CHAPTER 1: BIRTHDAY

ELENA’S POV,The sweet scent of vanilla and sugar filled our small kitchen as I decorated the cake with flower petals made of chocolate. My hands moved steadily, despite the thunderstorm in my chest. I was getting emotional because it was my daughter Molly's third birthday, and seeing her jumping around with joy warmed my heart. It was a huge milestone for both of us because it had been three years of her bright laughter filling my life. She made me feel like the luckiest woman in the world. “Mommy, will Daddy come back today to celebrate?” Molly came running into the kitchen. Her big, innocent eyes stared at me for the answer. I forced a smile on my lips and nodded my head. “Of course, sweetheart. Don't you remember, Daddy promised that he'll bring you lots of gifts?”She giggled and went back into the living room to tell her dolls about it. Julian, my husband and the Alpha of our Black Stone Pack, was loved by everyone for his unwavering dedication to the pack. I admired him for

CHAPTER 2: ROGUES

ELENA'S POV,I couldn't remember how long we stayed in the store room, hiding behind the wooden crates of dried roots. I was terrified for my daughter and worried about what the rogues might do to her. This was supposed to be her special day, one filled with joy, not fear. She was trembling in my arms, and that made me feel helpless and weak. I was trying to hold back my tears for her, but nothing worked. It was painful to wait for help while danger hovered over our heads. I knew I needed a plan because we couldn't wait forever, but nothing came to mind.My thoughts were paralyzed. In the dark corner of the room, I counted each minute passing, holding Molly and whispering false promises. There wasn't anything else I could have done because I didn't know how many wolves were outside, and what they wanted with us.I tried looking for something that could be used as a weapon when I heard them.At first, the footsteps were of a single wolf that started getting closer and closer, and then

CHAPTER 3: HOSPITAL

ELENA'S POV,I stood by Molly’s bed, praying to the Moon Goddess to heal my daughter.Machines beeped steadily in the background as I looked down at her fragile body beneath the white sheets. She looked pale and lifeless. I gripped the edge of the cold hospital bed as if it were the only thing keeping me from collapsing on the floor.Kai asked a nurse to do my bandages, even when I told him I didn't need anyone to waste their time looking after me. The doctors agreed with Kai, saying I had lost too much blood, and it wouldn't be good for me if I left the wounds untreated. But I didn't care about myself. I couldn't, in that situation.None of them got me, they only acted like they did.The doctor who was treating Molly approached quietly. “Luna Elena, your daughter is temporarily stable. But she's not out of danger yet. She needs more help.”“Not out of danger?” I asked, ignoring the stings on my shoulders whenever I moved. “What does that supposed to mean?”“She needs Dr. Jenna's help

CHAPTER 4: PRIORITY

ELENA'S POV,I awoke to a faint beeping sound, and the sharp scent of antiseptics invaded my nostrils. I was confused, unsure of what happened or where I was. As I began to regain consciousness, I felt a burning sensation in my throat, as if someone was rubbing sandpaper from the inside.I clutched my neck, trying to move, but my limbs felt too heavy. The pounding in my head intensified as I opened my eyes. The plain white walls of the hospital welcomed me, and as soon as I remembered my meeting with Julian, panic surged through me. I was terrified because there was only one name echoing in my head.“Molly…”I sat up and looked around frantically, ignoring the pain coursing through my muscles. I felt like throwing up, but stopped myself and turned my head slowly, towards my right, when I noticed a bed in my peripheral vision. Somehow, I knew it was my angel. I could feel her, without even seeing.Lying in the hospital bed beside mine. Her face was so pale it nearly blended into the pi

CHAPTER 5: LAUREN

ELENA'S POV,Lucy was able to sit up on her own and talk while Molly was unconscious. I knew Molly needed Dr. Jenna more than Lucy; anyone could see that. Anyone but Alpha Julian. I observed them through the doorlight as Lucy's little face flushed, but animatedly as she clutched her stuffed toy. Soon, I realized Dr. Jenna was playing with her. Lauren was sitting beside her daughter, laughing carelessly. She was brushing Lucy's hair with the love and care a mother has only when she was convinced that the worst had passed. Lucy seemed healthy enough, but Molly wasn't. She was still in danger, engulfed by darkness. I knocked once when I was ready and stepped inside the room. “Elena!” Lauren stood up, surprised to see me in her daughter's ward. She looked at Dr. Jenna before turning her gaze back at me. “What brought you here? Julian didn't tell me you'll be paying a visit.” “Luna,” Dr. Jenna bowed her head as per the custom, while Lauren stood awkwardly in her corner. “I am here to

CHAPTER 6: HATE

ELENA'S POV,The red stained my palms. It was Molly's blood. My angel's blood, all over my blouse. She was in my arms, but didn't move once she stopped vomiting. I tried calling her name again and again while screaming for help, but she didn't respond. Her eyes were open, and I could hear her heartbeat getting faint. “HELP!” I screamed once again, and the nurses and her doctor rushed into the room. “Luna! What?!” The doctor saw Molly in my arms, and his face turned pale. “We have to get her to the emergency room.”One of the nurses pulled me down the bed while the other two took it out of the room. My head was spinning, and my ears were still ringing; everything sounded distant. I had no idea what was happening. I didn't understand what they were saying, but I knew I had to be with her. They rushed her away from the room, pushing her bed down the hallway. I followed blindly, stumbling after them like a madwoman. The fear was clutching my heart, and only the worst came to my mind. I

CHAPTER 7: FOREVER

ELENA'S POV,Black smoke rose quietly into the grey sky from the small chimney built at the very end of the crematorium, which was an hour away from the pack. I was standing inside the old building, all alone, waiting for my turn while looking outside through the glass window. It was about to rain soon, I felt it when I woke up that morning. The wind was cold against my cheeks, though I couldn't tell if it was the breeze I felt or the numbness that had taken over my entire body. I felt empty somehow and broken from the inside. The pain of her absence was getting unbearable with every passing second. The lightning flashed in the clouds, making me turn away from the window, and my eyes fell on the wooden coffin sitting next to me. Molly was inside it, finally resting, far from the pain and suffering my little angel had to endure over the last few days. But she fought bravely... till her last breath, she fought, and I couldn't be more proud of her.“Are you ready, Luna?” The man in a bla

CHAPTER 8: NEW LIFE

ELENA'S POV,The new place I moved into was small, quiet, and nothing like the Alpha house of the Blackstone pack that I left behind. Although the apartment was barely enough for one person, it was everything a mother grieving the death of her daughter needed. Most importantly, it was mine, and under my roof, I wasn't answerable to anyone for anything. I had no titles to wear, or duties to uphold. I was finally free from the shackles that had been keeping me down for years, under the disguise of being Alpha Julian's trophy wife.Thankfully, I was far from the pack politics, surrounded by only silence that I very much needed. I wasn't sure if I could ever heal from the loss, and the urn sitting on the nightstand reminded me of the horrible truth of her departure.I hadn’t unpacked either of the bags. Molly’s things stayed sealed, untouched in one corner, because I couldn’t bear to open them. The thought of holding my daughter’s favourite blanket or seeing her tiny shoes made my stomach
