Chapter 8

Lisa

I woke up feeling cozier than usual. A familiar warmth wrapped around my body, and all I could do was let myself drown in its comfort. However, just as I was about to close my eyes a second time, I suddenly became aware of a strong arm draped protectively around me. Turning cautiously, I found herself face to face with Klaus. He was seraphic as always, even in his sleep. I took a minute to admire every arc of his face, before finally returning to reality.

Frantically, I raced out of bed, and only then did Klaus's eyes open lazily.

"What did you do to me?!" I yelled out as soon as he sat upright on the bed. With a look of shock, I inspected myself thoroughly, and after two minutes of silence and skepticism, I finally came to conclude that he hadn't touched me.

"What were you thinking? That I took advantage of you in your sleep?" Klaus asked with an arched brow, a look of disgust etched on every corner of his handsome face. It was wrong for me to jump to conclusions the way I'd done, but I really couldn't be blamed for my actions. He had threatened to have his way with me from the very second he took me from Mark, what else was I supposed to think in this situation?

"I..I'm sorry." I squeezed out, and watched as Klaus rolled his eyes exhaustedly. Lazily, he got down from the bed, and without saying another word to me, entered the bathroom. I stood still for a while, unsure of what to do next. However, after five minutes of silence, Klaus popped half of his body out the bathroom door to give me new information.

"Prepare yourself, we'll be meeting with the elders today. Don't act irrational while they're here."

I wanted to contest his words and say that I didn't act irrational, but he retracted his body quicker than I could open my mouth. After thirty long minutes of sitting in silence, Klaus finally appeared from the bathroom, all fresh and wet. Again, he didn't speak to me, he merely got himself dried, got clothed, and immediately exited the room.

I felt relieved that he was gone, but the eerie silence was not what I was used to. Even though I wanted him away from me, he was the only one who provided any sort of entertainment in my life at the moment.

I sat on the bed, unsure of what to do next. I was scared of leaving the room, what if I ran into Maeve? Or even get in trouble with one of these maids. I saw the dirty looks they flashed at me from time to time, it was clear they didn't like my guts, and I knew exactly why. Just like them, I used to be a nobody. However, my life had changed so suddenly, and most of them were jealous of me. Each time I saw the disdainful looks on their faces I always laughed, for some reason they believed that I was happy with this life, they had no idea how badly I wished for us to switch places.

A knock on the door distracted me from my thoughts, and without asking for permission, a familiar figure stepped into the room with a bright smile plastered across the face.

"Your grace.." He addressed me before lowering his head in respect.

A wave of embarrassment immediately coursed through my entire body, and I just sat there red with unease. I recognized the man before me, he was Klaus's friend, Damon, if I could remember correctly. It felt awkward for a man of his caliber to treat me with so much respect, it wasn't something I was used to.

"It's Lisa." I corrected sharply before turning my head away from his bright eyes. Unlike Klaus, there was no air of hostility around Damon, he seemed pure, and the smile on his face made him even more inviting.

"You're mated to the Alpha now, he would kill me if I don't accord you the respect you deserve." Damon replied, but I was certain he was lying. Klaus couldn't care less about what anybody called me. All he was after was what I could give him, he didn't care one bit about what I wanted.

I decided not to further the conversation, he was definitely up to something for him to visit in Klaus's absence, and I wanted to know what he wanted from me.

"Can I help you with anything?" I asked with as much confidence that I could muster. Showing my weakness in front of people I weren't familiar with wouldn't be a good idea. This one respected me at least, and I would love for it to remain that way.

"Klaus instructed me to be your guide for today. He wants me to teach you how to be more aristocratic."

Finally I turned to Damon and met his gaze with an arched brow. "I don't need lessons, I don't need anything." I made it clear before turning away once more.

"I understand your frustration, but as queen, it is necessary that people see you as the queen you are—"

"I don't want to be queen! I don't want any of this!" I bursted out. My sudden outburst had taken him by surprise, but his composure remained unbroken. I was letting out my frustration on him, yet the smile on his face failed to fade.

