The intense terror hanging in the air so much delighted my Wolf as I faced the outlanders that attempted to invade our camp. The outlanders are rouge wolves from another wolf pack. Of recent, they have been invading our pack and have failed continuously in taking control.
As I approached the fight scene, I pounced on the first outlander I spotted and the ground welcomed his body. The crimson blood dripping from my claws surely sent the message to the surviving duo that I am not to reckon with.
‘’ I don’t have time for this, finish them off! That would send a message to others that dare to invade our pack”, I voiced, boiling with so much rage inside of me.
"Yes Alpha." my combatants responded as I sprinted off.
While bolting across the forest, I couldn’t help but let my mind drift to the memories I had left of my family… of the time I didn’t have all the responsibilities of an Alpha on my shoulders. The smile my parents shared as they watched Lilian and I play by the lakeside. Now all that’s left is an aching pain and a dying sister. Having my revenge by killing Zerx apparently didn’t take away the pain of losing the people I cherish the most in this world.
My combatants had no need for me, they shouldn’t have signalled for my assistance, and I shouldn’t have left her side. Lily, my sister was in pain and I could feel her pain from miles. Every passing day seems to be drawing her closer to her grave and it kills me to watch her go through this. It should have been me, but she in her benevolence took the hit and shielded me from Zerx’s attack. She is the reason I am alive and I, for her impending death.
Someone had to stop Zerx, he was a selfish Alpha that killed every high-ranking wolf to garner power for himself. He was vicious and uncontrollable and if he was not challenged, there would have been nothing left of our clan.
I have tried every possible means to save Lily but to no avail. I have consulted all salutaries and none seem to have a portion that could heal her. Zerx got hold of a magical silvery weapon which he used to kill other werewolves to garner more power for himself. The weapon vanished as he died leaving us with no hope of finding its origin or an antidote.
I long for the days when we would all be together but those days are implausible. My family were the most important people in my life but now, it seems like the only family I’ve got left now is my clan. As each day comes, I grow more vicious than I already was. With Lily dying, my fury knows no bounds.
I made my way to our home situated on the hill which was slightly bigger than the rest of the houses scattered around the hill. As I headed to her room, I could feel her radiance from the entrance connecting to her room. Despite the fact that she was in pain, she welcomed me with a warm smile.
“Hello brother” she chuckled and added “You know if you smile often, you wouldn’t be that scary”
“Hi Lily” I responded with a brief smile followed by a heavy heave.
“You’ve already gotten accustomed to carrying the weight of your clan on your shoulders, you need to take care of yourself too you know?”
“Apparently” I replied while feeling the roughness of my chin.
“You know what I mean Tyler, you need to find your mate soon, you need to find love to numb the deep ache you feel right here,” she said placing her frail hand on my chest.
I couldn’t act tough with her, I broke down and sobbed holding her a little too tight, not wanting to let her go.
“Tyler...”
“I have you, and I am not planning on losing you anytime soon, my mate can wait. You and this clan are what’s important to me right now.”
“Promise me you will find your mate, I hate to see you like this,” she said smiling softly
“Once you promise to get better” I replied planting a soft kiss on her forehead.
Lily is the only being to see me like this, she alone knew me as Tyler and not Zerx’s killer and I cherished every moment with her.
“You know Mum and Dad were very much in love with each other, they shared a bond that was unbreakable.”
“Yeah the love they shared was their weakness, it was what got them killed” I added, regretting the last part.
“You of all persons should know that isn’t true Tee” Lily retorted. I could feel the discomfort I caused her by saying what was false about my parents and I decided to take my leave.
“Get some rest, Lily, I will make sure to send one salutary your way to help numb the pain,” I said.
With that, I left to meet up with the combatants at the boundary. Alex, my next in command had sent words that other outlanders didn’t take the killing of their pack members well so they regrouped for a vicious attack. As I made my way to them, my wolf took charge and I sprinted towards them. My eyes glowed red while I pounced on the first unfortunate wolf. At this time, I had shape-shifted fully to my wolf Authur. He was huge, black and very intimidating. I spotted a silver wolf sprinting towards me judging from the speed it used, it was a Delta wolf. One of the fastest wolves to ever exist. Despite her speed, she was no match for my wolf’s agility and strength. I wasted no time and delivered a fatal blow to her jaw sending her a few miles back. As at this time the rest of my warriors had arrived and we finished them off.
