LOGINSOMMY BLACKWOOD POV
I do not say anything back to Lady Adanna Wolfhart. She knows her son Ronan very well, so she knows the truth anyway. Adanna does not see why Ronan likes Zanele Nightshade so much. Zanele cannot even walk right because her wolf legs are sick. Adanna does not care that Zanele is an unclaimed blood heir, but she hates that Zanele acts sneaky and badly.
"Go back to your bedroom and rest your body, Sommy," Adanna says to me. "I am calling Ronan to make him fly back to the Moonkeep right now."
"Okay, Mother," I say, and I compress my lips.
I turn around and walk away to the stairs. Adanna sighs while she watches me go. She wishes I would cry or scream so she could fight the pack for me, but I am always too quiet.
Adanna grabs her communicator and calls Ronan fast. "I do not care what pack business you are doing in Moonscar City, get your paws back to this Moonkeep this very second!"
She cuts the call, and Ronan looks down at his device with a big frown. He thinks Adanna is very mad from the loud sound of her voice.
"Did Sommy go tell Grandmother about us?" Ronan thinks, and his wolf eyes get dark and angry.
Zanele sees his scary face and feels scared.
"What is wrong, Ronan?" Zanele asks, biting her lip. "Did Sommy refuse to sign the divorce papers? Did she complain to Matriarch Esi?"
"I do not know yet," Ronan says, grabbing his heavy fur coat. "I must leave the healing centre for a bit."
"Are you coming back to my bed tonight?" Zanele asks, pulling on the sleeve of his shirt.
"Yes," Ronan nods his head.
Zanele smiles big. "I will wait for you. I do not care how late the moon gets."
She wants to hold onto him forever now. Ronan looks at her with deep eyes and walks out of the room. As soon as he leaves, Zanele’s face goes totally cold.
When Ronan gets back to the Wolfhart Moonkeep, Adanna is standing right at the big stone doors to block him.
"Why do you smell like medicine and strange wolf blood, Ronan?" Adanna asks very coldly. "Did you find out your own body cannot make pups, so you ran to the healer bloodline?"
Ronan frowns hard. "What are you saying, Mother? My wolf is perfectly strong and healthy."
"Then why do you refuse to have a pup with your mate?" Adanna asks with a mad voice.
"Sommy was the one who said no to a pup," Ronan says back.
"That is a big lie!" Adanna shouts at him. "How can a big Alpha blame a young girl? You are acting like a mean wolf who hates his mate. I cannot believe I gave birth to a son like you!"
Ronan squints his eyes. "I am telling the truth, Mother."
He remembers testing me before. One night, after we were close on the bed, I told him I wanted to learn how to paint banners for the pack gatherings. He asked me if I wanted a pup since I had nothing to do. I told him no right away.
Adanna laughs a mean laugh. "Did you ask her nicely, Ronan?"
Ronan nods his head. "Yes."
"You silly boy," Adanna says, looking at him like he is dumb. "If she said yes, would you have let her go? You probably told her she was dreaming about things she could not have. You probably asked her what would happen to the pup when Zanele came back to the pack!"
Ronan looks away. "If Sommy does not want to raise the pup, she can just give birth to it. Then Zanele and I will take care of the little wolf in our den. Sommy is still young; she can go find a new mate in another territory."
Adanna gets so mad that her face turns red. "You are not my son! I must have taken the wrong wolf pup home from the hospital when you were born!"
Ronan has no words to say to that.
"I do not usually talk about your mate bond, so you two can do what you want," Adanna says coldly. "But you are a big jerk, and you do not match Sommy at all. I have many great, smart young Alphas working in my law house for the Royal Lycan Court who would love to have her!"
Adanna turns around and walks away fast.
Ronan stands there frowning. He knows his grandmother loves me, but he did not know his mother liked me, too. What kind of mother looks for new Alphas for her own son's mate? His heart feels tight and weird inside his chest. He hates thinking about me, his sweet little rabbit wolf, sitting in the arms of another male.
He walks up the big stairs to our bedroom. I am lying on the big bed, hugging the fur blanket tightly, fast asleep.
We had a bad fight at the food place, but Ronan’s anger never stays alive for a long time. He always comes back to my body because I taste like a sweet peach he wants to bite again and again.
I have a strange habit when the moon comes up. I hate wearing heavy clothes because they feel too tight on my fur. So when I came upstairs, I put on a very thin, pearl-white nightdress.
I am curled up with the blanket, and my long, smooth legs and arms are coming out. I look very pretty.
