Still Mercedes' POVWhen John left, I took a roadmap out of my bag and put the piece of paper with the location he gave me on it. I map out the route I have to take. Actually, I would be there faster by plane, but my Bugatti is a fast one and if I look at the route like that, I can arrive at my destination within three days.I'm totally focused on my plan that I don't notice anyone bending over me. “Are you going outside the pack, Mercedes?” it sounds suddenly behind me. Startled, I look around and see no one but Clarita. Her face is pale as if she has cried for a long time and her eyes are dull. “Clarita,” I exclaim. I jump up and hug her. "How do you feel? I know it was tough to lose your second chance mate. Why did you reject John first?” I ask her without batting an eyelid.Clarita is clearly startled. “Did he tell you about that? That fool! Instead of being ashamed, he is trumpeting that his mate dished him,” she sounds annoyed. She sits down next to me and looks at the roadmap.
When Zane notices that I am adamant, he resigns himself to my mission. But I did have to promise to call him twice a day to tell him what progress I was making with my plans. He also promised not to tell Jace about this. If his Beta knows where Saphira is, he might rush in here on his own and things could not end well. I've asked Zane for up to five days to try and persuade her to at least talk to Jace about her doubts.Fortunately, my mate was indulgent and agreed. Although something tells me he's not entirely at ease with me traveling this far without him and I'm expecting him to show up anytime, Zane never takes risks when it comes to me. So I have to act quickly. “Clarita, how about we sleep early and leave early tomorrow morning? Maybe we can drive on and immediately reach Shadow Moon in the evening”, I suggest to my friend. She looks at me strangely. “We can do that, but then we will take turns. You'll be too tired to drive non-stop all day," she says. “Why do you want to be the
Alpha Rainer takes us to a spacious dining room.On the way, I take in my surroundings well and I notice that the interior of the packhouse is a real show off of wealth. I even wonder if there are children here in the packhouse, it is really too neat and orderly. As we join up, I notice that the Alpha is sitting right across from me at the table. His eyes are still on me. “Tell me, Mercedes. You also seem to be high ranking in your pack. Who are your parents exactly?” he asks, really interested. I show a polite smile, his piercing eyes make me really uncomfortable. Not that they get me off balance or insecure, but it's not normal for a man to look at another's mate this way. “My father is the Beta of Silver Moon. And I'm the future Luna of Midnight Moon. Alpha Zane is my fated mate. In a few months, I will be eighteen and then I will finally join my mate in his pack”, I answer dreamily. Now the Alpha knows I'm genuinely into my mate, maybe he might turn his gaze to Clarita who is impa
As soon as the door slams behind the Alpha, Clarita turns to me.Her face is twisted with jealousy, which completely obscures her previous beauty. “And if I thought I had a chance with him, he can't take his eyes off you. A mated she-wolf, at it!”, she exclaims, distraught. “Zane, Glary and now Rainer too! Seriously, Mercedes? What do you have that I don't? You're still a virgin! I can offer Rainer so much more!”.If Clarita thought she would hurt me with those worthless words, she's so wrong. Bored, I look closely at her again. “You've had two mates and both of them you screwed up. Do you know how lucky you are? Only a few she-wolves get second chances”, I tell her. “The one that I was granted, I hold tight to him, make him happy and proud of me. I don't spread my legs for everyone. My mate owns me completely. Can you say that too, Clarita?”She turns red, she knows I'm right. Now that her affair with our pack's Alpha is out, I wonder if she can stay there. De Luna should already hav
We drive through the pack, the soft moonlight gives everything such a picturesque view.Shadow Moon is indeed outstanding, the spatial planning is excellent. The residential centers are separated from the lively catering industry, probably to prevent noise nuisance. Everything is orderly and maintained as I already noted when we entered the pack. The Alpha explains that his pack is one of the oldest and most of the smaller ones originated from Shadow Moon. Persons who at first could not adhere to the strict discipline had left the pack in groups and formed smaller ones that have grown over the years. This pack does not accept rogues, unlike refugees from war-surviving packs. He states that his father is officially still the Alpha, but that he is the actual leader carrying out all the work. According to tradition, he cannot officially take over the position until he has found his fated mate. He is now twenty, and has searched for her in a number of packs but came home empty-handed.“I
Alpha Zane's POVStrange, but I can feel my body tense and my heart is beating unusually fast. I look around, I'm alone in my office, there's nothing that could be the reason for that. For the past few hours, I've been working frantically to catch up with the papers on my desk and tackle some urgent matters in the pack. The past week I've hardly been in my pack, Mercedes had it again going and wouldn't let me go.Her eighteenth cannot come soon enough. Then she can live here in the pack with me and be around me all the time. My mate is very affectionate, when she looks around, she always wants to see me close. At first, I thought it was insecurity, but eventually I found out that I too could hardly breathe if I didn't see her for only some hours. It's just a two-way stream. It started several months after I discovered her as my fated mate. She had spent the school holidays in my pack but refused to leave if I didn't come along to her parents' house. So I ended up in Silver Moon with m
Mercedes' POV When I woke up the following day I noticed that Clarita had not been back from her late night escapade. I take a bath, change into jeans and a shirt and step out of the apartment. Today I have to speak to Saphira, I want to get things done asap and take her to Midnight Moon. I long to see Jace smile happily again, I hate the pain I saw in his eyes that night. When I walk toward the elevator I see that one of the doors of an apartment is not closed properly. When I want to walk past it I hear moaning sounds and slaps of bodies against each other. I try to move on quickly, I have a suspicion about what goes on behind those doors. But then I recognize Clarita's husky voice, urgently begging with all kinds of vulgar language. I stand frozen, I hear several voices. And then it dawns on me that there's a lively three of foursome happening in there. I suspect that the high rankings of this pack are spoiling Clarita. But that's non of my business, I have a different mission. I
I walk into a building after the Alpha. Behind it is clearly a large area with all kinds of training equipment. It is well secured, it has much of a concentration camp. But I see some men training in a friendly manner, I notice from their groans that it is going fast.Everyone we pass comes to attention in front of the Alpha. It is clear that he's earned a lot of respect among his subjects. When we signed up, some guards escorted us to a large room where there was a conference table with comfortable chairs. “They are going to get the two. We're waiting here," the Alpha reported. My heart beats to my throat, I hope Saphira is willing to listen to me and leave with me. I know she's an intelligent and reasonable person, not quite the confrontational type like Clarita. Then I hear hasty footsteps coming our way. Full of anticipation, I jump out of my chair and take a few steps to the entrance to take Saphira in my arms. I am so happy that I finally have the opportunity to meet and talk t
