I watched as all eyes turned toward Gideon. He rose slowly, his expression carefully composed as he stepped forward to face Damon.

“My king, don’t listen to her. I don’t know what she’s talking about.” Gideon said, his voice steady but his eyes betraying unease.

I narrowed my gaze. I could feel the lie in his words. There was more to this; far more than met the eye.

“Gideon, how dare you! I’m carrying your pup, and you know it!” Joyce suddenly shouted, her voice sharp and furious.

“Joyce, because the king rejected you, now you want to put your bastard child on me? Pathetic, Guards take her away. Carry out the king’s order.” Gideon scoffed, turning toward the guards.

The guards moved to obey, but Damon’s voice cut through the air like steel. “Stop.”

They froze at once. The tension in the room is rising.
