The vibrant walls of Nina’s beautiful room seemed to press closer, suddenly oppressive and loud. My breathing felt too loud in the silence.

I crossed my arms again, a futile attempt to hold myself together, forcing my voice not to shake as I glared at her across the space.

"I don't need your help," I insisted, the words feeling thin and weak even to my own ears. "Or your protection. How can a Gamma protect an Alpha?"

I didn’t say that to spite her. I just wanted her to leave me alone. Having a bond with Alec was disastrous enough. I didn’t want to make alliances that would give me a guilty conscience and soften my revenge.

But Nina’s response came with a knowing smile, the kind that irritated more than it comforted, because it suggested she understood things about me that I didn’t understand myself.

"You need help," she said simply. "Whether you admit it or not."

My nails dug deeper into the flesh of my arms. A hot frustration rose in my throat. "How could you possibly know?" I

MarissaThe underwater lamp rippled across the pool’s surface as I walked past. Justin had just dropped me off outside the lounge, and I had begged him not to come in with me. I couldn’t handle more drama; my life already had enough of it.The poolside was full of people. Some swam laps, some sat at the edge, and others drifted without purpose. A couple stood chest-deep in the water, talking quietly, while another person was shouting across the pool at someone who ignored him.Hector sat at the edge of the pool with his legs in the water, scrolling through his phone. The glow lit up his wet face. When he looked up and noticed me, he smiled, though I could tell he was uneasy. I sat beside him, and he moved a can of soda aside to make space. Our legs hung in the water, our toes brushing the surface.“I told you,” I said quietly, “you don’t need to babysit me anymore. Your best friend’s back. Go play hero with him.”He gave a short laugh. “Alan doesn’t control me. And believe it or not,

JustinMy patience was wearing thin as I waited for Justine to return from the club. It was already past 10:30 in the morning. When I got home last night, the housekeeper said she’d been gone for hours.I sat in the upstairs living area, my gaze drifting to the gift box on the table beside me. Justine wasn’t the type to be won over by flashy gestures, but I knew her well enough to pick out things she couldn’t resist. Inside the box was a pair of designer sunglasses she’d been eyeing, a high-end headset for her DJ sets, and a handwritten apology note. I wasn’t sure if she'd appreciate the last one, but I’d written it anyway. It was rare for me to admit I was wrong. But she was my twin and one of the few people who had always loved me unconditionally. And now, thanks to my own reckless choices, I had hurt her. I didn’t have a lot of people in my corner. I wasn’t about to let pride destroy the one person who truly got me.Just as I was about to give up, I heard her voice downstairs, givi

MarissaSilence dropped over the room like a bomb, so heavy it seemed to press against my eardrums. My tongue was thick and useless in my mouth. Heat crept up the back of my neck, and my heartbeat rattled in my chest. I searched for words—any words—but my mind had gone blank. My worst fear had just come true, and there was no taking it back.Justin’s lips flattened into a hard line; the smugness that had been there moments ago vanished. His sister’s mouth hung open as she tried to process what she was seeing. She took a hesitant step back, her fingers curling into the fabric of her denim shirt. Pure horror passed over her face. Her gaze bounced restlessly between us, as if she were watching a movie she wished she could turn off.“I want to believe what I just saw isn’t what I think it is,” she said, her voice trembling with restrained fury.Justin dragged a hand down his face and moved toward her. “Justine, it’s not—”“Are you serious right now?” she snapped, cutting him off. Her voic

JustinThe cancer of hate was growing inside me. My blood boiled with the need for revenge.Sean would be his own undoing, but I was more than willing to help. His endless provocations burned holes through my self-control. He had shown me, time and again, that he would never stand by my side. And when I became king, he would be the first to go.I was still seething when I heard Marissa’s calm voice followed by Sean’s grating laughter. The sound made my jaw clench.I hated that my protective instinct toward Marissa had grown into something more possessive. But I couldn't stop it.I moved to the doorway and leaned against the frame, keeping myself hidden from their view. She was handling him beautifully.I watched, silent and struck, as she shredded him with nothing more than her wit. She was defending me and humbling him with such effortless grace, it stole the breath from my lungs. Sean tried to assert himself, maybe hoping his ego would do the work for him, but he was unraveling with

MarissaThe office was buzzing. Justin was racing to meet a deadline, and the energy in the executive wing was chaotic. Whenever he was in this mode, trying to help was pointless. He barely spoke all morning, aside from the occasional request delivered in a clipped tone.I didn’t mind the silence. I welcomed it. The less I had to interact with him, the easier it was to pretend that everything between us was still intact. Besides, I couldn’t keep throwing myself at him like some desperate, sex-starved fool. So, I buried myself in the stack of letters assigned to me. Nothing interesting. Until my fingers paused on one envelope that immediately stood out.It bore a strange seal. The bold red and white colors sent a warning straight to my gut. And it was addressed directly to Justin.I glanced toward Justin’s office. The door stood wide open, and he was busy on a call. Without hesitation, I slipped the letter under a pile of other envelopes. To The Firstborn of the Crown, Lord Justin,Thi

MarissaJustine was about to drop me off when the sound of footsteps on the stairs made both of us look up.Justin emerged, shirtless, in nothing but a pair of khaki shorts that hung low on his hips, and I swear—my soul flatlined. His lean muscles flexed with each step like he was handcrafted in a lab and then cursed with that careless kind of beauty that didn’t even try. He glanced up and caught me staring, and I had to blink and look away before I publicly embarrassed myself.Justine squinted at him. “Shouldn’t you be... lying down or something? I thought you were half-dead earlier.”“I’m fine now,” he said, with a casual shrug. He pulled a white T-shirt over his head, the fabric clinging briefly to the ridges of his abdomen before falling into place. “Let me drop her off. I need to pick something up anyway. It’s on the way.”Justine looked between the two of us, clearly confused—and maybe a little annoyed. “It’s fine. I'll drop her off.”“I’ll take her,” he said simply, jingling h
