Between Distance and Desire

Darina had no desire to visit the jewellery shop today. After lunch, she went to her room and was surprised to find fifteen books the Queen had sent her to read. Darina loved reading, but fifteen books in one evening was too much, even for her.

Still, she made herself comfortable in the large armchair by the window and opened the first book. Royal Etiquette and Protocols didn’t exactly thrill her, and the loud laughter of pups outside quickly distracted her.

She looked out the window, and the view surprised her.

Kai was running around with three little pups, playing tag. The pups were laughing, clearly having the time of their lives. But what truly amazed her was that the mighty, arrogant Kai seemed to enjoy it just as much. His caramel hair was messy from the chase, glowing under the sun. He was smiling—and those sexy dimples deepened on his cheeks.

As one of the puppies tackled him, he threw his head back in laughter. Her defences seemed to falter when she saw him like this, carefree and unguarded. This isn't how you should feel. In an attempt to control the flutter in her belly, she pressed her lips into a thin line.

She could not even think about him. She would not survive another rejection. She had always been alone, and her goal was to serve fellow wolves, not romance. Especially not with Kai. He was conceited. He was rude. He was... forbidden. However, as she watched him effortlessly pick up a laughing puppy, the heat that blossomed in her cheeks persisted. His jaw clenched slightly, his biceps flexed, and she briefly pictured what it would be like to run her fingers through that thick, sun-kissed hair. For even thinking it, she cursed herself.

"He is hot," Coral said.

"Coral, come on," Darina scolded.

"And his wolf is stunning. I can’t wait to play with him."

"Oh my god, Coral. Stop it. I need to study."

"At least I’m honest with myself. The wolf and his human are yummy, and I can’t wait to..."

A knock at the door cut Coral off.

To her surprise, it was Kai.

Darina blushed, remembering the thoughts she had just pushed away.

"Darina, we started off on the wrong foot. I didn’t even get a chance to know you better. Will you join me tomorrow for lunch outside?" Kai asked, smiling shyly.

Darina blinked. Was she imagining this? Too polite. Too sweet. Could this really be Kai? Still, she had notes and ideas she needed to discuss with him about her future duties.

"Sure, I will."

"I’ll pick you up tomorrow at noon. Good night." He smiled warmly and left.

Darina studied late into the night, skipping dinner. She only paused to enjoy a long, relaxing bath with lavender oil.

Sleep claimed her quickly.

Meanwhile, rumours of the future Luna’s speech in the cafeteria spread throughout the pack. Everyone spoke of her with admiration.

The news reached Kai, too, and Blake beamed with pride for his chosen mate. Somehow, Kai also found himself liking that she stood up for herself and had already won the respect of the pack.

She was Luna material—he had to admit it.

He also admitted something else: Jackie’s flirting used to excite him. Now, her seductive attempts only irritated him. He didn’t want her anymore.

More often than he would have liked to admit, Darina's name kept repeating in his mind. He closed his eyes, lying in his bed and letting out a slow exhale.

He could only see her face, those delicate features, porcelain skin, the sky-blue eyes, and the stubborn line of her jaw when she was angry. So incisive. So sharp. They looked through him, not just at him.

Her lips were full and soft, and when she was amused or biting back a retort, it curled into an almost-smile.

He pictured her voice whispering against his neck, her lips brushing against his skin, and the feel of her breath against his skin.

No. Put an end to it.

This was not how she was supposed to affect him. She was merely a political necessity, an arranged match. A problem, if he told himself the truth.

But now... she was beneath his skin, in his mind.

She was stunning. Striking. With a strength that pushed him to pay attention, challenged him, and captivated him.

She was strong and, at the same time, graceful and undeniably sexy.

"Gather yourself. Nobody will ever replace Julie. Do not get attached to anyone, and you will not face the pain of losing them." He repeated again in his mind.

However, the image reappeared when he relaxed and sleep approached—Darina in her black lace nightgown, her lips parting begging to be kissed, her hair cascading over her bare shoulders, her perky breasts covered only by a thin lace layer, her toned long legs.

Sh*t.

Squeezing his eyes shut, Kai rolled onto his side. He was getting aroused. He was finding it impossible to resist her temptation. What's the worst?

He did not want to.

  • The Alpha Prince's Fierce Bride   Epilogue: The Light of Life

Kai was pacing in the hospital room as Darina was taken to the operating theatre. He didn’t hear the cooing voices of his dad, Barbara, and Amber, who were rocking his two pups. Everything around him was a blur—only the loud drum of his heartbeat echoed in his ears. He was terrified. What if his mate and daughter didn’t make it? No. That wasn’t possible. She had been through war, crossed realms, and survived his curse. She couldn’t die giving birth. The Moon Goddess couldn’t be that cruel. His father placed a hand on his shoulder, trying to stop him from pacing restlessly. “Son, she’ll be alright. Come, spend time with your newborn pups.” “How could he be so sure?” thought Kai, while Blake howled in his head, sick with worry for their mate. “Did you name your babies?” asked Amber, trying to distract Kai, hiding her own anxiety. “The girl’s name is Mila, and the boy’s Kyle,” he said bluntly. Suddenly, Camilla entered, carrying a tiny bundle in her arms. A baby girl opened

