Remi POV

“Actually… I wanted to apologize about what happened last time,” she said quietly. “We took things too far, but I swear I didn’t want to get involved.”

I said nothing, just stared at her, trying to find a crack in her expression. But she kept her eyes on the ground.

“Ember is very controlling. She forced us… even though most of us were against it,” she added.

That was obviously no lie, but still—I wasn’t going to trust her.

“I know you don’t believe me. I don’t expect you to. But I really am sorry. And to make it up to you…” she rushed over to the corner, pulled out a small box, then stretched it toward me. “Here,” she said.

“What’s this?” I asked, eyeing it without taking it.

“A gift,” she said simply. “I heard you can’t step out of the mansion premises, so I got you this while I was out. It’s nothing, really. Please accept it.” Her eyes were wide, giving me the most innocent, pleading look.

What’s the worst that could happen? I thought, reaching out and taking the box.
