Remi POV
“Run… get out of here.” Not only was my heart pounding so loud—it felt like it might explode any second. I locked eyes with her, panic rising to my chest, but before I could utter a word, one of the guards grabbed her by the shoulder and yanked her up despite how fragile and shaky she looked. “You can leave now. The maid will handle it,” he snapped, dragging her toward the door. “Wait—” I rushed after her, but the other guard stepped in my way, blocking my path. “That’s enough,” he said coldly. “A new meal will be sent to you.” And just like that, they were gone. The moment the door clicked shut, my knees gave out and I collapsed to the floor. I didn’t care about the food anymore. I didn’t care about the size of the bed or the velvet sheets or how pretty this place looked. I needed to get out of here. After a few minutes had passed, I slowly stood up and walked toward the door. I held the doorknob and twisted it gently. Locked. “Oh God,” I muttered, biting down on my lip to keep from screaming. This couldn’t be happening. This really couldn’t be happening. I slowly backed away from the door, letting out a shaky breath, then I turned to the window. I was on the second floor. It was not too high but still a risky fall. Outside looked quiet. There were no guards or maids in sight. Just trees, a stone path, and beyond the dense fence… freedom. Don’t panic, I told myself. If I could climb down, I could still make it out of here. I rushed to the bed and grabbed the thick velvet sheets. I tied them together the best I could, even as my fingers trembled. I had seen this in a movie once. If it worked for them, it had to work for me. I tied one end to the wooden bedpost and tossed the other out the window. It didn’t reach the ground completely, but I wasn’t in any position to complain. My heart pounded as I climbed onto the windowsill. I didn’t let myself think. One leg over. Then the other. The cold wind was the first to hit me. The night was darker than I expected. Every creak of the sheet made my breath hitch. Don’t look down, Remi. Just go. My arm burned but I was almost there… maybe five feet off the ground when I heard a voice from behind the door. “Check on the girl.” No no no. In a panic I let go. My feet hit the ground hard and I think I twisted my ankle. I didn’t even have time to process the pain as I took off running toward the fence. I forced my way through a narrow gap in the fence, the metal tore a piece of my shirt, and I dashed straight into the forest knowing I would be harder to spot. But just like before, I hadn’t even made it far enough when I heard the same low growl. I didn’t dare look back, but when I risked a glance I saw a massive black wolf with glowing red eyes chasing after me. I screamed and began running faster, but who was I kidding? My legs couldn’t outrun a beast. It leapt and tackled me to the ground. I hit the forest floor hard, dirt filling my mouth and pain bursting through my side. I continued screaming as loud as I could, thrashing helplessly as my mind pressed for the worst. I was going to die. But then… “Leaving without saying goodbye?” I heard the deep voice of a man. I froze. My eyes snapped open and I gasped. Standing above me, shirtless and barefoot, was my supposed rescuer. “How… where…?” I stammered, glancing around for the wolf. “Answer me,” he growled. My head whipped back to him and a shiver went down my spine as I stared back at his now glowing red eyes. “You… it was you. That wolf—” My voice broke, my mind refusing to connect the pieces. He didn’t answer. Instead, he crouched down and grabbed my face roughly. With his face just inches from mine, I could see everything. The way his jaw clenched, the veins in his neck, and the wild look in his eyes. He wasn’t calm and composed like the man who had saved me hours ago. He was panting heavily like a wild animal. “It’s not very nice of you,” he whispered close to my ear, “to try leaving me… without permission.” “I’m sorry,” I found myself trembling. “Please… I just want to go home. Let me go… please… I don’t want…” My words were cut off as his palm cracked across my face before I could blink. “I told you to wait until morning!” he yelled. Pain exploded through my cheek and I tasted blood. I choked on it, spitting it out as my vision blurred. “You disobeyed me,” he snarled, grabbing me by the neck. His fingers, which resembled claws, dug into my skin as he forced my face toward his. My arms flailed weakly. “Please…” “Do you know,” he whispered, “what I do to those who disobey me?” I shook my head, but before I could speak he grabbed my top and ripped the fabric like paper. His gaze swept over me, his finger hooked the strap of my bra and he yanked it off in one snap, leaving me completely exposed. I gasped in horror, trying to cover myself as the cold air hit, but he caught my wrist, forcing it above my head. “Please…” I whimpered, tears streaming down my face, but he chuckled darkly, enjoying my terror. His thumb brushed my nipple roughly and he pinched it hard, causing me to cry out in pain. “I was going to make it easy for you,” he growled, “I drugged your food. But you… you had to piss me off.” “I’m sorry! Please!” I sobbed, covering myself with my other shaking arm, but he caught that too. “It’s too late.” With a snarl, he yanked me up, dragging me like a rag doll. My body scraped against the rough forest floor, every stone and root tearing at my skin. “No more running,” he said coldly. “You’re mine now.” I screamed, kicked, begged but nothing stopped him from pulling me back toward the mansion.Remi PoVI froze as her lips crashed into mine, nibbling softly on my bottom lip. It would’ve been easy to push her away, but it happened so fast and out of nowhere that my brain was having a hard time keeping up.“Wow,” she whispered against my lips. “You taste really good. I can see why everyone’s obsessed with you.”That was supposed to be a compliment, but I didn’t take it as one.For some odd reason, my heart was racing. And just as she was about to pull back, I don’t know what came over me—but I suddenly held her in place and pulled her in for another kiss. She froze for a second, clearly not expecting me to kiss her back. But then she melted into it, even deepening the kiss. Her lips were soft and tasted sweet.I didn’t know why I did it. Maybe because, for a second, I hated the idea of being used again and just wanted to take back control. Or maybe… maybe it was because I could sense the deep sadness behind her eyes, and this was the only way I knew how to offer comfort.Whate
