XADEN

“Don’t tell me what to do.”

"Really?" I smirked to cover up the way my hands still shook from holding her.

"It was easy to get rid of that shitty husband of yours but you didn't"

Her face went blank, then anger surfaced as she pointed the gun to me.

Then I raised my hands up, teasingly.

"Where you sent to assassinate me? This was what I got from playing the good guy. Fuck that"

Silence.

"I thought of reconsidering" I added "Since you're too beautiful for the job"

She shot a bullet in the air, and I didn't cower.

"Xaden"

I hated my name, but the way she called it low and pissed sent something dangerous down my spine.

"Yes darling?" I smiled deviously.

Her eyes flashed with anger but my smile faded as I'd heard footsteps. Three of them, moving through the trees.

They weren't running but hunting.

I let out a whistle that sounded more like a seduction and immediately, she turned back-to-back with me.

The first masked man stepped out, gun raised.

Veralin fired first.

The shot went wide, but it was enough. The man ducked and I moved, caught him in the throat, and put him down.

The second came for me. I took him low, drove him into a tree.

The third went for her.

I saw it half a second too late.

He had a knife. She was reloading, shivering. She wouldn’t make it and my heart stopped.

Hastily I'd blocked it and the knife slid into my side instead of hers.

The pain hits like a burning flame. I caught the man’s wrist, broke it, and put him down with my fist.

When I looked up, Veralin was over me, sweat beading her forehead as she quaked.

“Xaden?"

I gritted my teeth and pressed a hand to my side. It came away wet.

Blood and I didn't want to believe what I was seeing in those eyes.

“Don’t look at me like that,” I muttered. “i'm fine"

“You’re bleeding!”

“I’ve had worse.” I snapped, mad at everything now.

But she scurried closer to me, helped me sit up. Veralin cursed at me under her breathe.

She placed her palm on mine, ripped a part of her dress to curb the bleeding.

While she did everything in a rush, only tingles flushed down my skin with every touch.

I actually hate her but ended up inhaling her hair with eyes closed.

“Why did you—? You could have died!” I snapped my eyes open, before she tilted her head to stare at me.

“Yeah,” I replied, void of emotions. “And you would have.”

She stared at me like I’d just slapped her.

"You're bleeding too..."

"Not as deep as yours" she mused. I'd almost given a response when another footstep set our gaze to the trees. A fourth, this time, the rogue appeared more confident.

“Leave the enforcer. The girl is the target.” he ordered.

My lips curved upward as she looked startled by my act.

"I guess you're stealing the spotlight now"

She took her hand off me and carried the gun, like she could save me.

How I want those hands to remain on me.

The rogue lunged towards her but she was swift to shift from me, causing him to land on me.

That was hard.

His claws accidentally dug into my flesh. I grunt. His brows furrowed as he realized it was his end and I dug my claws into his chest to pull out his heart.

Shit!

"You'd be the death of me veralin!"

I tossed the dead rogue off me, my claws morph back to normal fingers.

She returned, wiping her palms as she stretched her hand to grab me.

"But you didn't die" she responded, still petrified and beckoning me to be quick.

For half a second, I almost took it. My fingers twitched. Not because I wanted her help but because I wanted her.

Then I stood up on my own. Because taking her hand meant I was weak.

And if I was weak around her, I'd lose her again.

Just like last time.

I know what comes after beautiful skies, after the birds’ evening songs fade and the sun disappears beyond the trees, darkness comes and with darkness comes fear.I sit on the forest floor, my back pressed to the muddy wall of a ditch. My slightly curled dark-brown hair sticks to my forehead, greasy and tangled from hours of running.I have no idea of how long I've been running as my legs have protested and given up.My bag lies somewhere behind me, half-buried in the mud. I tried reaching for it earlier, but the excruciating on my ankle increases and had me falling back down.I shut my eyes, convincing myself to breath but my lungs were loosing air rather and my heart scamper. There's no thought in my mind as tears cloud my eyes. Hastily, my eyes grooved on the table and the airport video was paused on the screen. Everything that happened was on display like we were being monitored. Was this what I'd face? For my life to be followed? But the part they paused was when seven's arm went around my middle, his lips on mine. I scrunched my face, as I'd turned really red with shyness? I just couldn't tell. The woman folded her arms over her chest. “Tell us about your relationship with Seven.”My wolf whimpered, gritting her teeth. “We're doomed.” The words weren't forming when I opened my mouth and my wolf winced, unsettled. Why the kiss though? “I—” “You don't have to explain the kiss,” chris interrupted. “The entire campus has already seen it.” My hand instinctively went behind my head and I developed a cold feet. “It isn't what you think.” Three pairs of eyes remained fixed on me as they seem to be anticipating.“Then what is it?” Charise muttered and I inhaled. A fake relationship wasn't exa