"As you wish, my lady." He finally yielded, but he clearly wasn't done. "If you're ready, then I'd be more than happy to take you to the dining room, breakfast is ready."

I heard my stomach growl the moment he mentioned breakfast. Thanks to last night's drama I didn't eat at my own mating party, nor did I bother to eat after the party. I had been so occupied with getting away from Klaus that I completely forgot that I hadn't eaten.

"Give me a moment." I instructed before rushing into the bathroom for a minor ablution. After that, Damon led the way towards the dining room, and as we walked, I couldn't help but notice the smile on his face steadily growing brighter.

"Is something the matter?" I asked as we neared the designated location.

"A special guest is joining us for breakfast, I'm merely ecstatic about getting to know him." He answered sharply and only then did I shift my attention from his face. I figured it must be one of the elders, Klaus had mentioned that we'd be meeting them after all.

However, upon stepping into the dining room, my appetite immediately disappeared, and all I could do was glare in horror at the sight before me. Bound to the foot of the large dining table was the bloodied body of the man I loved.

"Mark?!"

Chapter 15Icarus I had expected her a lot sooner, but even this timing was perfect for me. Although hurt and full of rage, I could still tell that Maeve was being extremely cautious of me. Klaus had probably warned her to stay away from me, but she had grown too desperate, and had clearly ignored those words of advice. "It's been far too long Maeve, what brings you here?" I inquired while I gestured for her to settle beside me. She obeyed, but didn't exactly sit on the designated spot I had pointed out for her. I knew why she was here, and I knew exactly what she wanted. I had walked into her crying on the day of Klaus and Lisa's mating night, and I had taken my time to exploit her at that moment. She had pushed me away, but that was after I had planted seeds of doubt in her head, and dropped down my address for her. Maeve was in love with Klaus, that much was evident, and she was an obsessive lover. Klaus on the other hand had only agreed to be with Maeve just to foster a good re

Chapter 14Lisa "I....I..it's you!" I squeezed out in a fake enraged tone. "You take me away from the man I love, keep me locked up in this place, and then you ask me who hurt me?"Klaus shrunk back in shock, he hadn't expected my answer, and definitely didn't expect my outburst. He had been genuinely worried for my safety, but for Mark's sake this was the only option I could come up with. Klaus couldn't know that I had gone to visit Mark, he wouldn't take that information very well. And he couldn't know that Mark was the reason I was crying, that would only make things worse. "Push me away all you want, you still can't change the fact that you're my mate, and I'm yours!" Klaus shot back at me. "When are you going to accept reality and move on?!" He yelled before turning away from my teary eyes. At first I assumed it was a bloodstain, but after close observation, I finally managed to confirm that it was indeed lipstick. It was stuck just behind the collar of his shirt and I was cer

Chapter 13Lisa The moment Klaus left the room, I immediately jumped down from the bed and hurried to the clinic once more. I just couldn't sit aside while Mark was busy fighting for his life. With the help of some guards, I was able to find my way to the clinic. And the moment I arrived, I raced straight to Mark's room without asking for the nurse's permission. Mark was awake when I arrived, and unlike before, he wasn't coated in bandages and syringes. His healing speed had regained its output, and most of the injuries were already gone. I had a bright smile on my face as I approached his bed, but the same couldn't be said for Mark. At first he pretended like he hadn't seen me enter the room, and when he could no longer ignore my presence, he turned his face away from me. "Don't do that Mark, we both know I didn't have a choice." I pleaded with him, but he wasn't exactly listening."What are you doing here then, if you didn't have a choice? You shut me down for him! You've clearly