Remi POV“Actually… I wanted to apologize about what happened last time,” she said quietly. “We took things too far, but I swear I didn’t want to get involved.”I said nothing, just stared at her, trying to find a crack in her expression. But she kept her eyes on the ground.“Ember is very controlling. She forced us… even though most of us were against it,” she added. That was obviously no lie, but still—I wasn’t going to trust her.“I know you don’t believe me. I don’t expect you to. But I really am sorry. And to make it up to you…” she rushed over to the corner, pulled out a small box, then stretched it toward me. “Here,” she said.“What’s this?” I asked, eyeing it without taking it.“A gift,” she said simply. “I heard you can’t step out of the mansion premises, so I got you this while I was out. It’s nothing, really. Please accept it.” Her eyes were wide, giving me the most innocent, pleading look. What’s the worst that could happen? I thought, reaching out and taking the box.But
Remi POVHer question completely caught me off guard. I paused in my tracks.“Wh… what do you mean?” I asked, my voice quieter than I intended.Vivian stopped too. Her eyes moved over me from head to toe, like she was trying to figure something out. But why?“It’s just…” she began, sounding a bit unsure. “I’ve noticed that Luna Selene is… nice to you. Not that she’s completely evil or anything, but she never really pays attention to the other courtesans. And…”She hesitated.“…I’ve seen her leaving your room. At night.”My stomach clenched, and my fingers twisted at my sides. How was I supposed to respond to that?I thought they all knew — or at least had some idea — of what went on behind these closed doors. But even if they didn’t, how could I say it out loud?Oh, your Luna comes to my room every night because she’s an obsessed psycho who forces me into sex.Yeah. That’s not something you just say.Not even when it’s the truth.I sucked in my breath and looked away, pretending to fo
Remi POV“Silver kills werewolves?” I muttered, watching as the guards dragged Elias’s lifeless body across the floor, leaving a thick trail of blood behind. My hand was still trembling, remembering what I had just done.“Mhm,” Damon hummed lazily, then reached out and gently patted my hair. “You did good,” he said with that same wicked smile that sent a shiver down my spine. My gaze shifted, landing on Zanye. Then my hand dropped to his. That silver ring.Doesn’t that mean he isn’t a werewolf? I thought, staring a second longer, watching the way the silver caught the light on his finger. Why the hell would a werewolf wear silver? Before I could spiral further, Damon’s fingers curled gently under my chin, tilting my face toward him.“You’re thinking too much,” he said. “I just told you to return to your room.”I blinked up at him, my thoughts still caught somewhere between Elias’s blood and that damn silver ring, but I nodded anyway. He let go of my chin, and without wasting another s
Remi’s POVAfter the party was over and most of the guests had gone back inside, I stayed curled up on the cold floor. When Nikolai stepped forward to help me up, Damon waved his hand dismissively.“She can walk back on her own..”Even though my body ached all over, I took a deep breath and forced myself up, wincing in pain as I slid into the black dress.I glanced back at him as he casually fixed his pants.Disgust twisted in my gut. I cursed under my breath and turned away, walking back toward the mansion, ignoring the stares from the staff lining the hallway.Just as I was rounding the corner, a rough hand grabbed mine and yanked me aside.I gasped, stumbling back, and my back hit the wall hard. Before I could react, my eyes widened seeing it was one of the council members—the same one with silver hair. His eyes burned with lust as he stepped closer, unbuckling his pants like he’d done this a thousand times before.“Give me a quick head,” he said.I blinked, still trying to process
Remi POVI could only stare down at my feet as I was led out of the mansion. The sound of loud music and cheers filled the air, deep laughter mixing in like smoke. My steps became heavy, hesitant. Every movement felt forced. My breathing was shaky, like my own body was resisting what was about to happen.“There she is,” Damon’s voice rang out.The moment he spoke, the crowd quieted, their excitement sinking into a low hum of murmurs. Then I felt his cold hand wrap around my waist, pulling me tightly against him.“We all know there are a lot of restrictions that prevent us from entering the human world,” he began, like he was delivering a speech. Since my face was still covered with a veil, I kept my head down.“For peace, we’ve been trying to blend in with the humans,” Damon continued in a commanding tone. “But what happens… when a human enters our territory?”There was a long pause. Then a deep voice broke through the silence. “Wait—don’t tell me that’s a human?”“Can’t you smell it?
