Evie's pov

My breath leaves my throat in a sharp gasp.

Two minutes.

The clock ticks loudly in the silence of the room. Each second striking like the end of a nail against my skull. My mouth opens but no word comes out. Fear has wrap it tight ugly fingers around my throat.

"Speak," Gavin commands, his voice causing my spine to straighten and for my wolf to perk in attention. I force myself to inhale to somehow fight for a calming breath.

"I-

My voice cracks and I wince inwardly. Time is ticking.

Evie's povI don't bother looking up to see who was there; I could sense them both. I knew they were coming. " What the hell is going on here!?" He blasts in the air. I glance at him from the corner of my eye and spot him instantly.Ryan stood in the doorway, chest heaving slightly, showing that he'd rushed here. His eyes scan the destruction in the kitchen, the shattered glass, the overturned table, Margaret looking like a deer caught in headlights and Hannah looking unsure of what to do.And then they landed on me and on my hand wrapped around Kimberly's throat. His Luna's throat.Would he attack me? Would he defend his luna? For a split second I thought he would as something dark flickered across his face. But then I realized it wasn't fury but something else. Gavin stepped in right behind him, his presence instantly filling the room, his sharp gaze taking in every detail just like Ryan did. But unlike Ryan, he didn't look surprised or worried. Instead he looked...impressed."Evi

Evie's povI moved back instantly and just barely avoided the strike as her claws grazed my shoulder, tearing through fabric and skin. A sharp sting followed but I ignored it. I've felt worse. This was nothing.Serena surged forward. 'Finally we can play,'I caught Kimberly's wrist mid-swing and twisted hard; the wrist of her bone nearly broke. She hissed, trying to knee me in the stomach, however I blocked it skillfully before she could land it. I slammed her backward into the counter and the impact rattled the cabinets.Hannah looks at me in surprise but chooses not to intervene. Margaret stumbled away, coughing violently as she clutched her throat. " Stop it," she coughs."You stupid bitch!" Kimberly roared, shifting partially as her eyes glow and her canines pushed out of her gums. "You've gone too far!"I smirked. "Have I?"She came at me again, her stance wild now with no strategy but just rage. Big mistake. I sidestepped her, grabbed her arm and used her very own momentum to th

Evie's povMargaret's eyes lit up with relief. She thought her dear daughter had come to save her. "Kimberly-" Margaret starts to call out but her eyes widen when I move my hand from her face and wrap my fingers around her throat. "Perfect timing," I said, amused. " I was just about to make your mother drink this tasty wine." My grip on Margaret's throat doesn't loosen and instead tightens. Kimberly's gaze dropped to my hand wrapped around Margaret's wrist.....then to the glass hovering dangerously close to Margaret's lips. Her eyes narrowed. " This is an order from the luna of this pack. Release my mother or else-" Would you shut the fuck up about your title?!" I hissed, growing irritated. " When will you realize you being Luna doesn't mean I would listen to you? You're not my luna Kimberly." I pointed out. Kimberly's her lips parted slightly as her expression twist nastily when my words hit her. She grows vexed and that when I saw it in her eyes, the doubt. But then it vanished

Evie's povPoisoned wine.I shouldn't expect anything less from the woman who birthed me. After all, she never truly loved me as a daughter.I grab the glass anyway, swirling the rich red liquid. I could feel her eyes on me, waiting.....waiting for me to take a sip.I don't drink just yet. I let her speak. " Evie, it's been so long hasn't it?" I raise an unimpressed brow. She brought me here for this? " Enough with the pleasantries Margaret-" You can call me mother now Evie," she cuts in with a smile that doesn't reach her face. I nearly laughed but I refrain and instead remain quiet until she speaks up again. " How have you been Evie?" she swirls the red wine in her glass but doesn't drink. She must think I'm a fool. Without wasting another second, I set my glass down and before she could even utter another word, I am beside her in a flash. I watch her eyes go wide with shock as my fingers wrapped around her wrist with the wine. The entire room which had already been silent grow

Ryan's povI stare at the two. Gavin and Evie. My teeth grind together as I watch her smile at him. Why am I that irritated by her smiling at him?I want to peel my eyes away but I can't.I fucking can't.'Let's rip his eyes out for watching her.' Apex growled which didn't quite help my temper.I let out a hiss and force myself to look elsewhere. Beta Margaret came to speak to Evie. It was clear Evie didn't trust her mother or like being in her presence.Which leads me to wonder what the Gold family was hiding. From Kimberly treating Evie like an outsider to now getting confirmation that Margaret didn't treat her kindly too. Had Dustin treated her unfairly as well? There were so many things to uncover.Without being able to stop myself, I find my eyes casting back to her as she walks away with Margaret. The way her shoulders were straight and the way she held her head high.....she oozed confidence. The second they disappeared my eyes drift to him. Alpha Gavin. The man Evie smiled at

Evie's povI stiffen and the air around me seems to thicken. My gaze ripped from the training warriors to the woman who had ignored me for years and pretended that I wasn't her own flesh and blood.Beta Margaret. My mother.'Who's that woman?' Gavin mind links as he stares at my mother who was walking over here.I swallowed something bitter as I looked away from my mother. 'My mother.' I replied to Gavin."Beta Margaret," Ryan grabs her attention the second she draws near. " Have you come to watch the head warrior of the midnight ridge pack train our warriors?" Though he was questioning my mother about the warriors, there's something more Ryan wants to know.Mother moves her eyes away from Ryan to stare at me. "I've come to speak to my daughter."I grit my teeth. Daughter? Now she wants to acknowledge me as her daughter?I couldn't help it. I let out a bitter laugh and watch Ryan look at me intrigued. "Daughter?" I turn to her, my eyes hard and cold. The very same way she stared at me
