LOGINEVE
The world is cruel to those who try to be heroes. When you play the heroe and take the fall for someone, they walk right over you and grab what could have been yours. I was the unfortunate heroic daughter who constantly had reasons to sneak away to be alone while my sister always had attention. Tonight, I was in my personal training ground. One last time before I was taken by Alpha Kolton. I was striking at a training dummy. The wooden practice sword shattered against the training dummy, sending heavy splinters flying across the dark clearing. I didn't stop. I threw the broken hilt aside, drove my fist straight into the wooden post, and hit it again and again until my knuckles were red and my lungs burned. I collapsed into the dirt, chest heaving, tears finally breaking past my eyes in the dark. "If I were you—” I flinched, wiping my face hastily as I stood up. Leora stepped out from the shadowy edge of the woods, wrapping her silk robe tightly around herself. “—the place where my defectiveness was first seen would not be the place I decide to go the night before I'm bundled off to a villain as his seventh wife, sister.” That mocking smile that only I got to see played on her lips. "I am not defective, Leora, and I didn't invite you." I said, my voice raw. It was a warning. "Oh, please," Leora laughed softly, taking a slow step forward. "You can smash all the wooden posts you want, Eve, you can work harder than ten men, but it won't change what I witnessed right on this spot four years ago." "My wolf was unstable for one single moment!" I snapped, clenching my raw fists. "I was twenty years old! I lost control for a second, and you know it hasn't happened since." "And that one time, you were thrown against that tree like a ragdoll," Leora drawled, her tone dripping with fake sympathy. "A werewolf who can't control her own shift? A future Luna who loses her mind during a transformation? It was such a pathetic sight, sister. You were unconscious for hours." “Have you come here to gloat?” “No,” she responded simply. “I just happen to be recalling what happened here four years ago.” "It was an accident," I insisted, my throat tight. "I have worked every single day since then to make sure I am strong. I earned my place." "You didn't earn anything," Leora countered her smile widening. "You just hid behind your sweat and your swords, terrified that I would go tell Father that his precious eldest daughter has a broken wolf." "I let you hold that secret over me because I wanted to protect this pack!" I stepped toward her, rage burning through my pain. "I let you push me around, I took the fall for your mistakes—" "Like when you took the blame for Grandmother's death?" Leora interjected, letting out a cruel giggle. "Mother will always hate you for that, you know. She looks at you and sees a murderer, while I love to sit in her lap like an innocent angel that I really am. You really are so stupid, Eve." The sheer vileness in her voice made my blood run cold. "I'm stupid because I was trying to protect a filthy little bastard like you." "And look where that got you," she taunted, tilting her head. "Traded off to a tyrant while I get everything you built. Things can't get better than this for me, sister.” She exhaled “Jon is mine now, finally. The Luna title is also mine. Can you believe I didn't work a day to earn it? Talk about favors." "You don't deserve to rule even a fly," I whispered. "You don't care about the people. You can't even stand up for yourself." "I don't need to stand up for myself," Leora smirked, stepping right into my space. "I don't need to shift, I don't need to train, and I certainly don't need to bleed in the dirt like you. Have you learned nothing? Effort doesn't matter, sister. I am going to rule the Winter Pack from a soft bed, while you probably get r*ped night by night by Alpha Kolton." I swallowed hard, her words striking me deeply. “I've never seen anyone as vile as you, Leora. You gloat in my face —” “Because you have a secret!” She giggled loudly. Before I could fire back, the sound of heavy boots crunching on dry leaves echoed down the trail. "Leora? Are you out here?" Jon's voice called softly through the trees. The cruel, malicious expression vanished from Leora's face instantly, replaced by her gentle, fragile mask. She took a step back into the shadows, looking at me with a triumphant stare. "I'll kiss you farewell tomorrow.” Leora whispered sarcastically. "I am going to rule this pack wonderfully... right beside the only man you have ever loved.”EveKolton lunged forward, catching Luke in mid-air and slamming him hard onto the asphalt highway. The two vampires and the giant wolf clashed in a violent, bloody fight right in front of my eyes.I sat trapped inside the front passenger seat, clutching the dashboard as shrieks of terror tore from my throat. "Kolton!" I screamed, my hands pressed flat against the glass. It was a dirty, relentless fight. Kolton raised his massive paw, driving it into Luke's ribs with enough force to crush a normal man's chest. Luke tumbled across the pavement, but he bounced right back up to his feet in a fraction of a second, his red eyes blazing as he sprinted straight back into the fight. Linda flanked Kolton from the right, digging her sharp nails into his wounded shoulder, but Kolton turned, bit down hard on her forearm, and threw her over the hood of a parked car. They kept coming back. No matter how hard Kolton hit them, no matter how far he threw them, the two vampires showed zero pain. They m
