Elora's POV

Crossing my legs over his, I wrapped my arms around Zeke's neck as I leaned in, placing a kiss.

He responded, deepening the kiss.

In a few seconds, I broke free, gasping for breath. I placed his hands on my butt chicks and was about to continue from where I stopped when he evaded my lips, standing up.

It took all my strength to stop myself from falling.

"Is anything wrong?" I asked, confused.

He shook his head. "I'm sorry Elora, but I can't."

"Can't what?"

"I can't do it!" He snapped. Anger flickered across his face for a second. "I'm sorry, it's just that things have changed. I mean, you have changed."

I arched my brow. "I still don't get you, Zeke. What are you talking about?"

He chuckled slightly, racking his hair.

"I'm sure you know. I mean look at you—" He gestured towards my body. "You aren't the way you used to be. You are a lot chubbier now, and I feel weird touching you."

I snickered, blinking back the tears that threatened to leave my eyes.

"This is because of that Omega, right?" I said, pointing to a corner of our living room. But I'm sure he knew who I was talking about. "It's because of Charlotte, right?"

Zeke frowned, but I didn't care. I wasn't done.

"Because your so-called fated mate is a young, beautiful girl in her late twenties with a perfect and slender figure, while I'm an old hag in her mind thirties with an ugly, plump figure, right?"

Those words snapped something in him.

He took long strides towards me, his eyes holding nothing but anger.

"That's enough, Elora. Stop whining like a kid," He growled. "I don't have anything to do with Charlotte anymore, so leave her out of this and stop throwing tantrums." He smirked. "Or do you want us to talk about that night again?"

I couldn't believe it. He was making it look like it was all my fault.

Well, it was for trying to help him do his laundry after he said he had an event to attend and couldn't come home. But what I didn't see coming was an envelope in one of his jackets addressed to "The One I Love."

I was both shocked and moved. But then, it wasn't my birthday, and our anniversary was far gone.

That made me suspicious.

I opened the envelope, and what I saw inside tore my heart into two.

They were pictures of Zeke with a blonde girl inside and a note with words he had never said—or written—to me.

Zeke and I had been married for seven years, but yet the feelings expressed through the letter and pictures are ones our marriage has always been void of.

It made me both hurt and sick. So I did something I never imagined I would ever do. I dressed up and headed up to the place he had mentioned. And to make it all worse, there she was, sitting next to him.

She had her hand in his and that made my blood boil. I took a glass from a table in front of me, strolled over to theirs, and splashed it on her.

I still remember that day like it was just an hour ago. It's not like I was given a choice. A permanent reminder was imprinted right above my brow.

"What the f*ck?!" One of Zeke's friends had yelled.

He picked up a cup and slammed into my head.

But I have no right to blame him. He didn't know I was Zeke's wife. None of them knew.

Zeke had proposed we keep it a secret to avoid having awkward moments at work.

Suddenly, Zeke turned towards the stairs, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Where the heck are you headed to?" I asked, my gaze following him.

"My room, woman," He muttered without glancing back at me. "Since you would rather dwell in the past and argue than spend time with me, then I would rather head to my room and take a long, peaceful nap."

Before I could say anything else, his back was nowhere to be seen—disappearing into a corner.

I couldn't help but laugh as I headed for my room, slowly, recalling the rest of that night—especially the words he said to me.

He had pulled me out of the bar and had taken me to a corner.

"What are you doing here, Elora?"

I didn't know what to say. I just threw the letter and pictures at him. They fell to the ground, his eyes darting towards each of them.

"I can explain. It's not what you think," He said.

"Then who is she?" I asked, tears finally streaming down my eyes. "Why were the two of you together?" I picked up a picture, holding it for him to see. "And what do these mean?"

He was silent at first, before finally speaking up.

"She is my fated mate."

The words seemed to have sucked out the air in my lungs. I had to hold the wall next to me in order to keep myself from falling.

"So you want her?" The words escaped my lips before I could think.

He shook his head, reaching for my hands.

"No baby, but I don't know how to explain it all to you—" A smile tugged the corners of his lips. "What I have for her is something I have never felt for anyone before. It's something beyond the physical. But believe me, it's just something platonic, nothing more. I'm sure you know this. Our mate bond can testify."

I wasn't sure how I looked at that moment, but my insides felt sick. Though he was right. If he had slept with her, then our mate bond would have made me feel an unimaginable pain

My lips parted, but before I could say anything, Zeke closed the gap between us, kissing me.

When I pushed him away, he held my hand tightly.

"Let's go home, baby. That's what you want right?" He said, pulling me away. "You don't have to go in there and embarrass me again. I'll always be there for you from now on."

He did keep his words—at least a part of it. He stopped going for his usual events, and stayed at home more.

Yet, with both of us sleeping in different rooms and in the same house, I still can't help but feel heart-aching alone.

