Chapter 2

It's been two days since Alexander returned from the war, and somehow he has not been able to take his mind off the slave girl he saved on that fateful day.

And even though he could tell that she was weak and wolfless, he found himself thinking about her often.

He'd never fancied any girl as much as he did for her, which surprised him the most. She was not all that good-looking like all the other girls he had been with.

She was tiny, didn't have great skin, and was unsure of herself.

But why was he feeling this way towards her, and why was she the only thing he had been thinking of since he first set his eyes on her?

His wolf had been silent, but as soon as he smells her close by, he gets restless. Is his wolf not supposed to claim her at first sight if she is his mate? He wondered.

He had been doing all he could to not give in to the desire to go over to the medical section of the pack just to behold her one more time.

To smell her

Another thing that bothered Alex a lot was the fact that his uncle was beginning to abuse the alpha right, being that he was the one that was put in charge of the throne.

He has been going around making trouble with anyone and everyone that comes his way, causing the pack of warriors to fight from one battle to the next.

As much as Alex is not one to back down from a fight, he can't help but feel the pain that some of his warriors have to go through.

Some have been badly injured for life, and some children may never get to see their fathers again.

He had promised himself not to bother talking to his uncle, but with the recent developments and the way things are going, they might end up losing all their good soldiers, leaving the pack vulnerable to other enemies.

Back in the medical section of the pack, the entire place was rowdy, with warriors groaning in pain and servants running around helping the injured soldiers.

Ashley was trying to get used to this scenario and only wished that she could run away from what was expected of her.

But she knows what she has to do. She can't sit back and watch innocent children lose their fathers, at least not when she can help it.

Ashley may have been born without a wolf, but her blood was a healing tonic, and a single drop was enough to save more than five wounded soldiers.

Before she came to know of her gift, she was a source of embarrassment to her family and her pack, as they would often make fun of how insignificant she was in the pack's ranking.

That was until the day her parents decided that they had enough of her and decided to sell her into slavery so they could use the money made from her to send their favorite child to school.

She was taken to a new pack, where she became a slave. On her way back from an errand one evening, she found a wounded soldier who had lost so much blood on a lonely path.

She offered to help him and to allow him to suck her blood so he could get enough strength to get to his family.

But to her surprise, as soon as his fangs plucked into her skin, the soldier's injuries started healing faster than anything she had ever seen.

The soldier was amazed and decided to drag her to the alpha and inform him of what he had just discovered.

They turned her into a blood production factory and got as much blood as they wanted without taking proper care of her.

She was emaciated, and one day they discovered that her blood had dried out.

Out of fury, she was sold to yet another pack, and that is how she found herself here.

While she was in the previous pack, she also noticed that she had gotten some sort of power, but she had never really given in to the power. She felt she could control the wind, water, fire, and earth, even though she had never tried it.

She also has never told anyone about it, as it scares her a lot. It was already bad enough that she was wolfless, but to be seen as a monster was something she was unwilling to fight, at least not yet.

She has since noticed that the drugs that were being administered to the warriors were merely painkillers, not strong enough to heal them completely.

At least the main nurse was pleasant to her. She had yet to get to know other people, as she was very shy, and it was not hard to see why from her first appearance.

"Ashley," the nurse, whom everyone fondly called Grace, called out.

She walked tiredly to the elderly woman, who looked at her sadly. Even though she had been well fed since the day she stepped into the medical section, she was still weak and didn't have much stamina.

Grace said calmly to Ashley, "You look hungry." "Why don't you grab a chocolate bar from the fridge to bite into, and afterward, you can follow June to give some medicine to the alpha in waiting?"

She nodded her head and was about to head to the fridge when June rushed in her direction. June was a very beautiful girl with long blonde hair.

"Let's go and give the Alpha his medicine first, after which we can both come for a light snack, please." June pleaded.

Ashley is not one to turn people down, and if this is going to be her new home, it would be better if she started trying to make a few friends.

She nodded her head in agreement, and that made June very happy.

June happily went over to where the alpha medicine had been kept and picked it up while Ashley walked slowly behind her.

"I'm so sorry for not letting you grab something to eat before we left," June said, breaking the long silence they'd had since they left their section.

Ashley would soon learn that the alpha section was a different section entirely. It was about a forty-minute walk from their section.

"It's okay," Ashley mumbled.

"No, I need to apologize because I don't want you to see me as a bad person, and there is a reason why I did that," June said, blushing.

From an instant, one can tell that June is a very friendly and chatty girl, unlike Ashley, who is quiet and reserved.

Well, life has taught Ashley to only speak when she has been spoken to.

"Don't you want to know why?" June asked Ashley, who didn't seem bothered about her reasons.

She looked at June and smiled.

They soon got to the alpha section of the pack, and one need not be told that the rich and powerful lived in this section.

There were over five buildings that looked identical in the huge compound that was decorated with flowers, a waterfall, lots of luxurious cars, and beautiful artwork scattered across the premises.

A guard walked towards the gate as soon as they got close to find out who they wanted to see.

"We are here to see the alpha in waiting," June said, and as soon as the guard could identify her, he opened the gate for them to enter.

Once Ashley was inside the compound, she was beyond amazed at the beauty the alpha palace had to offer.

"You will have to do me another favor," June said as they moved closer to the entrance of the mansion.

Ashley wondered what type of favor it was this time that June wanted.

"You will have to go and give the Alpha the medicine. There is someone I need to see," she quickly added.

"But I don't know him," Ashley said in a panic, as she was scared not to make any mistakes.

"Of course, you know him." He was the one who saved you from being executed. Don't worry; there is nothing much. Just introduce yourself and hand over the medicine to him. Then you can come and wait for me outside. "I promise I will join you soon," June said as she handed over the medicine to Ashley.

Ashley had a flashback of the man who saved her. He appeared to be a dangerous man with bloody shoes. She didn't get to see his face, but his aura screamed danger. She had often wondered why the man saved her, but she never really thought much of it other than the fact that it was not yet her time to die.

But going to see the same man in his room didn't quite sit well with Ashley. What if she makes a mistake and he snaps her neck right there in his room?

Nobody is going to know what happened to her. No one would dare question what happened to her because no one questions the alpha.

"How do I find him?" Ashley asked in a shaky voice.

"Just walk down the hallway." When you get to the end, you will find a room on the right. "Knock and wait till you get approval to go on before entering," June said.

And before Ashley had the opportunity to ask more questions, June had disappeared into the huge mansion.

With shaky hands, Ashley walked in the direction she was told until she got to the door of the room that was described to her.

She knocked on the door faintly and waited for a response. She could feel her heart almost pumping out of her tiny ribs as she took in breaths at intervals to steady her racing heart.

She heard a sound from the inside of the room and thought that it was the response she was waiting for as she pushed the door open and went in.

Her little eyes almost popped out of their sockets when her eyes fell on the well-built, naked man dripping in water before her.

The medicine she was holding slipped from her shaky fingers and hit the floor hard, splattering its content all over the well-polished floor.

She had never seen a naked man before, and the mere fact that she had just seen a naked alpha only meant one thing in most packs.

and that means her death.
