Chapter 3

The days that followed were eerily calm.

Draco seemed truly convinced that loving him meant I would endure anything, so he made no effort to hide his intimacy with Nanette right in front of me.

He even handed me a manual titled "Assistant Guidelines for Nanette" and reassigned me to work as her personal assistant.

Staring at the thick binder in my hands, I couldn't help but find my six years of devotion all too absurd.

"I'm getting marked by my mate soon, so I'll have to try on wedding gowns these days," Nanette announced and smiled at me with mockery and disdain shining plainly in her eyes.

"You have such good taste, Lea. Why don't you come along and give me some advice?"

Draco looked flustered. "Nanette, Lea's just your assistant at work."

I kept my head down and replied in a flat, obedient voice, "I'll go."

Draco's chest heaved before he said, "If you don't like it, you don't have to."

But I looked up and flashed a brilliant smile. "Actually, I'd like to try on wedding gowns too. After all, we'll get married someday."

Malice flashed in Nanette's eyes, while Draco froze before he forced a strained smile. "Alright then. I'll go with both of you."

At the bridal boutique, Nanette preened before the mirrors like a proud white peacock, while I stood in the corner like a prop.

Suddenly, she stopped and locked her provocative gaze on me through the reflection in the mirror.

"Lea," she said, turning around to point at a mermaid-style wedding gown hanging nearby. "That would suit you. You'd make such a unique bride."

Ignoring her emphasis on the word "unique", I smiled and took the dress. "Sure."

The moment I stepped into the fitting room, the hushed voices behind me could no longer wait.

Draco's tone held a hint of displeasure as he hissed, "You went too far, Nanette. You know I won't be marking Lea."

"I'm sorry. I just thought… You might want to see her in a wedding gown."

Nanette's reply carried feigned innocence, but as a female, I perfectly understood the implication. It was a warning and a reminder not to harbor any delusions about the Luna's position.

It was also a humiliation to prove that even when I was openly provoked in front of Draco, I would receive no protection from him.

Sure enough, Draco fell briefly silent before saying, "Fine, but don't do it again. Since I've agreed to mark you as my Luna, I won't go back on it. You don't have to test my resolve by targeting Lea.

"You know I don't want her to find out about our marking ceremony."

I leaned against the fitting room door and could feel my blood run cold. Hearing Draco betray our relationship hurt more than any insult ever could.

My fingers trembled as I pulled out my phone and sent a message to a number I had long since blocked.

"I've changed my mind. A week from now, send someone to the Silverpine pack to get me out."
