Alaris
***
Her confusion was too obvious; it was etched into her face like a tattoo. She had every right to be skeptical about me and my offer. It still didn't settle well with me as to how calmly she was taking the entire situation. If it was someone else in her place, they would have started running for the hills already. Even then, it didn't settle well with me how she had a frown more or less engraved in between her brows. I was about to clear away her doubts when an all too familiar voice interrupted my thoughts.
"Alpha?"
I turned around to see Hannah standing with her hands folded behind her back. She was a shy one, a quality that any sane man would admire in his woman. But I was never amongst the sane ones.
"Yes, Hannah?"
As much as I didn't want to be rude with her, my words sounded ignorant. It didn't help how hoarse and strained my voice came out.
"I apologize for bothering you and your guest but Beta Alex told me to pass along a message." Hannah apologized with a small bow of her head.
"He could have mindlinked me." I frowned at her explanation.
"He tried, Alpha. You have blocked out everyone. You were also not replying to his text messages." She was avoiding looking directly in my direction, though her eyes would stop to focus behind me every now and then. But it wasn't her uncalled attention on Sera which ticked me off. It was the fact that I had blocked out everyone without even wanting to. I didn't remember tuning my pack out, especially Alex since he was my Beta.
Without thinking too much over it, I shifted my attention to the little lady who was silently observing our exchange with her widened eyes. Her eyes flickered up to meet mine and she held them in place. Not an ounce of fear could be seen in those stormy gray orbs of her. Was she not affected by the power my body radiated? Or my wolf had reeled it in a little so that she would not be afraid of us? Why would he do that? She wasn't our mate, was she?
"Do I have something on my face?" She broke the silence first as she brought her fingers up to her face.
"No." With a brief reply, I turned around to face Hannah once again only to see her frowning at me. I raised an eyebrow at her. "What is it?" Why was she still here? Oh, yes! The message Alex had for me. "What was it that you came to tell me?"
"Uh… about that." She fumbled with her words. "Beta Alex asked me to inform you that he won't be able to drive your guest home. Something went wrong with your company's website and he had to fix it himself. He told me to pass you these." She extended out one hand in my direction and showed me what it was.
My car keys.
"Thanks, Hannah." I took it from her before dismissing her with a small nod.
"Let's get you home, little one." I motioned my head to the side, silently asking her to follow me to which she complied without another word.
We were on our way to her home when she finally broke her silence.
"Why is it that you are telling me all of this? Why trust me with one of your secrets?"
I kept my focus on the road ahead as I entertained her questions.
"You look like a smart one. Why don't you try and take a guess?"
"It can not only be that you expected me to keep this to myself. Combined with the fact that you knew I was adopted, could be from my medical records. You didn't bring me to the town's hospital but to your own place. This all points towards one thing." She was rambling by the time but I could tell from the confidence laced in her words that she was getting somewhere.
"So, you are saying…" I trailed off, giving her the chance to finish it herself.
"I am one of you. Correct me if I am wrong?"
I glanced to my right to see her staring ahead. Her face was devoid of any expressions as if it wasn't the truth of her existence that we were talking about but the weather.
"I wasn't wrong. You sure are smart."
"That I am. Also, there's this voice in my head which keeps telling me that I have a wolf too."
Her words made me bring the card to a screeching stop in the middle of the road as my head snapped in her direction.
"You look more shocked than me."
My eyes moved over her face, looking for any sign of humor. I found none.
"She's back?"
"You know her?" It was the only time that her face went from being blank to expressive. Her eyes were arched up her forehead as she stared back at me in complete horror.
"I.. ummm… I met her when I came to check on you at your spot." I put the car again into drive but only to park it on the side of the road. It was time that we talked about why exactly she fainted. And I was not going to do it in a moving car.
"Now, I am all confused." She shook her head as she frowned.
"Remember how I told you that it's not possible for us to shift into our wolves before we are of a certain age." I paused, giving her the time to process my words. "It's usually when we turn thirteen that we shift for the first time. But in some cases it can happen a little later too. There's no harm in that. But at most it's by the age of sixteen that they have their first shift. We call those late bloomers. Though never in my life have I ever heard of a late bloomer who still hasn't shifted even at your age."
"Does that make me… not normal?" Her frown deepened at which I shook my head.
