LOGINElara blinked open her eyes expecting to see her creaky old ceiling fan twirling slowly above her and creating more heat than air but instead, she was met with a chandelier with low lights hanging over her head as the frigid air bit into her skin.
She pressed her eyes shut as if trying to dissipate the confusion and her eyes flew open as the events of the past few hours came rushing back to her head, her hands gripping onto the bedsheets. “I think you should sleep some more.” A deep voice said from the shadows. “Fuck!” Elara cussed as she flew back into the bed. Her brain quickly registered the voice and she squinted her eyes in the direction it came from. “You know, you are a disgusting creep! What are you even doing watching me sleep?” Kael shrugged, even though Elara couldn’t see him. “You are the one in my bed, in my room. I know you are hot for me, I can tell by the way you have looked at me all night, but there was no way I was getting into that bed with you in it. And if you ask me; I would say manipulating someone into sleeping with you is psycho level creepy.” “Well, I didn’t ask you. And the only thing I would be doing when I get in bed with you is stab you in your sleep, creep.” “Oohh,” Kael sang. “So you do want to get into bed with me. I am really not a difficult man to please, Elara. All you have to do is ask softly and I will give you the night of your life.” “Is that what you say to all unsuspecting girls before ripping out their hearts and feeding it to them?” Kael chuckled softly, “Just you, darling.” He clicked on the reading lamp on the desk in front of the chair where he was sitting and illuminated the room a tad bit. Elara blinked to welcome in the brightness. “Now, get out of my room.” Elara sat unmoving in the middle of the king size. She had finally let go of the beddings and had her arms crossed under the duvet. “Why?” “Because it’s my room and I don’t want you in it.” “No. Why did you allow my parents to sell me to you? Why couldn’t you have just waited till they paid you back everything in cash. The fact that you are the Wolf King of the three packs still does not give you the right to buy people. I am a person with my own dreams and ambitions and it does not include serving as someone’s slave for the rest of my life.” Kael nodded. “I am glad you understand the status we both hold. Master and slave.” Elara scoffed as tears began forming in her eyes. A knot tightened in her chest and in her throat. Her whole life has been upended in just a few hours. The man whom she planned on eloping and spending the rest of her life with dumped her for someone else and her parents, her terrible parents she believed would change their attitudes towards her sold her to a tyrant Alpha. “It is funny to you, huh?” She swallowed down the knot in her throat and climbed off the bed. She was still in the same clothes she had all night only with a God-awful stench. The rain that beat her mixed with her sweat were all dried up on her body. Elara dragged the beddings off with her as she climbed down the bed, leaving the mattress bare. She took two pillows and stuffed them both under each arm. “What are you doing?” Kael kept his composure as he watched Elara with only but a raised brow. “If I am going to be staying in that disaster of a room you showed me, I will need some exquisite beddings to soothe my body in order to be in great shape while outlining my plans to kill you.” “That is the third time you are threatening to kill me, Elara. You do know what will happen if I die, right?” “Yes. The world will be one asshole short.” She reached for the doorknob but with the pillows stuffed under her arms, she couldn’t reach it. Huffing out loudly, she dropped one pillow to the floor, opened the door, glared at Kael one last time and banged the door behind her. Elara’s assigned room was just two doors away from Kael’s. With everything she gathered from his room, she stood in the middle of the room and looked around. It was still as she saw it when Kael showed it to her some hours ago. Bare. Save from the lamp on the desk in one corner of the room. The wind rocked the windows back as the cool air blew into the room. Elara dumped the beddings on the bed and shut the window. She looked out to the sunrise as she pulled the curtains together as the memories of her conversation with Sean came rushing back to her head. “You are the last ranking omega without a wolf…” “…Farrah is fit to carry healthy cubs…” “Nobody loves you…” “That’s on you for being foolish.” A cry choked out of her mouth as she slumped to the floor. The cold floor was biting into her knees, threatening to give her an early health issue but she didn’t budge. The carpet was barely cushioning the cold but the pain in her chest was bigger than the cold biting her skin. Tears pumped down her cheeks and she swiped them off angrily but the harder she swiped, the harder the tears fell…and fell…and fell. Slowly, her body toppled over and she curled into a small ball on the floor, her sobs coming shorts. She allowed her tears to flow freely this time and slowly, she drifted away. “Hey…hey.” Elara heard the soft voice pulling her back from the darkness she was drifting into. The voice was soft against her eyes, like a velvety cushion landing. “Elara!” She blinked her eyes open and saw a figure hovering above her. “Oh, for fuck’s sake. Can you not be a creep!” She yelled when she registered the figure above her. “Run her a hot bath in my room. She is freezing.” Elara looked to her side and saw two women looking at her with widened eyes.Harry paced the length of his room when he got back to his house. His hands were tucked into his pockets, his shirt and vest long discarded. His hair had been combed back with his fingers, the length of it pricking the back of his neck.He stopped in front of the large mirror at a corner of the room and looked at himself. He didn’t need any telling to know that his worry was visible on his face. He could see it, he saw how sunken his eyes looked and how deep his frown lines were.Sighing, he blew air into his cheeks and slowly released it to ease off some tension just as the door to the room opened.A lady in a blue robe with bright red hair walked in carrying a tray. Harry watched her movement in the mirror as she dropped the tray on the vanity. She came up behind him and wound her arms around his waist and pressed a kiss along his spine.“Hi, Princess,” he said softly, cupping the arms holding him.“A little birdie told me you are a little grumpy and that you refused to eat tonight
