Se connecterSelene “Wool looks good on you,” Jax teased. We were having dinner together at a table in the corner of the dining hall. I was nursing Hennessy, so I didn’t want to join one of the bigger tables. Jax had, of course, made a beeline for my table. “Wool doesn’t look good on anyone,” I smirked. It was getting colder by the day, and a massive storm was coming. We could all feel it. So, the pack had spent the day preparing. Some people had chopped wood, some had fortified the houses, making sure the windows were boarded up so the warm air couldn’t escape, and some had been taking inventory of the warm clothes we had on hand. I’d been in the kitchen, preparing bread and soup broths. Jax had been shoveling snow all day with some of the stronger men. We were both exhausted, but the fire was blazing in the dining room, and it was cozy. “Well, you can pull it off,” he said, a playful smile tugging at his lips. “Although you look best with nothing on.” I blushed. His advances had become m
I sighed. Marcus’ betrayal had been really hard to take, but I knew why he’d done it, and there was some solace in that. He was right; he’d been blinded. He hadn’t been thinking straight. “If I could take it all back, I would,” he said. I missed him. I missed having him as my Beta. He’d fucked up, yes. But he was contacting me now to warn me about my parents and Gamma Stone, so that was something, and he was back there, at Crescent Moon, defending me. “I appreciate that,” I told him. “Anything,” he said, his tone shifting to a hopeful one. “I’ll keep you in the loop if I hear anything else,” he said in a rush. “You have my word.” I nodded. I felt like it wouldn’t be much longer before Selene caved. In the meantime, having someone on the inside, someone I trusted, would be helpful, just in case my parents tried to pull something stupid. If they somehow found out where I was, it would give me advance warning and a chance to fend them off. Honestly, I didn’t particularly like livi
Jax I grunted as I pushed the shovel through the thick snow. It had snowed again last night, and I was determined to clear the path from Selene’s house to the dining hall before she awoke so she wouldn’t have to trudge through the deep snow. I dumped a massive heap of snow onto the pile and wiped my brow. Why anyone would choose to live where it snowed so much was beyond me. Silvermist could have gone south—but hey, it wasn’t my circus. I was winning her over; I could tell. Sometimes, I caught her looking at me with those lust-filled eyes the way she used to. She was angry and standoffish, and I couldn’t blame her, but it was only a matter of time. She and I belonged together, especially now that we had little Hennessy, too. She was acting like my grand gestures and constant attention had no impact on her, but I knew they did. I was wearing her down, day by day and hour by hour. Soon enough, she’d come to her senses and realize we were meant to be together. All I needed was more
Selene Letting Jax stay was the right thing to do. I knew Jack wasn’t overly thrilled with the idea, but I also knew Jax wasn’t a threat to the Silvermist Pack. I didn’t know how I felt about Jax. He’d hurt me so badly, but he was Hennessy’s father. Plus, I’d be Alpha Queen soon, so I figured there was no harm in letting him stay until he healed and having him meet Hennessy. We didn’t know where to put Jax during his stay. Silvermist wasn’t exactly equipped with many guest houses—or any, for that matter—so we decided to put him in the storage house, with a small makeshift bed. He needed to bathe, and I offered my house. I boiled pots of water to give him a hot bath, and he thanked me and went into my bathroom to undress. He left the door open a crack, and I couldn’t help but see the back of his naked body through the crack in the door as he undressed. My breath hitched in my throat at the sight of his muscular back. My mind flashed back to our many nights together in his bed. He
Selene Instantly, Jack shifted, too. Avery and I instinctively stepped backward. They were roughly the same size, both wolves muscular. They snapped their jaws at each other and started to circle one another. Storm let out a menacing roar, but I saw him limping slightly as he circled Jack’s wolf. That was odd—he must be hurt. Storm bared his claws. He pounced on Jack’s wolf and his claw connected with Jack’s shoulder, leaving four deep gashes. They instantly started oozing blood. Jack’s wolf didn’t even hesitate, though. He leaped through the air and sunk his teeth into Storm’s front leg. Storm tossed Jack’s wolf off him, causing Jack’s wolf to hurl through the air and land with a loud thud. Jack’s wolf got up. His gash was bleeding profusely now, as was Jax’s leg. Both wolves snarled, their eyes locked on one another. I stood frozen in place. Their power and alpha energy surged through the air, and the children let out a terrified gasp. Avery darted over and stood in front of th