Chapter 12Klaus After my discussion with Lisa had ended, I took her back to the room, and after showing her the most affection I could, left the room for the study. Since her arrival I had been working from home, and it hadn't exactly been easy. Even though I didn't exactly care for her, I didn't want to leave my newly wedded bride for work just days after our wedding. She wasn't fully accustomed to the place, and with Maeve roaming the castle, I just couldn't leave her alone just yet. "Any recent developments?" I inquired from Damon as I settled behind one of the tables. Damon had already gotten to work the moment I dismissed him from the dining table. At the moment he was the one running everything about the company, and he was doing a terrific job. "Not much, except for the fact that we might lose a valuable investment if you don't return to work soon. Zenith Cooperation refused to sign the papers, they want a face to face meeting with the CEO before they can further the contra

  • The Alpha’s secret baby   Chapter 11

Chapter 11Lisa I sat beside Klaus, and the only reason why I hadn't been scolded and kicked out was merely because Klaus was seated by my side. To these men, my status as the Alpha's bride meant nothing to them. All they could see when they looked at me was an omega who wasn't worth anything, and that was evident in their eyes. To them I was nothing more than one of the hungry ladies that roamed the streets, I had only gotten lucky, and luck didn't matter to them one bit. All five of the elders before me had smiles on their faces, but their happiness had nothing to do with me. They were merely happy that Klaus had found his mate, and that they wouldn't have to worry about getting disbanded and losing their worth to Icarus. "We've gotten the mating ceremony done, is she with child yet?" One of the elders asked, his greedy eyes wide with expectations. "Not yet, we've decided to take things slow for now. Lisa is not yet accustomed to this type of life yet." Klaus answered before rea

  • The Alpha’s secret baby   Chapter 10

Chapter 10KlausI stared at her in anticipation for a reply. It was a difficult thing to ask of her, but it was necessary for my plan to work out. It would be impossible for her to love me if she remained romantically attached to someone else. I wanted to be the main focus of her love life, and for that to work, it was necessary that the idea of Mark becoming her lover in the distant future was completely vanquished."Do you promise that Lisa? You can't love him, nor can you accept his love. We're married now, we should focus on each other." I urged, and only then did she manage to speak. "What about Maeve? Will you continue to love her?" Her voice was a whisper, yet it was heavy with emotions. I hadn't expected her to throw that question at me, yet I was happy she did. I might be playing a game with her at the moment, but it wouldn't be fun if she wasn't playing along. I started my reply with a simple shake of the head. "Now that we're together, Maeve is no longer my lover." I cla

Chapter 9LisaWithout care for the people in the room, I rushed towards Mark's unconscious body and lifted him into my arms. Tears gathered around my eyes as I inspected his wounded body. He was still alive, but wasn't doing very good. His body was already cold to the touch, and death would become inevitable if he didn't get medical attention soon. "What did you do? What did you do to him?!" I questioned roughly as my tears began to drop. "The guards found him trying to sneak into the castle. And when he was caught he had the audacity to fight back and soil the name of the Alpha. Normally I would have beheaded him by now, but since he's a friend of yours, it wouldn't be fair to execute him without letting you say your goodbyes." Klaus answered coldly, his voice empty and hollow as he spoke. It was more than clear that he meant every word he said, and he was ready to kill Mark the very moment I let go of him. "Please don't hurt him, he's the only one I have left." I pleaded, and on

  • The Alpha’s secret baby   Chapter 7

Chapter 7KlausLisa pushed back against me anytime I attempted to get closer. I could smell her fear, yet her determination to keep me away prevailed over her fear of me. She wasn't as weak as I had made her out to be, and a part of me was proud of her. I had watched her confrontation with Maeve from the window and had sent Rudolph to fetch her. I expected her to sit still and take Maeve's bullying, but she had actually fought back, and for that brief moment I felt proud of my mate for the first time. "I won't let you do what you want with me! Even if you go on with this, I'll keep killing your babies until the day I die!" She yelled out in a shaky tone, and only then did I pull away from the unrequited embrace. I glared at her with rage in my eyes. Did she just threaten to kill my children? Maybe I had heard wrongly, surely she hadn't developed the guts to threaten the Alpha. "What did you just say?" I questioned in a calm, yet serious tone. I wanted to make sure I had heard her
