Stefan's Pov

Morning was the same kind of loud that feels like an accusation. I woke up with the bond already tugging on me. Before I even picked up my phone screen to check messages, I knew Adrian’s mood: he was stressed, tired and irritated.

I rose and moved through the packhouse, the healers were elbow-deep in supplies, murmuring under their breaths. I found a stack of gauze and tried to make my hands useful, letting the motion quiet my head but it didn’t work.

"Hey, Stef," Mags called without looking up. "Can you grab me peroxide and the small scissors?"

"On it." I grabbed the tray and tried to swallow the scrape of loneliness that arrived with the order. Around us people leaned toward each other in little huddles. Someone said the missing guard’s name and then pretended that was normal. Someone else mentioned the camera near the eastern border — the exact one that got ripped down — and their eyes darted like they’d swallowed lies.

No one said the word attack, they didn't need to,

  • The Alpha's Possession   Chapter 46

Adrian's POV I woke up feeling wrong. Not sick. Not injured. Just wrong. Like something inside me had shifted overnight and I couldn't put my finger on what it was.I sat up slowly, rubbing my face. The room was dim. Early morning light filtered through the curtains. The house was quiet except for the distant sound of guards changing shifts outside. Then I felt it.The mate bond. Different than it had been for days. The constant edge of fear that had been bleeding through from Stefan had eased. Not disappeared. Just softened. Like a weight had lifted slightly.I stood and crossed to the window. Focused on the sensation in my chest. Tried to understand what it meant.Stefan was still far away. Still hurting. I could feel that clearly. But there was something else now. Something that felt like relief. Faint and unsteady, but there.Like he'd taken his first real breath in days.I didn't know what had changed. The bond wasn't strong enough to give me clear answers. But I recognized the

  • The Alpha's Possession   Chapter 45

Stefan's POVTime had stopped making sense.I couldn't tell how long I'd been held. Days blurred together, marked only by pain, hunger, and brief moments when exhaustion dragged me under. The rooms changed twice. Each one colder than the last. Each one farther from anything that felt like civilization. My captors barely spoke to me. When they entered, they checked my restraints, left food, or warned me not to try anything. Their voices were flat. Professional. Like I was cargo, not a person. The rope around my wrists had left deep marks. Bruises circled my skin in dark rings. My ribs ached from where they'd hit me during the first transfer. My jaw was swollen on one side, making it hard to chew the stale bread they occasionally threw at me.But I didn't let myself give up.I spent hours listening. Counting footsteps. Tracking voices. Learning patterns. Two guards were sloppy, talking too loud, leaving doors open longer than they should. The third was careful. He always checked behind

  • The Alpha's Possession   CHAPTER 44

CASSANDRA'S POV They put me in a room that looks like a confession box with bright white lights, a clean concrete and a metal bench bolted to the floor. When the bars clang shut it sounds theatrical, like someone is practicing a scene where I am the villain. Only it is not a scene and I am not playing along anymore. I keep replaying Adrian walking past earlier, like a bad song stuck on repeat. He did not look at me. He kept walking with that stoned face he wears when he is trying to hold his head together and for a second I felt that old pull toward him, the one that has nothing to do with logic and everything to do with wanting someone to look at you and say, it will be okay. Instead, there was nothing from him but a hard, professional step. Honestly? That stung worse than the bars. I tell myself I did not mean for any of this to happen. I said yes to small things. The technician came to me all calm and easy, like he had been built to make people trust him. He told me I could mak

  • The Alpha's Possession   Chapter 43

Adrian's Pov I left the council chamber like I’d been unstitched. I didn’t say anything. I didn’t look at anyone. The hall kept going and going until the weight of the decision had time to set in properly. Losing the title felt like someone had taken a piece of me, it was not just a name on a door. It was permission to open things, to pull threads, to get people to move. Without it everything felt locked behind polite faces and new rules.I went straight to my father’s office because it was the only place that made noise I could stand. The guards did not stop me. They looked at me like you look at someone you have loved and are not sure what you are supposed to do next. The room smelled the same, the only difference was that the air around it no longer hummed with my authority.Maps lay where I had left them, scent notes folded into a corner, paper like a fragile city. Every time I tried to pin the investigation down the bond pinged and pulled, useless and constant. Stefan’s fear thr
