Justine was about to drop me off when the sound of footsteps on the stairs made both of us look up.

Justin emerged, shirtless, in nothing but a pair of khaki shorts that hung low on his hips, and I swear—my soul flatlined. His lean muscles flexed with each step like he was handcrafted in a lab and then cursed with that careless kind of beauty that didn’t even try.

He glanced up and caught me staring, and I had to blink and look away before I publicly embarrassed myself.

Justine squinted at him. “Shouldn’t you be... lying down or something? I thought you were half-dead earlier.”

“I’m fine now,” he said, with a casual shrug. He pulled a white T-shirt over his head, the fabric clinging briefly to the ridges of his abdomen before falling into place. “Let me drop her off. I need to pick something up anyway. It’s on the way.”

Justine looked between the two of us, clearly confused—and maybe a little annoyed. “It’s fine. I'll drop her off.”

“I’ll take her,” he said simply, jingling h

Vanessa’s back hit the cold wall, hard enough to sting. The music from the induction hall bled faintly through the thick doors down the hall. Her breath came out in broken bursts.Three princes. Staring at her like she was prey that had wandered into the wrong cage. Two had called her their mate. Two brothers lusting for her sounded like a death sentence. Wesley’s eyes had changed into molten gold, burning with the need to claim her. He stepped closer, his tone soft in a way that didn’t match the wildness in his eyes. “ Breathe darling, listen to my wolf calling for yours. “Vanessa shook her head. Her tears spilled freely. “Please—let me go—”Her plea was muffled as his palm covered her mouth. She clawed at his wrist, but he didn’t flinch. Her heart convulsed with panic. Then his brother, Brad growled, emitting his alpha aura. His hand yanked Wesley’s away from her mouth with a strength that sent pain shooting up her jaw.“Back the fuck off, Wesley. She’s mine.”Wesley blinked, d

MarissaThe wind howled across the dock and tore at my jacket like it wanted to rip me apart. Waves slammed against the rocks and sprayed salt into my face.I stood next to Queen Mallory with my boots sinking into the wet sand. Her hand gripped my arm so tightly it hurt. The elders and guards surrounded us and their lanterns cast shaky beams over the dark water.Every moment stretched into eternity. A splash broke the waves’ rhythm. I screamed at the top of my lungs without moving closer. My eyes locked on a figure in the water. It was Justin. His body floated limp and pale under the moonlight.Queen Mallory’s sob shattered the air. Tears streamed down her face as she lurched forward.“No, my son, no!”Raw grief twisted her voice. The elders shouted orders and guards splashed into the shallows. Their boots churned the water as they dragged Justin to shore. Pain tore through me and I screamed again. My throat burned. He was gone. The curse had killed him.I felt my own life fading like

JustinMy descent ended with a thud that jarred my bones. The bottom of the pit opened into a maze-like tunnel and stone walls pressed in close. The darkness wrapped around me. I landed in a crouch and my knees buckled. A chill swept over me but I pushed up and steadied myself.Wailing echoed from somewhere ahead. A woman's cry twisted with pain and rage. Then a voice whispered in my ear. "Go forward. Don't look back."Fear should have gripped me but it vanished like smoke. Hunger replaced it. Hunger for freedom and hate for my enemies. My will felt foreign, like something ancient drove me. The wailing grew louder and more disturbing. A banshee's scream that scraped my nerves.I moved swiftly and the dagger's weight in my pocket grounded me. Sweat beaded on my forehead despite the cold air. The tunnel widened into another chamber. Still water stretched endless before me. No ripples, no light. I knew then I had crossed into a realm beyond mortal rules. To my left a soft glow appeared.

MarissaThe wind tore at my jacket and whipped my hair across my face as we stepped out of the hotel. My boots hit the pavement, each step echoing the fear knotting my stomach. One of the elders, Kael, had come to pick us up. He said we needed to get to the dock where anyone who survived the forest and the ancestral sea would wash up.Queen Mallory sat beside me in the back seat. Her hands twisted together in her lap. I could feel her fear radiating like heat. My own terror mirrored it and made my chest tight. Justin was out there fighting for his life and I couldn’t move past the thought that he might not come back. The drive to the dock felt endless. Rain streaked the windows and blurred the caliphate’s glowing ruins outside.Nobody spoke. When we arrived, the sea roared in the distance and waves slapped the rocky shore like angry hands. We climbed out and the wind pushed me back. I steadied myself against the SUV. The elders and the others who had gone with Justin stood near the wa

JustinMy digital watch glowed at 10:30 PM as we stepped away from the caliphate’s edge. The city’s lights faded behind us and the forest loomed ahead.Elder Logan led with his staff tapping the ground in a steady rhythm. The others stayed close behind me and their lanterns swung with each step. My backpack pulled at my shoulders and the silver dagger’s weight pressed against my hip. Sweat already coated my skin and clung to my shirt in the chilly northern air.Logan glanced over his shoulder. “Justin, you’re gonna see some weird shit in here. Otherworldly stuff that doesn’t play nice. Keep your head on straight and don’t let it spook you.”I forced a grin despite the fear curling in my gut like a snake. “Awesome. So it’s like a fucked-up safari. If a ghost pops up I’ll ask it for a selfie.”The elders and healers laughed and the sound cut through the heavy air. It was a weak joke but it loosened the knot of dread we all carried. Inside I was scared shitless. This wasn’t just a trek.