After the fight, I left Alex in charge to get more intel concerning these attacks as they were becoming too frequent. I sprinted toward the lake to cool off and I shifted back to my human form mid-air.
I couldn’t help but notice the air felt different making my wolf be on alert. As I made for the shoreline, the commotion coming from the lake piqued my interest and I advanced stealthily ready to pounce. As I inched closer to the shoreline, a fragile being collided with me, it was Kaya Daygon, the pack's hermit. I never really understood her but I could feel a storm steering inside of her which contrasted with her sickly figure.
As I stared at her, I couldn’t help but notice fingerprints on her neck suggesting that the commotion coming from the lake involved her.
“Shit!” stated one of the Betas in the lake causing me to peel my eyes off her and stare in their direction.
"I-I'm s-sorry." She stated and scurried off. Her voice sounded rather hoarse giving the implication that her head was forcefully submerged underwater for a long time.
My eyes glowed red instantly, my wolf seemed to be very agitated as I narrowed my eyes at them. Fear radiated from them and everywhere was dead silent.
They made for the shoreline and stood before me with their heads facing downward like lost puppies.
“Our Clan is under attack while you Betas galivant around instead of being useful” I seethed
" we're sorry Alpha" Luta stated.
“Yeah. We’re sorry Alpha” The other two chimed in.
I didn’t need many words to send a stern message around, my wolves understood what punishment awaited them when found in the wrong.
"If this happens again, you wouldn’t come out pretty." I spat as I glared at them.
My wolf was so agitated I had to keep my cool so as not to shapeshift in front of the trio, that would have frightened them. I didn’t understand the reason behind this unease so I let myself shapeshift into a wolf once I left them. I sprinted along the shoreline enjoying the feel of the wind on my fur. I hunted to keep my wolf hinged and as I did, the thought of Kaya Daygon kept infiltrating my mind for some reasons unknown to me.
Kaya’s POV“Happy Birthday to you,Happy Birthday to You,Happy Birthday to dear Sara….Happy birthday to you”The sing-song voices of a group of people echoed in the open field as they wished the tall blonde a happy birthday. A handsome brunette stood beside holding her by the waist and the couple seemed to be caught up in their world. He bent to whisper something into her ear causing her to flush and he throw his head back in a booming laughter of delight.Sara had found her mate right before she came of age, most of the pack members within the age of eighteen had found their mates. I could feel the happiness in the air and sadly I couldn’t associate with it.Bile rose up in my throat as I couldn’t recall any childhood memory of my birthday celebrated or even getting a birthday cake and wishes. My eighteenth birthday was yesterday and life was still unkind to me. The hopes of my father showing up on my birthday had dwindled at this point. I was utterly alone. As I watched the displa
Tyler’s PovI laid on my Alaskan king bed finding it really hard to fall asleep. The sound of nature bursting outside my cabin did little in calming my frazzled nerves. I shut my eyes in an attempt to sleep and failed utterly. It was that zesty smell I couldn’t get off my mind. As I tossed to stare at the rustic light fixture hanging in the centre of the ceiling, my wolf became very jittery for some reason relatable to that zesty scent.Ever since I bumped into Kaya by the lake, her scent lingered in the air, I could almost feel her delicate skin brush mine. Thoughts about Kaya seemed to make my wolf agitated. Was it because of her? Of the fact that she appeared miserable? My wolf grew more agitated, urging me to go for a run. I groaned, got out of bed, put on suitable clothing and headed towards Lily’s room.I knocked lightly on her door, waited a little while and opened it slightly. I noticed she was fast asleep but she appeared unsettled. I opened the door and walked in towards her
Kaya's Pov"Do something." Tyler’s voice boomed.I felt the salutary inch towards me to examine me. I was too weak to move, my muscled screamed out of fatigue and pain.“Say something” Tyler’s voice grew impatient."Alpha, you need to back up a little,” the salutary talked tenderly, expressing himself shrewdly.I felt the salutary’s hands on my neck causing me to groan in pain.In an instant, Tyler was beside me and his emotions were all over the place. I could sense that he was angry, worried and frightened…?.“What do you think you are doing” Tyler’s voice boomed“I am helping, I promise,” voiced the salutary wobbly. The salutary pulled my cloth off and mentioned something about hypothermia. He checked my pulse and later proceeded to place a soft silicone medical sensor on my body to examine me properly.I could sense the mix of emotions in the air, Tyler’s emotions. It was a mix of impatience laced with anger and at the same time what seemed like concern.“Was he concerned about me