"I can't say why you never shifted before. Maybe, you inherited it from your parents. Or, maybe only one of them was a wolf. But having a human partner is too rare for us." I shrugged, not knowing how else to make her feel better about the situation.
"So, I was basically shifting for the first time when you found me."
I hummed in response.
"What does my wolf look like?" She asked me out of nowhere. "I mean, is it big or scrawny? The color of its fur?"
"I wish I could answer your questions, but I don't know. You didn't finish shifting. You were in too much pain to even begin with the process. I had to use an alpha command to subdue your wolf before it could force the shift."
"Why?"
"Like I said before, you were in too much pain. The shift could have killed you if I didn't stop her." My eyes found hers and I gave her a small smile. It wasn't a cheerful one. It conveyed my deepest sympathies. I didn't want to pity her for she was so much stronger than this. But I could understand her turmoil. It wasn't easy having someone else tell you that the entirety of your life had been nothing but a lie. And to have someone question your identity, it must be hard for her even if she wasn't letting it on.
I saw Sera bob her head up and down in understanding. "She is saying she's sorry… that she was eager to finally be with me."
"I know. It's only natural for her to want that. Just as our wolf counterparts complete us, it's important for them as well to be in touch with their human sides. The stronger the link is between you and your wolf, the more powerful you both are going to be." I explained it to her.
"She is telling me to thank you." A smile bloomed across her face, her lips curling up at the corners. "Both you and your wolf."
"Oh, really?"
"Yeah!" She bobbed her head up and down, making her stray curly locks to bounce with her movements. "So, thank you. I would love to meet him sometime."
"We'll see about that." With that, I pulled the car back into drive. "Let's get you home now, little one." I watched her from the corner of my eye as I drove down to our destination. She was no longer supporting that blank look from earlier, but rather had an endearing smile hugging her lips as she stared outside through the tinted window. I wondered what was going inside that head of hers.
'She doesn't have to thank me.'
It was my wolf who brought me out of my thoughts.
'You did save her from dying.' I countered despite knowing he would never listen to me.
'I would do anything for her…'
'W-what…do you mean?' He left me hanging with those words as he had already locked himself inside my subconscious mind. I tried pushing against the wall he had pulled up, but it was all in vain. He refused to budge.
I glanced in Sera's direction one more time as I thought over his words.
What did he mean by that?
Hello, my lovelies! Who exactly is Hannah? Is she just a pack member or means more to our Alpha? Stay tuned to find out. Don't forget to vote for the story. Have a good day y'all ;)
Seraphine *** Yesterday was… odd, and that was me putting it nicely. The minute I arrived at home, I ended up pinching my arms and thighs in hopes that the last couple of hours were nothing more than a weird dream. Though all I got in result were a few screaming red marks and nothing else. I didn't wake up with a jolt. Neither did my surroundings change. Everything was exactly where it should have been, or how it should have been. Even now when I was on my way to college, I was struggling to believe it. Oddly enough, what bugged me more was the fact that it was kept a secret from us all and for so long. I was somewhat coming to terms with werewolves being a part of this world. 'You are supposed to meet him again. Don't forget that.' There it was again, the lady-like voice echoing inside my brain. And I was not referring to my subconscious self. It was a completely different entity residing there—inside my freaking mind. 'There will come a day when you will be the one taking t
Alaris *** "Alex!" A loud, excited yelp made me groan internally. What was so exciting about meeting my Beta? Wasn't she the one who was, apparently, nervous about the entire situation? Because she wasn't sounding anywhere near it to my ears. What I found more annoying was my Beta greeting her back with the same enthusiasm. "Sera!" "If you two are done with your greetings, can we focus on the more pressing matter here?" I couldn't hold myself back any longer. Their loud chirpings were getting my wolf worked up. "You are such a mood killer." It was Alex who replied back while Seraphine went quiet, pursing her lips together as if she was scared to allow another sound slip through her lips. "You will get all the time to bond with her once she has received her training." For some unknown reason, the idea didn't settle well with my wolf. "My priority right now would be getting her in sync with her wolf…." I trailed off, realizing that she hadn't once mentioned her wolf's name to
