ELENA'S POV,The air felt suffocating as I walked down the long corridor of the Lunar Palace. Every step I took echoed in my ears, as if the sound was bouncing off the high, marble walls. I could feel my nerves tightening with each stride, but I kept my head high and looked forward confidently. Ryan was walking beside me, and his presence was giving me the strength I needed at that moment. I was terrified when I got the letter summoning me to the Palace, before the Wolf Committee. Ryan calmed me down and helped me practice how I should present myself in front of the Committee. As we turned a corridor I noticed that his hands were shoved deep in his pockets, and his jaw was clenched. I know what was going through his head, and how much he disagreed with the laws of the nation. However, he was powerless in the situation, and the best he could do was support me from the sidelines. “Remember, you’re strong, and even if I'm not allowed to speak, to defend you, to shield you from whateve
RYAN’S POV,I just entered my office after having a heavy lunch—prepared by Elena—when my phone started ringing.I checked the caller ID to find out it was William, an old friend and my representative in the Wolf's Committee. We rarely used to get the opportunity to converse, like in old times. We only had our scheduled meetings that happened twice each month. And in those meetings, we discussed the matters related to the nation and my opinions about the committee's decisions on several matters. So, I thought he called to catch up and started the conversation in a jolly voice. Asking him how he was doing, and if he was calling to invite me for a drink. It kind of was our ritual to meet in a nice bar and talk about our problems. Since hanging out with him wasn't a regular occurrence because of our work, I treasured those little moments we got. I was expecting him to name the new bar he saw while driving, or heard about from someone in the Committee.Instead, when William spoke, I notic
JULIAN'S POV,“It could have been an email, but I wanted to bring it in front of the committee myself,” I said, and just like I hoped, I finally had their attention.“And why's that?” Jasper asked, despite already knowing the entire thing. He was playing into it a little too much, and the others had already started to see through his act. One of them, a young man to the right with copper hair, scoffed, seeing the fake curiosity in Jasper's words. His eyes were telling me that he wasn't interested in hearing anything more.“I needed to be heard properly.” I further added, as practiced yesterday. “The emotions... my emotions, they couldn't be translated properly via an email. And today I don't just want you to hear me, but also to understand the gravity of my situation.”“What urgent matter requires the full attention of the committee?” the man with the copper hair asked. He looked barely older than me, and I saw disdain in his eyes towards me. “We have other important matters to handle
JULIAN'S POV The gates of the Lunar Palace loomed ahead, wrought iron twisted into crescents and swords separated the marble palace from the outside world. The sound of the cars, and commotion of the city dimmed the moment I drove past those iron gates. The giant fortification seemed to hush the world beyond. There were two paths in front of me, the white stone one leading towards the temple of half-moon, and the grey one went straight to the Palace. There was a parking lot near the entrance where I had to park, because no visiting cars were allowed past that point. It wasn't a problem when my father was alive, because back then our cars stayed in the same underground parking as the members of the wolf committee, even when he wasn't a part. “One day, I'll have the same power and influence like him,” I told myself, and continued walking on the sidewalk confidently with a stern face. I moved silently, looking all around myself and feeling the weight of eyes on me from every cor
ELENA'S POV, His arms were wrapped around me, they were heavy but not suffocating. I blinked, feeling nauseous due to the faint glow of morning light passing through the heavy curtains on the balcony and his tight grip. I tried to move a little, to fix my clothes before pulling away from him. I was being extra careful not to wake him up, because I feared the embarrassment of him seeing me in his arms would eat me alive. I turned to loosen myself because my back was pressed against his chest tightly, and beneath the blanket, our legs had tangled together sometime during the night. Getting it untangled without waking him up was a challenge on its own. When his grip loosened around me enough to make me move freely, I tried to pull my legs. I startled all of a sudden, though not enough to wake Ryan. I tensed from the shock when something else struck me—Ollie wasn’t in the bed with us. Panic surged through my entire body, and it was sharp and sudden. But before I could have los
ELENA'S POV, It had been days since I’d walked into Ryan’s room unannounced, to find him only in his briefs. Days since I caught an unintended glimpse of his bare body—strong back, broad shoulders, muscular arms, and the taut muscle lines across his chest and stomach. Still, the images were yet to leave me. I hated myself for how clearly I could see it in my dreams. How easily it returned to me every time I was around him. At this point, it started to be a problem because every time we passed each other in the hallway, or when he leaned over Ollie’s shoulder to help her with a puzzle, all I could see was his naked body. And for sure he knew it too, because whenever our eyes locked, he would laugh with his head tilted just slightly back. As if he could read my thoughts and was teasing me for imagining things that didn't even happen in reality. I saw him naked for a few seconds, but my brain started creating hour-long stories from those few seconds. I was flustered all the time.