Sometimes, it’s good to be wrong. And Darina was actually happy that her feeling of an upcoming storm turned out to be nothing more than the awkwardness of finally being at peace — learning to adjust to a new reality. Time flew by, and soon, Luna Elena welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world, whom she named Delilah. “She looks like you,” Kai said with a smile, glancing at Darina’s sister. “Hope she’ll be brave and smart like her big sister,” said Alpha Claus, taking his baby girl into his arms and gently rocking her. “Soon, we’ll have our own miracle,” Colin said, caressing Jackie’s still-flat stomach. “Are you expecting a pup?” Darina and Kai asked in unison. “Yes,” Jackie beamed. “Soon, Dariel, Delilah, and Larissa’s pups will have a playmate. I said before that I wouldn’t start a family until I’d taken my business to the next level. And thanks to you and Amber — after you both visited my shop and gave that interview — our sales tripled.” “Your success is well deserved,”

  • The Alpha Prince's Fierce Bride   The Shadows We Inherit

Darius inhaled deeply and began, “Our parents were killed during a rogue attack. My sister Helena was seventeen; I was thirteen. She took care of me like a mother, even though she was grieving. She was strong, beautiful, and kind.At eighteen, she met her mate—the gamma’s son, our pack’s future gamma. Within a year, she was pregnant. I was fifteen then, already tall and broad-shouldered from training every day. The Luna of our pack took a liking to me. She was twenty-five years older. I was waiting for my mate. She drugged me and r*ped me. But that wasn’t the worst part. Afterwards, she wanted me to come to her willingly. When I refused, she showed me how cruel she could be. She gave my sister to a group of ten rogues to r*pe while four warriors held me down and made me watch.”Darina and Amber gasped in shock while Lily squeezed his hand, her nails digging into his skin. Everyone at the table went utterly still—no one even dared to breathe. Alaric’s jaw clenched, fury flashing in his

  • The Alpha Prince's Fierce Bride   Love in the Morning Garden

The wedding lasted three days, so the next morning began with a beautiful breakfast in the garden.Darina and Kai were walking toward the tables when they bumped into Maya and Ludwing. Their hands were locked, and it looked like Maya was trying to yank hers free, but Ludwing kept his grip tight.“No mates, huh?” teased Darina.“Sometimes we convince ourselves we don’t want something just because we don’t have it. I was sure I didn’t want a mate,” Maya said, softly giggling. “But Ludwing changed my mind.” She looked at him playfully, and he returned her affectionate gaze.Darina mindlinked Kai, “Who would’ve imagined that the cold-hearted seer and the witch afraid of commitment could become such a charming couple?”Kai just smiled.“I’m happy for both of you,” said Darina, and Kai nodded in agreement. They left the happy couple behind and continued toward the garden.“Looks like Cupid had his hands full these days,” j

  • The Alpha Prince's Fierce Bride   Bound as One

Darius closed his eyes. The image of Lily appeared in his mind. She looked breathtaking in her strapless wedding ballgown—a vision of lace, tulle, and delicate beadwork that shimmered with every step. Her sleek updo, jewelled tiara, and soft makeup highlighted her rare lilac eyes, completing a look both regal and ethereal. His heart clenched, seeing Alaric’s hands wrapped possessively around her waist. Darius saw their first dance, the cutting of the cake. Every smile Lily gave Alaric, every glance, every kiss was like a dagger to his heart. But there was no one to blame but himself. He had pushed her away, chasing revenge instead of holding on to his love. The wedding reception ended, and the newlywed couple left for their chambers. Darkness crept through Darius’s vision. A terrible pain split his head; the world tilted, spun—and then went still. When he opened his eyes again, he froze. His

Alaric turned, looked at the crowd, then back at Lily. His voice was strong and steady, echoing through the walls of the large wedding hall.“I’ve loved you, Lily, since the moment you were born. The moment your mom let me hold that tiny bundle of joy with lilac eyes, a special bond formed—at least from my side. I patiently waited for you to finally see me, to love me, to be ready for our relationship. And the moment you agreed to marry me was the happiest moment of my life.”He paused. Lily was staring at him, not even blinking. A tear slipped down her mother’s cheek—she was deeply moved, knowing how much Alaric truly loved her daughter. The guests were still silent, waiting.“Before I make an announcement, Lily, just answer one question—do you truly love me?” he asked softly.Lily’s eyes widened, her lips parting and trembling. It was such a simple question, yet it caught her completely off guard. All her life, she had loved Darius. She’d waited for

Kai was holding Darina's hand in silence. He had no energy to speak; hope was fading. What if she really would be sleeping for years? Left on life support, alive but dead at the same time. The sterile beeping of the machines gnawed at him, each sound like a cruel reminder of how uncertain their f

Maya teleported them just in front of the palace. Darina gasped in shock as a loud, animalistic roar pierced the sky. It did not belong to any shifter Darina had ever known, nor to any dark creature. The sound was laced with horror and danger. “Something is in the dungeo