Alaris *** "What the hell was that?" It was Alex who was hot on my tail as soon as I made my way inside my office. I had only returned after dropping Sera off at her place when he started throwing too many questions in my direction. Me and Sera had become a hot topic amongst the pack members and I knew I could only avoid it for some time. But having Alex poking me for answers was something I was least looking forward to. The rest of the pack members would have to be courteous enough towards me given my title. They wouldn't go around invading my privacy unless my matters were starting to affect the pack's matters. Alex, on the other hand, would straight up have me serve my ass to him on a platter. The more annoying part was that I couldn't say no to him. Heaving out a frustrated sigh, I made my way towards the office desk. "And what exactly are you talking about?" I knew what it was about, but instead of giving him the satisfaction, I would rather play oblivious to it. I didn't
Seraphine *** [Two weeks later…] "There you go." A bottle of water appeared before my face as I sat on the ground huffing, my outerwear drenched in sweat. "Thanks." I barely managed to grumble out a response as I practically snatched the bottle away. Seconds later, I was gulping down its contents. It was much needed. Not only the water, but the air I was forcing into my lungs with every breath. Not only had my ass been thrown to the ground multiple times, my arms were supporting bruises. What was worse was that nobody cared about it all. As it wasn't anything out of ordinary for them. Maybe that was the case seeing how fast the rest of them were healing. One minute there would be blood pouring out of deep gashes, and the very next all remained in their places were pink scars. But they were forgetting the crucial thing here; I was not one of them… yet. My wolf didn't allow me to heal like theirs helped them. Hell! She wasn't even willing to share her name with me. "Are you fe
Alaris *** "What are we doing here?" The girl didn't know how to stay quiet for even two minutes. "You'll see." I drew in a deep breath to keep myself in check. Something was seriously wrong with me. As much as it was easier for her to get on my nerves, my wolf refused to be bothered. Be it her overly talkative self, or her talent to call me names. I, on the other hand, was much easier to get to. I would end up losing my temper in two seconds when it came to her. All of that given, I was known to stay calm in the most stressful of the situations. This girl had my wirings short-circuiting in no time. "You said you'll tell me." Suppressing a groan of frustration, I continued trailing ahead of her while making sure that she wasn't too far away. Damn, those short legs. We would have already reached our destination if she wasn't walking this slow. "I said I will tell you once we reach there." I reminded her of my exact words from earlier. "But it's already been an hour since
Seraphine***What in the world was wrong with this man? One minute he would be so caring, and the very next he would have this constant scowl resting on his face as if I had asked him for both of his kidneys. Could werewolves even survive without both? Or did they need at least one of them to be functioning properly like humans? 'Focus, Sera!' I shook the weird thoughts off as I continued to follow him. Given his height, I had to take two steps to cover one of his. Why didn't I accept Hannah's offer while it was still on the table? Sitting in my room back at the packhouse would have been so much better than following him to God knows where. The trail we were following seemed like a never ending dirt track, one which was barely ever used. At least that was all I could tell from the looks of it. I had already questioned him a million times over by now about where we are heading since we started this trail, but the man refused to give me a single clue. As if that was not enough, I ha
Alaris *** Blood—the only thing which could have satiated my hunger. Or more precisely, it was Marcus who was going after the rogue's blood, wanting nothing more than to have a taste of it. His rage was only getting worse as seconds ticked by, his sanity about to snap. Within such a short span of time, he had grown fond of Sera. While she knew how to easily rile me up, her antics never got the best out of Marcus given he would have ripped another person into two by now if they were to tread the same deep waters as his beloved Sera. Moreover, my beast made a promise to keep her protected at all costs. He wanted her out of harm's way and as far as possible from it. It was going to be later that he was going to worry about the presence of a rogue inside the pack borders. How was this one able to get this far inside without alerting the border patrol or tripping the security system? That was for another time for me to figure out. I needed to take care of this rogue first. With that t
Seraphine *** I ran down the dirt track as fast as my feet carried me, stumbling along the way but never stopping. Not even once did I turn around to see if one of the foul smelling beasts were trailing me. There was only one thought clouding my senses; I had to find my way to the town and alert Alex about the rogue attack. It was only now that I was hoping to be like the rest. If only I was a normal wolf, I would have been of some help to Alaris. Instead of running away to save my own neck, I could have fought alongside him and made sure that none of those rogues made it to the town. I was lost in my own thoughts when my ears caught on something in the running wind. It was the sound of leaves getting crushed under pressure. My sprint slowed down to a slow jog as I tried to figure out the direction it was coming from. My eyes wandered around my surroundings. From the foliage dancing to the sweet melody of the chilly breeze to the soft dirt under my joggers, I found nothing out