Kael carried Elara through the hallway without any other word despite her protest. Her hand hung loosely around his neck, she refused to look at him so she forced her eyes on his chest. Something she learnt to regret immediately. The first two buttons of his shirt were undone, showing off his hard chest. She buried her chin in her neck. With every step Kael took, Elara’s body jerked with a small shiver. He hated it -the little huffs of breath she passed out as he walked. He ducked to the other wing of the house and headed straight for his bedroom. He pushed the door open with his shoulder and walked to the bed. He laid her down carefully on the mattress. “Hmm,” Elara moaned painfully the moment her legs touched the sheets. His brows tightened as he lifted her pyjama legs again. “How far did you go, Elara?” It was more of a statement than a question but Elara responded anyway.“The borders. Or across, rather.”He let go of her cloth and drew back to look at her well. “You came back
Elara woke up to the sound of rain. Not the gentle patter against the roof but the violent drumming of rain against the earth. Her eyes fluttered open. The raindrops on her lashes fell into her eyes and she blinked them away.I’m alive. Elara thought. Her eyes stared into the sky above her. It was still dark but the early morning light was beginning to find its way in it. Rain soaked through her clothes, plastering them against her skin. Mud covered where the clothes didn’t reach. Her muscles screamed when she tried to move. She felt the tears before it came. Shaking her head to keep them off, she propped herself up by her elbows. Her eyes darted to the large mass of land across Amarok Hegemony. She had crossed the borders. She had left Amarok, she remembered that. She was just a foot away from it but she had left. So why was she still here?Elara pushed herself to sit up. Her eyes searched around.Asides the dead bodies across from her, there was nobody else there. The soldiers a
The robotic movement in Elara’s step remained as she stalked back into the building. Her feet moved just like her brain instructed her to, ‘keep walking,’ and walk she did till she got to the front of the large building she managed to escape barely ten hours ago. Her eyes scanned the front house, only one of the soldiers stood at the entrance, unlike the gate where there were three of them. She entered the house, her eyes searching around. She took a deep breath when she saw that the person she was avoiding was not in sight; Harry. He was the last person she wanted to see at that time. Just as she moved onward, Cassian poked out his head through the railing of the stairs. She looked up and her eyes met his. His brows narrowed immediately on seeing her. He retracted his head and ran back upstairs. Elara followed him up but as Cassian opened the door to Kael’s room, she ducked to the left wing of the house and began searching for the room she stumbled upon a week ago when she was
“I find it hard to believe that not one, one of those rogue Outcasts were captured after everything they did to our people last night.” One of the elders’ hard voice filtered through the council room. His eyes darted between the other men gathered in the room and stopped at Kael who was seated at the head of the table.Kael’s fingers pressed hard against his temples, almost digging into them. His eyes were squeezed shut, it was the only way he knew to curtail the pain. The pain he had been nursing since the middle of the night.“Has she been found yet?” Kael asked through the mindlink.Harry, who was seated at Kael’s right hand, whipped his head to Kael immediately, his brows narrowed in irritation. “The slave? Is that what is on your mind right now?”Kael growled. “That does not answer my question, Harry.”Harry turned his face away. “Not yet, Alpha. We have searched through two sectors of the pack, the men are still searching.”“Expand the search to Grimblood pack, I doubt she kno
A loud howl sounded in the distance. Kael grabbed Elara immediately by her arm and stirred her into her room. The howl came again, this time, a bit closer than the last time.Hurried footsteps came running through the hall and a man carrying a flashlight rushed inside the room. Elara recognized him as the other man that took her from her home.It had been a while since she saw him. What was he doing there? And why was he in a hurry? The rays from the flashlight fell on Kael’s body. Splashes of blood covered his body.Elara’s eyes widened as she looked up at him. She saw his face clearly now. Streaks of blood lined his face. His eyes, sharp orange.“Alpha, I have alerted the men. They have gathered around the fountain.”A drop of blood rolled down Kael’s cheek. Elara reached out to him but he tilted his head back, away from her reach. His face looked like it had been clawed through. “What’s going on?” Her face was twisted in worry.“Stay here.” Kael thundered. His voice, gruff. He
