LISA'S POV
That night as I lay down in bed, I pull the covers of the bedsheet up past my shoulders and bury my head deeper into the pillow to get a little bit of warmth. The motel room is freezing. The air conditioners in the room were really working effectively. Extremely well in fact. I was guessing Jonas had something to do with it, the motel room wasn't as cold as this yesterday.
All the same, I was grateful. I look out the window, the moon was shining brightly tonight, I hope it was a sign of something good. I tried to guess the time without looking at the clock chiming adjacent to my bed. I know it has to be somewhere around three in the morning. I tried to sleep for a little longer but I couldn't. Maybe it was the cold or something else, I couldn't place my finger on it. Apart from the buzzing sound of the air conditioner and the clock, the only other sound in the room is Jonas' heavy breathing. And, a few
Lisa's POV I lower myself onto the bed, still reeling from what had just transpired. I can't believe it. The Prime Alpha had been in my room. Jonas was part of the Council. It was too much for me to take in all at once.
LISA's POVOne hour later, we check out of the motel and drive to the nearest mall, located on the outskirts of the town. There was a large number of people trooping in and out of the mall. We had to roam around for a while before we found a parking spot a few blocks away from the mall.As soon as we entered through the main building, I quickly concluded that the crowd here was twice the number of people living in the town alone. There was barely enough space to move an inch. I took a step forward, and a woman slammed into me unapologetically. I move to the side, trying to get close to Jonas, and I get stopped by a man carrying an outrageous number of shopping bags. A few meters away from Jonas, I get whacked in the head by a man carrying a baby trolley high in the air. Jonas notices my frustration and grabs my hand, pulling me through the crowd, shoving anyone in his path. His face was hard as a rock. Many people who left offended felt i
LISA'S POVLater in the evening, I felt a hand tap my arm until I'm awake. Jonas turn his car into the parking lot of a silver painted, five star skyscraper. I hold my breathe for a few seconds. My fingers trembled slightly. Is this the Council's new estate or one of the many houses they owned?Jonas notices my discomfort and wraps his hand around mine. "What's wrong, Lisa?"I gulp. "Is this your home? Surely it can't be, or is it?" I was close to hyperventilating. I need to take control of myself. Snap out of it."No, it isn't." He pulls his hand away from mine and I find myself missing the feeling of his hand on mine. "This is a hotel, one of the many we own. If you're freaking out right now, I wonder how you'd act tomorrow night. I'd hate you see then."What is he saying? I wasn't freaking out that much or was I?He stops behind another car waiting o
LISA'S POVDepending on the person, a fancy dress can make one feel more or less confident. For me, I was stuck in the middle, undecided on how I felt at the moment. I slip on the emerald green dress, tugging the zipper up as best as I could but I failed, I decided to leave it till Jonas came. I stare at my face in the mirror, I was confused about what to do to my face. I've never used makeup before and I had been too ashamed to admit it to Jonas. The makeup kit I bought yesterday at the mall stares back at me. I could manage to put on a light layer, I learned the trick from my estranged best friend. That was all I knew but I was too simple for a dinner of this magnitude. During my time with Dom, the enforcers offered to teach any girl willing how to use makeup but I turned down the offer because I found it to be a waste of time. I wasn't going to accept their plans of turning me into a rebel but here I was on the pathway
LISA'S POVJonas bumps into my hip, shoving me rather unceremoniously to one side to stand in front of the mirror, the moment he comes back into the bathroom. He places his bowtie around his neck, it hangs limply and undone. "Do you think you could do this? I might need some help."I playfully glared at him for his earlier actions. "I can't apply makeup and you think I'll know how to knot a bowtie? You're asking the wrong person, sweetheart."His eyebrows raise. "Sweetheart?"I retort sharply. "Shut up."He moves his hand across his mouth as if to zip it. "That's all right then, I'll ignore you ever said that.""I'd like that."I watch as his fingers easily tie the bowtie. I wondered why he had asked me to help him. His chin lifts as he watches himself in the mirror. He looked like he had grown one or two inches taller. He looked every inch of the cocky Council member that he is, even if
LISA'S POVHave I ever mentioned that I hate family dinners? Well, I have, ever since the death of my parents. Every other makeshift family I had at the rebel house was terrible and I hated them all.As we approached the door, Jonas wrapped his arm around my waist. I look up at him in surprise."Just go with the flow. I remember telling you that you were my date for the night."I nod and look straight ahead. I was about to walk into the Council. My heart was beating rapidly against my ribs. I wonder if Jonas could hear it. If he didn't, he didn't say anything."Is Brandon going to be here?" I ask. Hoping I would see one more familiar face amongst the sea of strangers I was about to mingle with."I don't know, Lisa." Jonas sighs. His hand trembles as he reaches for the doorknob. Before he could turn it, I reach for his hand. He stops and looks at me."It's just your family. They don't bit
LISA'S POVMy heart stops beating. I couldn't hear it thumping against my rib cage. I was going to die on my first night in the Council. So much for wanting to have my revenge, I couldn't even hide my identity. There was no other way to describe this other than I was fucked.I wonder what fate awaits me. I stood rooted to the spot waiting for the Prime Alpha to pass judgment on me.His hand, still cupped around my wrist behind to slide up my sleeve and down. His touch was electrifying. His fingers from his other hand do the same movement but instead of sliding down it goes up to my neck to rest lightly on where I had been bitten. His fingertips burn me through my skin as he tugs the fabric down, revealing the bite mark."What happened to you, did you get into a fight, Lisa?"No, no, no, no. I'm going to die at the mercy of his hands. One of his hands was large enough to choke me to death. Where
Lisa's POV Life is often overlooked and seen as insignificant. People have formed the habit of forgetting how precious each and every life is. Maybe it's because they have over a century to live, or maybe it's because they believe once they find their one true love, life becomes meaningful. Before that, it didn't hold much. It seems what has become important is the right to have happiness, not life itself. But, what many people fail to realize is that the life of one will always outweigh the happiness of a lot of people. Kayden knew that, and because of his actions, I'll forever be indebted to him, no matter what. I'm still alive because he knew I still had a purpose in life. I might have failed to find a mate, but he knew there was more to life than falling in love. I'm still alive because he honored that even though my death would bring the Council peace and happiness, my life had more importance than fulfilling an age-old tradition.
