THE APOLOGY

Marcus halted the car with a hand over his face, took a long breath, and opened his mouth to finally squeeze out an apology, but the unexpected look on her face stopped him.

"Alessia, please look at me. That was not my intention." Marcus quickly corrected his statements after realising what he had just said.

"No, I understand. You despise humans, including me. Even if they're wrong, you'll always choose your pack members over me." Alessia interrupted him.

"I swear it was only a slip of the tongue. None of those words were intended in any way. My pack, including you, is very important to me." He quickly shifted his gaze to her.

" How do I know for certain? How can I trust someone who doesn't believe in me? Marcus, you told me to leave. I begged you to trust me, but all you did was turn your back on me." Despite the fact that she knew Marcus must have heard her voice crack when she mentioned his lack of trust in her, she gulped and continued, ignoring the impulse to release a few tears