"Sommy," Ronan whispers, leaning his big body right over me on the bed.
I am so tired and heavy from the pup inside me. I do not even open my eyes when I hear his voice. I just spoke with a low, sleepy throat. "Be quiet, Ronan. I want to sleep."
Since the baby started growing, I want to sleep all day long.
Ronan smiles a little bit. "Why don't I lie down and sleep with you?" He reaches out his big hand and touches my soft cheek. He always wonders how my skin stays so smooth like milk.
"No... You will crush..." I say in a daze. I almost say he will crush the little pup in my belly.
Ronan’s face goes dark fast. "We are not even divorced yet, and you are already pushing your Alpha away?"
I never say no to him normally, unless my moon cycle is here or if my wolf is sick. He tracks my moon cycle, and he knows it is not time for that yet.
Suddenly, I feel the bed go down, and a huge, hot chest wraps around me hard.
My eyes fly wide open. I am totally awake now. I see Ronan holding me tight, and I freeze. "Supreme Alpha Ronan Wolfhart?" I ask, feeling shocked.
He looks mad because I use his full title. I always call him Ronan, and I used to tell him no other girl can use that name because it belongs to me.
I sit up fast, pulling the fur blanket to my chest, looking at him with scared eyes. I know Ronan likes to play wild on the bed, but I cannot let him touch me tonight. The baby wolf inside me is too small. I used to let him do whatever he wanted, but everything is different now.
Ronan hates that I am moving away from him. "What did you tell my mother downstairs?" he asks coldly.
My eyes look very confused. "I did not say any words to Adanna."
"Then how does my mother know Zanele is back in the Lycan Dominion if you did not tell her?" Ronan asks with an unhappy growl.
"Ronan, Zanele is a big wolf, she is not invisible!" I say, and my voice gets a little loud. "Many wolves in Moonscar City see her. You put her right inside the Top Healing Centre. Do you know how many big, powerful Alphas go there to see the healers every day? They love to talk and gossip! It is normal for the news to hit Adanna's ears!"
I am always a sweet, quiet girl who never yells at him. I tried hard to be the best Luna for three years, but today I finally see that he will never love me, even if I am perfect. He even wants me to give my bone marrow to save the girl he loves.
Ronan sees me breathing fast and frowning. "I am just asking you a question," he says.
"No, you are thinking I am a bad wolf," I say, and I feel so small and hurt. "You think I ran to Grandmother and Mother to complain because I want to stop the divorce?"
I am not a bad girl like that. Since the day we mated, I stayed quiet through every sad thing. But it breaks my heart that he does not trust me even a tiny bit. What am I to him?
Ronan does not say he is sorry. He just looks at me.
I feel so mad and sad. But because I look like a small rabbit wolf, my angry face does not look scary at all.
"Ronan, you better listen to me right now," I say, looking right at his nose. My cheeks are very red, my dress strap is falling off my shoulder, and my bare legs are showing on the bed.
Ronan narrows his eyes, and his wolf's look gets dark. "What did you just call me?"
"Ronan," I say again. I think I am being very tough and scary.
But to Ronan, I just look like a little white kitten with my fur standing up.
"I am a wolf who keeps my promises!" I shout, and my eyes get wet and red. "If you want a divorce, I am fine with it! I just do not want to make Matriarch Esi sick because her blood is weak. That is why I did not tell her today! How can you think so badly of me?"