Eve The thudding against the side windows grew louder and more frantic, the heavy vibrations rattling the entire cab of the SUV."I am opening the door," I said, reaching for the silver door handle.Kolton’s hand snapped out, catching my wrist in an iron grip. "No, Eve. Stay back. You are not stepping out there.""I am opening it just a crack, Kolton!" I insisted, pulling against his grip as I unlocked the door. "Look, I didn't steal anything!" I shouted through the narrow opening, addressing Luke directly as he stood on the asphalt outside. "I didn't steal anything that belongs to you! I fucking left my bag in your house!"To my absolute surprise, Luke didn't pounce on the door to yank it open. Even Linda stayed put on Kolton's side of the car, her dark eyes staring through the glass without moving forward.Luke took a step back on the highway, folding his arms across his chest. He acted completely normal, his face calm as he looked down at me through the cracked door."Then why did
EveThe sharp metal claws scraped against the roof, sending a horrible screeching sound straight through the ceiling of the cab.Kolton didn't panic. He slammed his foot onto the brake pedal with full force, bringing the heavy SUV to a sudden, violent stop in the middle of the empty highway. The weight on the roof shifted instantly. Two dark figures rolled off the front hood of the truck, landing gracefully on the asphalt right in front of our headlights.Kolton reached down beneath his seat, pulling out two heavy silver-loaded shotguns he had stashed away. His jaw was set tight, his eyes burning with deadly focus. He wasn't scared. He looked ready to rip out their throats with his bare teeth to keep me safe."Stay in the car, Eve," Kolton commanded, his voice deep and completely steady. "Do not open these doors for anything."He reached for his door handle, reaching over to lock my side and wind up the power windows to seal me inside the cab. Before he could push his door open, a dar
EveBefore I could even turn my head, a thick, blood-stained hand reached out from behind the headrest and clamped violently around Kolton’s throat. The heavy SUV swerved violently across the empty lane, the tires screeching against the asphalt as the steering wheel jerked under Kolton's hands. The speedometer was already pushing past eighty miles per hour on the North Bravil highway."Kolton!" I screamed, grabbing onto the dashboard to keep myself from being slammed into the passenger door."Stay on the road!" Kolton growled through gritted teeth. His neck muscles bulged as he fought against the rogue's choking grip. He kept his left hand clamped flat onto the wheel, forcing the truck straight, while his right hand reached back over his shoulder to grab the rogue's tactical vest."You're not driving us out of this city, Alpha," the rogue rasped, leaning forward from the footwell. He used his free arm to wrap around Kolton’s neck, pulling him hard against the headrest to force him to
EveA loud, splintering crash echoed from downstairs, followed by deep shouts, the metallic clash of blades, and the sound of heavy bodies slamming into plaster walls. The entire house seemed to shake under the force of the violence below.Fear spiked through my veins, instantly burning away every trace of sleepiness. My heart hammered wildly against my ribs as I threw back the heavy duvet and swung my legs off the bed."Kolton, what is happening?" I asked, my voice trembling as I grabbed my jacket from his hands and shoved my arms into the sleeves. "What was that noise?""A fight broke out downstairs between the vampires," Kolton said, grabbing my hand and pulling me toward the massive glass window on the far side of the room. "Luke and Linda are here. Luke is tearing through Barclay's men, and they are coming directly for you."Horror slammed into me like a physical blow. "Luke and Linda? How did they find us?""We don't have time," Kolton snapped, pulling back the heavy velvet cur
Kolton I sat in the armchair beside the bed, keeping my eyes fixed on the heavy mahogany door. Eve was fast asleep, her breathing steady and deep under the heavy duvet. The first faint rays of dawn were just beginning to streak through the glass window at the edge of the room.A sudden raised voice echoed from the main living room downstairs, cutting through the early morning quiet.I stood up instantly, my wolf rising to high alert inside my chest. I checked on Eve—she didn't stir—then stepped quietly toward the door, unlatching the lock without making a sound. I pulled the heavy door open just enough to slip out into the dimly lit hallway, closing it firmly behind me.I walked silently down the carpeted corridor toward the top of the wide staircase, looking down into the main foyer below. Two figures stood right inside the open front entrance—a tall, broad-shouldered man with his dark hair tied back and a sharp-featured woman in a leather jacket. The ancient protective barrier on
