Chapter 3

ผู้เขียน: Myosotis
I woke up in the pack infirmary.

My whole body ached. I turned my head and saw Kael sitting in the chair next to my bed. He hadn't slept. There were dark circles under his eyes, and his hair was a mess.

"Elena," he said, reaching for my hand. "I'm so sorry. I don't know what happened. I thought you were safe."

I pulled my hand away.

I didn't say anything. I just stared at the ceiling.

"Elena, please say something. Yell at me. Hit me. Just don't shut me out."

I looked at him. "You left me to die."

His face crumpled. "I thought Lila was losing the baby. I panicked. I'm so sorry."

"I know," I said quietly. "You will always choose her."

His arms were still warm when he pulled me into a hug. I could feel his heart beating against my chest. But my heart was already cold.

There was no going back.

Not after this.

Kael, I will build a new life without you.

In the days that followed, Kael never left my side.

He followed me everywhere. He even waited outside the bathroom door.

Lila would stand in the hallway, crying, but he ignored her.

"Elena," he said one morning, holding out an invitation. "It's the ten-year Gathering for the Northern Pack Academy. The entire cohort is attending. Be my date."

I stared at the academy crest on the invitation. I remembered ten years ago, when he had waited for me after school with tickets to the championship hunting match.

"Okay," I said.

At the reunion, Kael held my hand the entire night.

Our old friends teased us that we were still the perfect couple. Someone told the story about how Kael spent three days in the forbidden caves gathering Moonpetal flowers to brew my pre-hunt potion.

Kael smiled and pulled me closer. He kissed the top of my head, over and over again, like he was trying to memorize the way I felt.

"Remember the Rite of Passage?" one of our friends said, unlocking the heavy oak chest. "We sealed those letters in here when we finished the Rite. Today, we open them."

Everyone crowded around to get their letters.

I was just about to open mine when Kael's phone rang.

He looked at the screen. It was Lila.

He looked at me, his eyes pleading.

"Go," I said. "The baby is more important."

He kissed my forehead. "I'll be right back. I promise."

I watched him run out the door.

I walked over to where I buried our letters and found Kael's letter.

The envelope said "To Kael, Age 26". I opened it.

The paper was yellowed, but his handwriting was still the same.

To my future self,

If you are reading this, you are married to Elena. Congratulations. You are the luckiest man alive.

Now listen to me very carefully. You have to treat her like the queen she is. You have to love her more than anything in the world. If you ever hurt her, I will never forgive you.

Remember she drinks her coffee with two sugars.

Remember she hates cilantro with a passion.

Remember she is afraid of thunderstorms.

Remember she wants to see the Northern Lights.

And if you ever, ever make her cry, you have to let her go.

She deserves better than a man who breaks her heart.

At the bottom, in tiny letters, he had written:

Elena, if I ever stop loving you, leave me and never look back.

Tears fell onto the paper.

"Okay," I whispered. "I will."

I said goodbye to all my friends and left the reunion.

I took a taxi straight to the Council building.

Today was the seventh day. The bond was ready to be broken.

The clerk looked at me. "Luna, are you absolutely sure? Once this is done, it can never be undone."

"I'm sure," I said.

I watched her stamp the certificate.

At that exact moment, Kael was standing in the pack infirmary.

He suddenly clutched his chest and screamed. A pain worse than anything he had ever felt ripped through his body. It was the bond breaking.

We walked for a long time in silence, the sound of the waves crashing against the shore filling the space between us. When we got to my cottage, I stopped. I turned to Ethan, looking into his warm brown eyes.“Ethan,” I said, my voice soft. “You are the kindest, most wonderful werewolf I have ever met. And I care about you. More than I can say. But I can’t be with you. Not right now. Maybe not ever.”He nodded, like he already knew. A sad smile crossed his face. “I understand.”“I’ve spent the last two years learning how to be alone,” I said. “And I like it. I like not having to answer to anyone. I like not having to worry about being hurt again. I don’t need a man to complete me. I’m complete on my own.”He squeezed my hand. “I know. And that’s why I love you. I’ll wait. For as long as it takes. If you ever change your mind, I’ll be here.”I smiled. “Thank you.”He leaned down and kissed me gently on the forehead. “Goodnight, Elena.”“Goodnight, Ethan.”I watched him walk down the