Left alone under the towering stone arches, Ronan stares at the carved wooden doors. His chest feels tight, as if an iron band is slowly crushing his lungs. For an entire year, he thought he could survive the silence. He thought the bond-severing would cure the madness. But seeing her today—healthy, beautiful, her dark hair glowing under the sun, her skin flushed with life instead of the pale gray of death—makes his wolf claw at his ribs, screaming to tear the world apart just to hold her once more. When Ronan finally steps back into the grand dining hall, the room is filled with quiet laughter.Sommy sits between Adanna and Matriarch Esi, her soft voice carrying over the gentle clinking of crystal and silver. But the moment Ronan takes his seat at the far end of the long mahogany table, the room falls dead silent."Must you sit there?" Adanna mutters, rolling her eyes."It is my seat," Ronan says emotionlessly, his eyes fixed entirely on Sommy.I keep my gaze locked onto my plate, fo
"I am not asking for your permission, Ronan," I say, keeping my voice smooth as ice as I set my crystal glass on the polished mahogany table with a quiet thud. "I am telling you."Matriarch Esi Wolfhart and my brother, Tarian Blackthorn, sit across from us, their expressions frozen.Ronan Wolfhart's dark, golden Lycan eyes narrow into dangerous slits. "Is that so?" His low, rumbling voice vibrates through the floorboards like distant thunder. He doesn't glance at the crucial pack alliance documents he rushed back to retrieve, tossing them onto the table as if they mean nothing."Come now, Sommy, eat your sweet-berries," Matriarch Esi says, breaking the suffocating tension by sliding a small bowl toward me. Her sharp eyes dart to her grandson, shooting him a warning glare. "These were brought straight from the Frostfang Hollow border this morning.""Thank you, High Alpha Elder," I say, forcing a soft smile as I take the bowl.Across from me, Tarian leans back in his velvet chair, his j
"Kellan, I'm fine. Let's leave," I say calmly, turning away from my ex-mate.Kellan shoots his cousin a look of absolute disgust. "A word of advice, Supreme Alpha. Don't make a complete fool of yourself in front of the entire council."Without waiting for a response, Kellan takes my hand and leads me down the terrace stairs.Ronan doesn't move. He stands under the pale moonlight, his fists clenched so tight his claws draw blood from his palms.A fool? he thinks bitterly. We will see who has the last laugh, cousin. The ride back to the Blackthorn Estate is quiet. I stare out the carriage window at the glowing neon runes of the city's market district, my thoughts far away."Relax, Sommy," Kellan says softly, breaking the silence. "You're going to cross paths with him again. It's inevitable while you're in Moonscar City, especially when you go to see Matriarch Esi.""I know, Kellan," I reply, my voice steady. "You don't have to worry about me. I know how to handle Ronan now."Kellan purs
I knit my brows, my chest tightening with frustration. "I don't know.""Ronan, why do you need to know?" Kellan sneers, stepping slightly between us so his massive shoulder blocks Ronan's line of sight. "You don't plan on lying in wait like a rogue when she visits Matriarch Esi at the Wolfhart Moonkeep, do you?"He is laying Ronan's manipulative tactics bare right in front of me. I might have been a young, naive female once, but I am not that innocent little pup who fell for every dark, possessive word out of Ronan's mouth. Not anymore. Never again.I shoot Ronan a sharp, sidelong glance. He thinks he can still play mind games with me, but he is dead wrong."I will visit the Matriarch whenever my schedule allows," I say, setting my crystal glass down on the stone table with a sharp tap. "I don't need your permission or your interference, Supreme Alpha."Without waiting for his response, I wrap my fingers tightly around Kellan’s forearm and pull him away, striding toward the grand arch
I slam the door of my quarters shut, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped wild beast. Pulling out my communication stone, I tap the glowing blue rune and connect to Kellan Stormfang.“Kellan, are you out of your mind? Why on earth did you agree to Tarian’s insane scheme?” My voice cracks, sharp with anger and panic.“Don’t yell at him, Sommy. I made the call,” Kellan replies, his smooth tone completely unfazed.I drop onto the edge of the carved wooden bed with a heavy sigh. “Thank you, Kellan. I know you’re trying to shield me, but you don’t have to sacrifice your own reputation for my sake. I can never repay what you’ve done for me.”“Have you ever considered repaying me with yourself?” Kellan asks, a quiet, dangerous humor laced in his voice.Speechless, I grip the stone tighter, my throat tight.Kellan lets out a low, dry chuckle across the link. “I’m just messing with your head. Will you attend the Grand Council Gala with me tonight? I already informed the Alpha High
Ronan. What is the Supreme Alpha of the Wolfhart Bloodline doing at a public transit hub?I pull my fur collar up around my chin, my fingers trembling slightly beneath my leather gloves, though I force my posture to remain upright and proud.Ronan’s dark golden eyes lock onto me instantly.Even with the silk veil hiding my nose and mouth, his wolf knows my scent. The air between us grows instantly thin, charged with a dark, suffocating tension that makes every wolf in the square lower their heads to the cobbles.Tarian steps slightly in front of me, his hand resting on the hilt of his short-blade. “Don't be afraid, Sommy. He cannot touch you under international Healer immunity.”“I am not afraid,” I whisper back, though my heart is beating violently against my ribcage. “He is probably here to meet a high-ranking diplomat from the Royal Lycan Court.”Before I can take another step, a towering shadow falls across the stone floor.A heavy, rich scent of fresh cedarwood, dark leather, and
