30 - Ben“That I have got to see.” Tommy laughs, eating his own food.“We need to find out more about this witch stuff. It sounds similar to what Elara is dealing with in Black Claw.” I look at my Delta.“Jason was working with some of Ryker’s guys, he mentioned magic too.”“When did you talk to him? He’s been on the other side of the arena the whole time.”“You were busy with your ‘nobody’s good enough for Kennedy’ fight.” Calvin laughs at his description.“Shut up.”“Hey, he said it not me. And neither of you are wrong.” Calvin shrugs, shoving the last bite in his mouth, chewing fast and swallowing. “I have to go see my girl. I will catch up to you guys later.” He slaps me on the back and walks away.“How is that possible? I got the impression Ken wasn’t doing great being here.”“You sure that wasn’t you projecting?” Tommy asks, following me to dump our garbage.“F*ck off. You felt it too, don’t lie. The last time we all got to talk to her she was off. She’s never been a good liar.”
29 - Ben“The biggest thing we have found is that they were able to use magic to mask their scents from us.” Josh throws over his shoulder and I stop in my tracks. Tommy walks into my back.“What the hell man?” He shoves me and walks by.“Wait, Josh, what did you say about magic?” I jog to catch up to them.“They were able to use magic to hide from us and that is something we haven’t been able to figure out yet. There isn’t anyone among this group that can wield any magic, let alone illusion magic. So someone is working with or, I guess, was working with them.” “And you haven’t found any witches in the group?” I ask. Even I can hear the hope in my voice. He gives me a strange look, but doesn’t stop.We walk to a group of wolves waiting in line to get food. They look like they haven’t seen a good meal in a really long time. Another group looks like they are at a job interview in two perfect lines waiting for a single seat at a long table with a few severe older wolves taking notes an
28 - Ben“What’s with you two? You both act like you have never talked to the opposite s*x before. An I know that’s not the case for either of you.”“There’s nothing with us. We have a job to do and right now she is the only one that seems to be a real target. Everything else looks like a smokescreen. She doesn’t let anyone help unless it’s forced on her. She trusts no one and I am thinking it that might be because she was manipulated into being that way.” I jump out of the car effectively ending the conversations.Copyright ©️ 2025 Miss L Writes and Ember Mantel Productions“Ah! I get it now.” Tommy meets me at the back to the SUV so we can switch out with the next patrol. And he is apparently not done talking about this.“I’m almost afraid to ask. What do you get?” I ask ripping my shirt off and throwing it into the back.“You are a control freak with a hero complex. You live for this sh*t!” He laughs at me, stripping completely, shifting and taking off before I can even respond. Ass
27 - Elara“Ben?!” I’m still looking like maybe he didn’t leave.“Yep..”“What?” Then I look at Jax, who does not look ashamed at all, holding his phone. His eyebrows are raised in a challenge.I just glare.“El, do me a favor would you.”I sigh, “What’s that Ben?”“Take a walk, some deep breaths might help you see the situation better.” I look up sharply at my warriors. That is Ben’s code for when he thinks someone might be listening. I tilt my head to them and take the phone to keep playing along until we are sure. We each take a section of the room. I have cleared as much unnecessary sh*t out of my dad’s office as possible to give them fewer places to hide devices, but someone is still getting in. I have my guesses now that we have started systematically eliminating suspects. We just have to catch them in the act or nothing will happen. That’s been my dad’s problem all along, concrete proof. Ben keeps chattering on about where to keep looking for trails, what he thinks I need to do f
26 - ElaraHe left. He just f*cking left. Did I expect to find him in bed with me when I woke up? No.“Yes.” My wolf calls me out on my lie, but I won’t acknowledge it. I don’t know if I have ever been vulnerable with anyone like that before. I let him take full control and use me how he wanted and it was all to my benefit. He got nothing out of the interaction. Maybe that’s why he’s gone. He didn’t want reciprocation, he just knew to use the bond against me to force me to rest and rest I did. I was unconscious for the rest of the day and that entire night. I only woke to the rhythmic pounding of my best friends using our joining wall as leverage as the sun broke over the treeline and I checked my phone for the time. The erotic sounds elicit my own memories and I let them pull me under as I explore my body and loose myself in the memory of Ben and his wolf ravaging me.When we all seem to be satisfied, and quiet, I reluctantly climb out of bed and head to the shower, only to be accost
25 - BenMy wolf has never taken over my human form like that before. I didn’t fight him very hard for control once the cord of tension snapped between Elara and I. We both knew she wasn’t going to rest without force and it was either sedate her or wear her out. He chose wear her out. It was too tempting with her standing there looking fierce, dripping wet asking to be taken care of with out words. We both needed it and my wolf was tired of waiting for us to pull our heads out of our asses. He didn’t force me to kiss her or mate with her, which I appreciated and I’m sure she would too. We aren’t there yet and there needs to be an actual conversation, I won’t force her to mate with me, sealing the bond and kissing just feels too intimate right now, another thing we aren't ready for. I find Jax and Dev in the hallway smiling like idiots as I quietly walk out of her room. “She’s asleep.” I say stupidly, but there isn’t anything else to say and I need them to stop looking at me like that.