Kaya's PovEvery attempt to make a friend in the pack was futile and I would blame this on the rumour about my birth and what happened on that day. Many believed I was a curse and refused to associate with me or even help me when I was ill-treated. In years, I've never felt safe enough to approach a pack member. Stupidly, I had made a friend a while back, only to discover that it was all a hoax and she was merely acting. Luta, Jeremy and Danni were all successful in making everyone dislike me. As a result, I've never spoken to anyone since then because I feared the situation would repeat itself. Especially now that the Alpa seems to care about me.Can I really rely on him not to harm me the way his pack has?"Get out," his wolf hissed, his eyes riveted on me as he roared at the doctor. Oslo sprinted out of the room as fast as his legs could carry him. I would do the same safe for my current situation. We all knew that an angry alpha is bad news. Was he upset with me? I looked down, u
Kaya’s PovThere is truly no place like home I mumbled heaving a sign of relief as Tyler unlocked my door to let us in. Through the window, I could see the vibrant glow of a full moon. The favourite feature of my room is the window; it was a regular picture window but I had the most spectacular view of Meadow Lake. It gave the room a surreal feel. Every evening when I stare at the moon, I ponder on the existence of the moon goddess, Was she even real or was she a myth? I understand that it's in our werewolf nature to have faith in her, but I couldn't help but wonder if she was aware of me or what I was going through. I've been used to living alone all my life. After leaving foster care when I came of age, I was assigned a room where I’ve lived alone for a pretty long time because no one wanted to be assigned the same room I was in and frankly I enjoyed having my own space where I felt safe after a difficult day. Aside from the locket my mum gifted me; my room was the other thing t
Tyler’s POVA small picture window came into view when I opened my eyes. Memories of yesterday’s event came flooding back in.“Kaya” My wolf voice resonated in my mind jolting me to turn towards her.Her skin was golden from the sunbeams that came in through the window giving her an otherworldly beauty. My fingers traced the outline of her oval-shaped face itching to touch her chapped full lips. We were so close to the point that I could see the freckles underneath her eyelash. I swelled up inside from being this close to see this side of her, a side of her I am sure not may have seen. We fit so perfectly and I craved to know every bit of her; her past, her pain, her source of happiness as well as her future.“Mine” My wolf echoed in my mind. She was indeed alluring. In a moment, her eyes fluttered open revealing the most striking green eyes which adjusted to the light and caught me staring. A glimmer of fear appeared on her face for a few seconds which later settled into shyness. I n
Kaya's povI stared at the ceiling as I pondered on the things going on in my life at the moment. It all seemed to move too fast for me. No doubt I had always wished for a protector, someone I could rely on, someone I could relate with but all these felt too unreal.Just a week ago, I was the Trio’s punching bag, the pack's weirdo but now, I am supposedly the Alpha’s mate. His touch made my skin feel alive, I have never felt this strange but I had to decide not to give in to him. All I know is that he could abandon me any instant, I mean why on earth would an Alpha choose me? I turned to the wall where the countdown to my elopement was marked and took a deep breath. That was it, I had to run away. Away from all of this, from the hassle, I had to be strong for me.A light knock on the door brought me back to reality, it was Tyler. I asked him to come in and adjusted to a sitting position. There was something different about the air around him. It felt bizarre.“Mind if I sit?” He asked
Tyler’s POV “I can’t be your mate, Tyler, I am not perfect for you.” Kaya’s words struck my very core. It was surprising how her words infuriated me and at the same time made me long to protect her. The surge of emotions I felt was frustrating, I needed to be around someone who cared for me to help me think straight so I headed home. As I reached, I walked up the stairs towards Lily's room, knocked lightly on the door to announce my presence and opened it. Lily was by the window, painting a picture of the pack. She turned around and spotted me and furrowed her eyebrows. "Let me guess, another attack by the outlanders" she speculated. " Yes," I replied her making sure to conceal the emotional turmoil I was going through. "What else is bothering you Tyler? she asked seeing through the facade. "I could tell you are brooding," Lily added. "Yeah… the strangest thing happened, I found my mate." Lily stared at my face as I told her that I had found my mate. “Tyler, that’s great news
