“Ok, let’s just have this dance.” I sighed, and deep down, I hoped I wouldn’t regret it.

A wide smile emerged on David’s face, and he extended his hand for me to take. Reluctantly, I took it, following his lead to the center of the room, where we had more space to dance.

He asked Alexa to play something from his list, and a song from Lady Gaga started playing. [Remember us this way]

I’d heard it before, and I knew her voice. It was characteristic.

I placed my left hand on his shoulder and the right on his hand, and I started following his lead. It’s been more than twenty-two years since we last danced, but it felt like it was yesterday. Our bodies worked in sync and mine knew how to follow each step, how to react to each tug or pull. As the song went on and I was listening to the lyrics, I understood why he had picked it.
