Chapter 0006

I knew that I had no hope in this fight because I was still feeling the affects of the wolfsbane and pretty soon I realized that my father wasn’t by my side anymore. He had been unintentionally holding me up when he had a hold of my arm, and when he left I had to lean on the table that was right beside his officiant.

Everyone started jumping from their seats, scattering everywhere. The warriors shifted so they could take on the attack and the woman, children and elderly tried to get somewhere safe.

I looked around behind me and there were thousands of people running in all different directions. I knew that this was one wedding that was going to be talked about for a really long time.

And that’s when I saw my father. He was running into the packhouse and shutting the doors. He wasn’t letting anyone inside and the vulnerable needed to take care of themselves.

Ethan’s warriors started running straight into the crowd, but I noticed that they weren’t attacking the unshifted. The vulnerable. They were attacking the warriors that were among the crowd. And they all ran past me without even considering me a threat.

Even though I was holding on to the small table where the officiant had been standing I could feel my legs getting weaker and I was about to fall to the ground when I felt some strong arms around my waist. I didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. Ryker was always there for me.

He wasn’t fighting against Ethan’s pack and he wasn’t helping dad at all. He was there for me and me alone.

Dad’s warriors, on the other hand, didn't seem to care who they hurt. I started yelling at Ryker to help the innocent get to safety. There’s a shelter under the gym at the high school.

“Summer. I’ve never left your side before. I'm sure as hell not going to leave you now.” Ryker insisted.

Ethan’s wolf stopped as he passed me and he nodded his head at me and Ryker, so that’s how I knew that it was him.

He then ran, head on into the battle and I stood there watching him. His every move. His size, his beauty, his grace, considering he was such a large wolf.

And I was now getting a first hand look at why he was considered one of the most powerful and dangerous packs in the world.

Dad was a sadistic bastard, but Ethan was organised and they were strong and they knew how to fight better than I had ever seen before.

I was in awe at watching them and it didn’t take long for dad’s warriors to thin out. Not many bodies had been lying around, so they weren’t dead. They were fleeing.

“I told you that he would make it.” Ryker leaned down and whispered to me.

I guess they did know a thing or two about self preservation.

I saw that James was standing off to the side screaming at his warriors. Telling them to fight, to stand their ground.

And that’s when Ethan’s eyes landed on James. He was still in human form and Ryker had managed to pull me over to a chair to sit me down.

Ethan stopped during the fight once his eyes fixed on James and I heard him growl from where I was standing.

Ethan started stalking towards James and James hadn’t even noticed yet. I could practically feel the anger and hatred radiating off of Ethan from across the yard while he was stalking towards James.

By the time James spotted him, Ethan was way too close for comfort.

James’ canines and claws started to elongate and he was starting to shift but he wasn’t fast enough as Ethan lunged through the air and tackled James to the ground.

He stood over James and roared so ferociously in his face as James was trying to shift, but Ethan didn’t have a chance.

Ethan wasn’t taking any chances with James.

He opened his mouth and snarled before he went straight for the kill shot and latched onto James’ throat and started shaking until James was dead.

I saw James’ warriors start to surround Ethan and I was suddenly feeling scared for Ethan.

Ethan dropped James’ dead body to the ground and turned around, while covered in blood, and crouched to the ground ready to attack when all of Ethan’s warriors stopped the fight that they were in.

It was a really weird fight that was happening in front of me. They were stopping in the middle of a fight with another wolf to attack the ones that were surrounding their Alpha.

The other wolves were in bad shape, but of course they were still able to fight and I thought that this was going to go bad for Ethan and his warriors.

I grabbed on to Ryker’s arm, really tightly, and he stood right in front of me. He didn’t want me to see what was going to happen. He didn’t even know what was going to happen.

It only took a couple of minutes before I heard bones snapping and rearranging and then I saw Ryker pull something out from under his jacket and I saw that they were a pair of shorts.

He handed them to the man behind him and I looked up to see Ethan standing there wearing the shorts.

Ethan knelt down in front of me and he looked at the bruises on my face and he sniffed the air.

“You can smell the wolfsbane.” Ryker says.

“That’s not what I can smell.” Ethan says. And I realised that I didn’t have a shower before the wedding. He could smell James on me, from when I was unconscious. And I looked at Ryker with a lot of concerned. I was scared that he wasn’t going to want me anymore. That he was going to walk away from me.

I was scared that all of this bloodshed was for nothing. But I saw Ethan looking at me for a little while and then he shook his head, like he was trying to rid himself of the image that he was seeing. But he looked me in the eye again and he smiled at me and cupped my face in his hands.

“Summer. Everything is going to be alright. I promise. I’m going to get you out of here right now.” Ethan says.

“You are?” I was surprised.

“Of course I am. That’s why I’m here. Come on, let’s go.” He says.

“She’s still pretty weak from the wolfsbane. She can’t walk properly. But just get her the hell out of here.” Ryker says. And Ethan nodded at him. So he picked me up bridal style, which I thought was really ironic, and he turned back to look at his warriors. I knew that he was mind linking with one of them and Ryker handed me my phone. The one he had been communicating with Ethan.

Ethan started running across the field and we ran straight into the woods and he didn’t miss a stride.

We crossed the border with no problem because everyone was in the fight at the packhouse and Ethan ran further through the woods until we got to the highway.

He looked both ways and started swearing immediately.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“They're late. We can’t stay here.” He says. And he started running along the side of the road.

But it wasn’t too long before a black SUV pulled up right beside us and the back door flew open from someone sitting in the front seat that had opened it.

Ethan got me in the car first and he climbed in next to me and started abusing the driver, and the driver looked really intimidated and scared as Ethan was going off at him.

“Where the hell were you? You were told to be waiting for us.” Ethan growled at him.

“I’m so sorry Alpha. We got held up. There was a police barricade down the road.” The guy said.

“Well make sure you avoid it on our way back.” Ethan yelled.

Ethan sat back and he looked at me and saw the bruises on my face that weren’t going away and he pulled me closer to him. He put my head on his chest and I felt like I could breathe again, but only for a moment.

Something landed on the top of the car and it made the driver swerve and almost lose control of the car. It was something big and heavy enough to dint the top of the car and the driver finally slammed on the brakes and a large black wolf rolled off of the top of the SUV and landed in the middle of the road. But he got straight back up and looked in our direction. Right at us.

“Dad.” I said, fear filling my entire body.

“Are you sure?” Ethan asked.

“Yeah. I haven’t seen him shift in years. I haven’t seen him do his own dirty work ever. Ethan, this isn’t good if he’s here.” I say.

“Stay in the car.” Ethan said, very seriously and he opened the back door of the car and stepped out and closed it behind him.
