Chapter 17

The day's chores went better than usual. Margaret was surprisingly lenient on me. She even met me with a few smiles. I cannot help but think that maybe she is trying to bury the hatchet after I told her that I was not trying to get into Alexander's bed. But there was one thing for sure. I would have to try and get on Alexander's good side if I want to find out about the prophecy. I can only hope that doesn't require me to end up in his bed.

After finishing the day's work I rip off my shoes and toss them carelessly in the corner of the room. Flopping down on my bed I stare up at the ceiling. Margaret enters the room not long after and throws something in my direction. "What's this?" I ask as a box hits my stomach with thud.

Margaret clears her throat awkwardly and shuffles a little bit where she stands. "I noticed that you are always taking off your shoes. I found you a more comfortable pair."

Sitting up, I open the box and find a pair of brand new shoes. I cannot rem
