Stefan's POV

Three days passed in a blur of healing and quiet.

The healer kept me at the cottage, insisting I needed complete rest before returning to the packhouse. My knee was improving slowly. The swelling had gone down. The sharp pain dulled to a persistent ache.

Adrian visited every evening after handling pack business. We'd sit together for hours, talking about everything and nothing. The mate bond grew stronger with each visit. More natural. Less overwhelming.

On the fourth day, the healer finally cleared me to leave.

"Your ribs are healing well," she said, checking the wrapping one last time. "The knee will take longer but you can put weight on it now. Just don't overdo it."

"I won't."

"I've heard that before. From you specifically." She gave me a stern look. "I mean it this time. No running. No climbing. No heroics."

"Understood."

Tyler drove me back to the packhouse. The grounds looked different somehow. More alive. Pack members moved with purpose instead of fear. Guards at

Stefan's POV Morning came with sharp sunlight and sharper pain.I woke to find the healer standing over me, checking my bandages. She didn't look happy."Your knee is worse than I thought," she said. "The swelling increased overnight. You'll need crutches for the council session.""I can manage without them.""No, you can't. And I'm not letting you hobble in there looking weak. It undermines your testimony."She had a point. I nodded reluctantly.Tyler appeared with breakfast. Toast and eggs. Simple but I was hungry enough not to care."Adrian sent word," Tyler said. "The council session starts at ten. He's sending a car for you at nine thirty."I glanced at the small clock on the wall. Eight fifteen. That gave me just over an hour to get ready."How's he doing?" I asked."Focused. He's been up since five preparing his presentation. Dawson says he's gone through the evidence three times checking for gaps.""Will the council believe us?""They'll have to. The evidence is solid. Your t

Stefan's POV Tyler drove faster than he should have through the dark forest roads.I gripped the edge of the seat, trying not to groan every time we hit a bump. My knee felt like it was on fire. My ribs protested every breath."That was incredibly stupid," Tyler said. His knuckles were white on the steering wheel."I know.""You could have been killed. If Adrian hadn't been there...""But he was. And we got what we needed.""At what cost? Look at you. You can barely move."I didn't argue because he was right. The adrenaline was wearing off now and the pain was becoming unbearable.Tyler pulled up to the cottage and helped me out of the car. I tried to walk but my leg gave out completely. He ended up carrying me inside. The healer took one look at me and her face went pale."What happened?" she demanded."He went on a reconnaissance mission," Tyler said. "Against everyone's advice."She helped him lay me on the examination table. Started checking my injuries immediately. Her hands wer

  • The Alpha's Possession   Chapter 56

Stefan's POV The convoy moved slowly along the northern route.I watched the screens with my heart in my throat. Every camera angle showed different parts of the approach. The lead vehicle. The one carrying the duchess in the middle. The security detail bringing up the rear.Tyler's phone buzzed. He checked it quickly. "Dawson says they're ready. Adrian's team is in position.""How many wolves does he have?""Six. Plus himself. Against what looks like at least a dozen security personnel.""That's not enough.""It has to be. They can't risk bringing more without being spotted."The mate bond pulsed harder now. I could feel Adrian's focus. His determination. And underneath it, a thread of concern that he was trying to suppress. On the screen, the convoy slowed as it approached a narrow section of road. Trees pressed close on both sides. Perfect place for an ambush."That's where they'll stop them," Tyler said.I leaned closer to the screen. My hands gripped the edge of the laptop so ha

  • The Alpha's Possession   Chapter 55

Stefan's POV I woke up to sunlight streaming through the small window of the cottage. My body still ached but the sharp pain from before had dulled to a manageable throb. I tested my ribs carefully. Still sore but I could breathe without wanting to scream. Progress. The healer had left early. She'd told me yesterday she had other patients to check on but would return by afternoon. That left me alone with my thoughts. And Tyler, who was asleep in the chair by the door.I sat up slowly. My knee protested but held my weight when I swung my legs over the side of the bed. I needed to move. Needed to do something other than lie here while Adrian faced everything alone. The mate bond hummed in my chest. Steady but distant. Adrian was awake. Working. Probably planning for tonight when the duchess arrived.I hated being stuck here. Hated feeling useless while everyone else prepared for what might be the most dangerous confrontation the pack had faced.Tyler stirred in his chair. His eyes open

  • The Alpha's Possession   Chapter 54

Adrian's POV I didn't go back to the packhouse right away.Instead, I found a quiet spot near the northern edge of the territory. A clearing I'd discovered years ago when I needed to think. The grass was damp with morning dew. The air cold and sharp.I sat down and pulled out my phone. Called Lauren. She answered immediately. "Adrian. I wasn't expecting to hear from you this early.""Stefan remembered something. About the kidnapping. The guards mentioned a deadline. Someone important coming to see the results.""The duchess.""That's what we think. Can you find out if there's any record of her traveling? Official schedules? Transportation logs?""Royal movements are usually classified. But I can check secondary sources. Travel permits. Security detail assignments. If she's planning a trip, there will be traces.""How long will it take?""Give me a few hours. I'll have something by noon.""Good. And Lauren? Be careful. If the duchess realizes we're tracking her movements, she might ac
