I was up early the next day, ready to get on the road as soon as Lucas was ready. I packed light, so had Lucas. We didn’t expect this to be a long trip. Just long enough to figure out where, what, or who this clue was leading us to. Hopefully, the drive would be the longest part.

I dropped my duffle bag next Lucas’ in the foyer and grabbed my phone to message Helene to see if she was almost ready. Just as the message sent, the elevator dinged. The doors opened to Helene with Lucas next to her holding her bag.

“Where’s Dad?” I asked, my brow furrowing.

“He said he couldn’t make it,” Helene said curiously. “He said he’s got some business to take care of. I know he’s still trying to wrap some things up back home.”

“Oh, okay,” I replied, a little disappointed. “Well, are you ready then? You have your medication?”

Helene lifted a small cooler. “Good to go.”

    As I drove us back to our cabin, I couldn’t help but notice the shift in Sutton’s mood. Since starting this quest to learn about her mother’s past, there had been an underlying sense of dread that kept popping up through our bond.     Our run lasted a lot longer than we had anticipated. It was almost midnight when we finally made it back to the cabin. But it was entirely needed. Nova and Rhonen had the time of their lives.
