gate should be locked.

I sight Zara. She nods at me from her hideout point which was beside a large tree.  I also position myself by a statue looking at wristwatch. It was 11:00pm and there was no sign of movement. I scanned through all possible entrances but sighted no one.

Just as I was about to come out, I sighted a bulky guard. It’s dark and this restrains my sight. Though his physique looks familiar to one of the guards of my dad’s chamber. I’m quick to sight someone at the front in a hoodie. A very long cloak that’s black. It looks like Fernanda’s outfit but I couldn’t be so sure until I found out. I signal to the two guards to step out of their hiding place and we quietly scanned the area and walked to the gate’s entrance.

“Stop” I say to the guard and what looked like my sister. They immediately halt their movement as the guards hold their guns to the two figures head.

“Turn around”, I say as Zara also meets up with us coming from the back. She is on a red cloak that covers her whole body.

The female in the cloaks turns around and takes off her cloaks head cover. It reveals Fernanda as the guard takes off his own cloak revealing Alejandro, the head guard of the king’s chambers. I stare in the sight of them. Fernanda was carrying a travelling bag, same as her supposed lover.

“What are you up to, Fer?” I ask desperately.

“You caught me, Zack so I’d give you a choice, let me go or I tell mum and dad about you and Zara not fulfilling your bedded rights”, she says hurriedly without any remorse as the head guard bows down in shame. I wondered what had come over my sister. This was not the girl I had grown up with. The girl I had cradled and rocked in my arms. Not the innocent child but a daredevil.

“I won’t”, I say as I direct the guards to seize her and the head guard. Two could play at that game, you know.

“What do you mean you won’t?”, she asks surprisingly.

“You want to tell them? Then go ahead”, I say as she struggles in the arm.

“Let me go! How dare you? I’m your princess”, she says. They carry both of them to the detention room to spend the night there.

“You lost that right when you broke the rule and tried to flee!” I yell after her as she looks at me helplessly. Her red hair is flying around with the cool breeze till she is no longer in sight again.

I looked around for Zara, but realizes she is no more in sight. She didn’t even give me a chance to say “thank you” I walk to my chambers to sight her quite asleep as I layed on the bed part with the pillows wall dividing us.

“Princess Fernánda, you tried to flee with a palace guard knowing full well that it is a crime. What do you have to say?” the royal attorney says staring head on at the princess in boldness.

I had told my parents of her flee attempt and they felt saddened because of the shame. My mother had tried to make us cover it, but my dad being as fierce as he was insisted that sister must be punished.

This led to the summoning of the royal family members which were my parents; Ricardo my brother, uncle Durello and Samantha, his wife with their kids, John and Julia. We were presently in the royal court, and I sat beside Zara who looked unsettled. She feared Fernánda would expose us too.

“I have done nothing wrong”, she says. This led to gasps from everyone surprised she wasn’t afraid but instead defending her actions.

“If love is a crime then I would be arrested a million time for it” my eyes almost gorge at her sentence. She was ruining our reputation more and she really stop.

“So, you’re saying that a princess attempting to leave her kingdom with a lowly guard is not a crime?”, the royal attorney asks again straightening his glasses as people watch carefully.

“Is it not also a crime marrying a princess off to who she doesn’t love?”, she defends once again as people nod in support and some in disapproval, giving her awkward glances.

“You very much know that wasn’t the answer to the question”, he says folding his hands.

“And you know that is no way to talk to your princess”, she positions herself as she remains in standing position.

“Enough!”, my father arises from his throne saying in total anger looking clearly annoyed as signaled stop with his index finger.

“You! My trusted daughter stooped so low to attempt to flee with a guard. So here is your sentence. For spoiling our dignity---“, my father tries to say with authority radiating from his voice but is cut off.

“What dignity? Dignity’s that was broken long ago by my brother?”, she says lifting her chin up.

“What are you talking about, dear?” my mother says arising from her throne seat.

“My dear brother, Zack and his perfect wife have not consummated their marriage” she says and I feel my muscles flex in anger. I hadn’t prepared for it.

The whole crowd gasps at the big reveal that Fernanda had just made. Couldn’t believe she had just revealed it.

“There is no such thing as a good story. There is only something like a good book. A good book is where a reader finds complete solace and comfort; a way to escape harsh realities relating to his life.”