Lloyd's POV“Hey, what's wrong?” I leaned over her. “Are you okay?”Another scream shot through her and she wriggled on the bed, eyes tightly shut, skin turning as red as a tomato. Raw, unfiltered, coming out like it scraped against bone. When my brain comprehended what was going on, I rose up to my feet so quick I knocked over the lampstand.“My chest, ahh!”She curled into a ball, her hand digging into the right side of her chest. Veins appeared on her forehead and neck, and she folded back, her hands so tight that I thought she might rip her heart out.“Lena! Get water,” I cried out with a loud growl. In the other room, chaos ensues. I heard a stool being knocked over. Another hiss. Everyone was on the run. Every omega was running.Moments later, Lena barrelled through, hands holding a glass of water, a few omegas running behind her. She hurried towards us, her face a real picture of horror. “Please drink, Elora,” Lena presented the glass. I grabbed Elora and turned her over

  • The Alpha's Beta: Once Rejected, Now Desired   216_Safety in a Safehouse

Elora's POVThe safehouse was almost as comfortable and sophisticated as the Alpha house. I opened my eyes to find myself in a grand bedroom with no windows. The air around me was crisp and dry, the air conditioning system tucked away in a corner. I drew in a breath as the memories of the other day flooded back to me. Yesterday evening went rough. The door ahead swung open softly and Lloyd walked in, closing the door with a small click, one hand holding a box. “Hey,” he echoed as our eyes met. “You're up.”I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through from my abdomen through my back, forcing a groan out of me. Lloyd was at my side in an instant, pushing gently back to the bed and caressing my cheek. “Hey, relax,” he said. “You knocked yourself out this morning.”“I did?”“Guess you were too exhausted,” he pooped the box with him open and brought out medical supplies. “You didn't bleed much though. I didn't think I had blood loss.”“Medical supplies,” I snickered as he arrang

Lloyd's POVI flipped my eyes open and instinctively, my eyes landed on the alarm clock on my lampstand, and then it occurred to me. I'd only slept for two hours. I turned this way and that way, willing sleep to come to me, all in vain. My eyes went clear, and sleep escaped from me like a wet bar of soap. The day replayed in my head. How it was Zack Biko that walked through those restaurant doors and how Xavier had helped me hold back my rage. Forcing him to talk that night was no small feat—the hoodlum had sworn not to reveal anything, and we had to force him to spill. Zack gave me the image of a con man, and for a moment I wondered if all he revealed to us was actually true. For all I know, he could be lying. He did it before, and when opportunity presented itself to him, he ran away.If he lied at that moment, when he could have chosen to repair what was left of our deceptive friendship, what's stopping him from doing it again? Zack was not only bold, he was a man who had th

Elora's POVMy heart stopped. Switches clicked and a handful of torchlights pointed at me, some on my temple, others behind me. I went still, fingers still on the track pad, jaw tightening, my posture going rigid. “Show your face!” A male voice cried. My brain raked for something to do right now, but nothing could suffice. My surroundings—a dark room with a handful of torchlight beams blurred for a moment before it cleared, and still I was still out of action plan.Who were these people?A click echoed in the room and white light flooded the dark room, making the torchlight beams insignificant. Slowly, I stood up, but I refused to turn.“Well, well,” another masculine voice laughed hoarsely. “If it's not the boss’s mate. What a coincidence?”Slowly, I turned around to meet the face of the person talking and my chest tightened. There were more than twenty people in the room right now who formed a semi circle around me, pinning me with hot glares. In the center of the circle was

Elora's POVBefore I got to the garage, running footsteps approached me and Lloyd emerged, blocking my path. “Listen, Elora,” he was panting. “You can't go looking for your husband now. Now is a bad time.”“What makes it a bad time?” I cocked a brow at him.He spread his arms. “Isn't it obvious? It's late.”“Late?” I snickered. “This is a matter of utmost importance. That fool needs to be called out.”“I'm not saying he shouldn't be,” Lloyd interjected. “I'm saying you can do it tomorrow.”“Tomorrow can wait. I have to take care of this tonight,” I tried to walk past, but Lloyd blocked me again. I looked past my shoulders to see Lena, Davina and Xavier standing at a respectable distance, watching us.“I won't let you risk your life, Elora,” Lloyd muttered.“Don't you get it?!” I cried. “This guy's living in a house I bought with money! Before I abandoned him to join the beta force, I worked three jobs to hold the family together! I lost my child! And you want me to let it slide?! O

Lloyd's POV“Looks like your friend’s intel was correct,” I smirked at Elora. She walked down the stairs slowly, her gaze pinned on Zack till she arrived at the foot of the stairs. Zack blinked. “So, you’ve been working with my husband all this time?” She asked him.He closed his eyes, letting his head fall. She looked up at me and the others. “I can’t believe this.”“Told Lloyd the same thing. It was hard to imagine that the redhead was pulling the strings all this time.” Lena said.Elora blinked. “Wait, you mean my—” She stopped herself before adding “Zeke?”“In the flesh,” I said. “Zack here, turned out to be one of his minions. His rich facade was just to cover the real guy.”“He said your mate is rich,” Xavier said. “And I can understand if he’s hiding it. Money made through sorcery isn’t exactly something you want your mate to know.”Elora stormed past us. “I need to talk to that bastard.”I grabbed her wrist, gripped hard, pulling her back, and her gaze met mine. “That is th