"urgh... ahh" I was clutching the blanket, rolling around on the bed. My breasts kept bouncing as I sucked my breath feeling all recess and my pussy throbbed.I grinned up at him, recklessly but when he lifted his head, my grin fell right off my face as fear crept in.His eyes... they weren't his usual brown. They'd gone this weird bruised color, mauve, like when you get hit and it hasn't turned purple yet.His mouth opened slightly and I jerked as his teeth were too long, quite pointed.I tried to scramble back, tried to scream, but he lifted his hand, his nails had grown long, like claws coming straight for my face."AHHH!"I yanked up from the bed, gripping anything my hands to get hold of and panting heavily.I was covered in sheet as I tried to tell myself it was a dream. The walls felt like they were becoming a matrix and it took a while before I could get a vivid picture of the white wall staring at me.My brain recoiled as I scanned the place, wondering where I was but my brea

“I love you.”I whispered it to my phone before kissing the picture on my screen with a cheeky smile on.Once the voice message sent, I'd placed back the phone into my purse and exit the airport gate.I was finally here, at London. My mind had imagined this moment so many times that my chest fluttered. As soon as I was out, the cold breeze swept pass my face and there was an unfamiliar scent of rain in it.I smiled despite the ache in my feet as xaiver had no idea I was coming. That part mattered because I'd picture his face when I appeared at his suite. He'd stare at me for a while before pulling me into his arms and I'd chuckle against his chest for making such a fuss.Instinctively, my fingers rubbed the engagement ring on my hand. Yes, I loved that man.The exact reason I was willing to surprise him all the way in London. My eyes scrolled through the crowd for the person sent to pick me up.The noise wasn't something to write home about but fortunately, I spotted him.He was a you

He suddenly looked anxious and his skin flushed. He took out the bead on his wrist and placed it next to a plate of grilled chicken that I was eating."This is my lucky charm, you can keep it"I shifted my gaze to it, it was a bead with letters on it and metal tags hanging out."Miracles happens when you believe" my eyes read and swallowing the meat in my mouth was difficult.I pushed it back to him, with no response but he didn't take it, rather, he stood upright with a smile.Nothing of what I do provokes him."Well, so I'm done here, just yell my name if you need anything"He checked me with his eyes. "Do have a lovely day doc"I didn't want him to leave, because he cracked my gloomy shell for a moment but then he left before I could react. As soon as he was gone, I turned around and realized I was in a castle. How the fuck did he transform my room?I felt impressed, still munching my mouth. After eating, I forgot I was heading to the lab but went to the rink, believing to see him.

The fragrance was the first to caress my nose, lavender and caramel. I threw my gaze to the door only to find a woman walking inside. She looked elegant and poised. Her clothes were expensive without trying to announce it, and her expression carried an authority that connotes silence.I recognized her immediately because the TV never fails to announce her.Seven's mother, the Luna. The chills increased and like a magnet pulled me up to join the rest in standing. She didn't acknowledge anyone, her eyes fell on me and the warmth I'd felt a moment ago vanished.“What's she doing here?” she questioned and even her voice commanded fear.Charise stood straighter. "Your Majesty, we were just concluding—”“Concluding?” the Luna cut off narrowing her eyes. She didn't leave that spot as her eyes were gawking at me. My mind was void and I ducked my head low to avoid being burnt my her.But my wolf felt troubled and she was barking at her. I swear I tried to silence her just so the Luna wouldn't