Another year passed. Two years since I had left Silvercrest. Two years since I had seen Kael Thorne. My life was perfect. My shop was thriving. I had friends. I had Ethan. We were still just friends, but I knew he wanted more. I could see it in his eyes, feel it in the way he looked at me.On the night of my twenty-eighth birthday, Ethan took me to the beach. He had packed a picnic with my favorite foods: strawberries, cheese, crusty bread, and a bottle of wine. When the stars came out, he turned to me, taking my hand in his. His hand was warm and calloused, and it felt good.“Elena,” he said, his voice soft and sincere. “I have something to tell you. I know you’ve been hurt. I know you’re scared to trust anyone again. And I’m not going to ask you to forget the past. I’m not going to ask you to be with me if you’re not ready.” “But I need you to know that I love you. I have loved you since the first day I walked into your shop and saw you smiling at that little old lady who coul

The first time Kael’s men found me, Ethan was there. It was late at night, and I was closing up the shop. Three men walked in, wearing black leather jackets, their eyes cold and hard. I could smell the Silvercrest Pack on them immediately.“Luna Thorne,” the tallest one said, stepping forward. “Alpha Kael has sent us to bring you home.”I crossed my arms. “I am not Luna Thorne anymore. And I am not going anywhere with you.”“You don’t have a choice,” he said, reaching for my arm. Before I could react, Ethan stepped between us, his body tense, his eyes flashing gold. “Leave her alone.”The Silvercrest man laughed. “This is none of your business, boy. This is Pack business.”“This is my territory,” Ethan said, his voice low and dangerous. “And she is under my protection.”The three men tensed. They could smell that he was an Alpha. But they were three, and he was one. The tallest one pulled a silver knife from his belt.“Get out of our way, or we’ll kill you too.”I stepped around Etha

A year passed. My herbal shop was doing better than I had ever imagined. I was making enough money to live comfortably, and for the first time in my life, I was happy.I woke up every morning at six, went for a walk along the empty beach, then spent the day in my shop. I grew most of my own herbs in my garden: lavender, mint, rosemary, chamomile, and every weekend I would go hiking in the mountains to pick wild moonpetals and wolfsbane.I had friends. The baker down the street brought me fresh croissants every morning. The librarian saved me the latest mystery novels. The old fisherman taught me how to tie fishing knots and gave me fresh salmon every Friday. No one knew I was a werewolf. No one knew I had been a Luna. No one knew about Kael Thorne.I was just Elena. And it was enough. Then Ethan Blackwood walked into my shop.It was a rainy Tuesday afternoon. The bell above the door jingled, and I looked up to see a tall, handsome man with sun-streaked hair and warm brown eyes st

  • The Alpha Who Broke His Own Bond   Chapter 5

Lila had gone completely insane trying to get Kael’s attention. She faked contractions three times, pretended to have post-cub depression before the cub was even born, even tried to kill herself by slitting her wrists in the bathroom. Kael never even went to see her. He just sent the healer with a sedative and told her to stop being dramatic. When she dragged all my things out into the Manor courtyard and burned them, Kael had her locked in her room for a week without food. When she spread rumors around the Pack that I had left because I was cheating on him with a rogue, Kael called an emergency Pack meeting and told everyone the truth. He told them about the three betrayals. He told them how he had left me to die in the forest. He told them how he had signed the mating dissolution agreement without even looking at it. And then he told them that if anyone ever said a bad word about me again, they would be banished from the Pack, stripped of their wolf, and left to die in the wild

  • The Alpha Who Broke His Own Bond   Chapter 4

Twelve minutes later, Kael Thorne stormed into Silvercrest Regional Airport.I would not find out until much later, from one of his former guards who had left the Pack after everything collapsed. He told me Kael had collapsed in the airport hall, screaming and clutching his chest as the bond tore through him. He had lain on the cold stone floor for three hours, convulsing, shifting into his massive black wolf mid-stride, while the Pack healers stood around helpless. His wolf howled in agony, echoing through the empty airportWhen he finally came to, the first thing he did was call my phone. It was already disconnected. He had ordered all private planes grounded, all commercial flights delayed, sent armed guards to every gate. But it was too late.My plane was already 30,000 feet in the air.The guard told me Kael had stood on the runway for three hours, staring up at the empty sky, howling until his throat was raw and blood dripped from his jaws. His black fur was matted with sweat
