Chapter 7

Avery's POV

The stinging feeling of a slap landed on my cheeks and I fell to the ground. I didn't know how to react after he slapped me. I didn't know if I should cry or just keep quiet.

"So you started disobeying orders and sneaking out with him right? Well, well done Avery. Cheapen yourself and make just anyone take you out when you have a mate." He said with a scorn and I scoffed, looking up at him.

"I don't have a mate, you rejected me, remember?" I said and he looked down at me in disbelief. "I don't understand why you are treating me like this. Let's just return to before you ever knew I was your mate. I was invisible to you and you were to me. I'm begging you." I pleaded with tears rolling down my cheeks.

I didn't understand why he wasn't acting like this at all. If he wants me or wants to claim I am his mate when he sees me with another man, then he should have just accepted the mate bond.

A devilish smirk appeared on his lips as he squatted before me and grabbed my chin harshly. "How naive you are Avery. You dare to question what I want and what I am doing? Because Devon is giving you attention, you think you are on top of the world now?"

He tightened his grip around my chin as his smile grew even wider. "You think when he lures you away, he wouldn't treat you worse than I am right now? Yes I want you Avery but you are way below my league and I cannot be seen with you who can't even access her own wolf." As soon as he said that, something snapped in me and I pushed him away.

"You made it happen. I wish I was never your mate in the first place. Because of you, I didn't get to bond with my wolf before you breaking the mate bond made her disappear." I screamed with tears rolling down my cheeks and he stood up, wiping the side of his lips.

"It's not your fault. Alpha Devon is leaving in two days, and you will not set eyes on him one bit till he leaves." He said as he walked towards the table where I kept my keys.

"You can't do that to me." I said as I crawled after him, grabbing his leg and he looked down at me.

"I knew it, you already like that good for nothing man. I would not let that happen under my watch. You are mine, Avery. My mate or now, I own you." He said as he slipped away, locking the door behind him.

I banged on the door, yelling at him to open the door but he wasn't even listening to me at all. Fresh tears started rolling down my cheeks as I curled up in a ball. I don't know why I have to live like this. Why can't I be like everyone else, without a problem like this and free to live?"

I slowly crawled over to my bed, burying my face in my pillow as I cried my eyes out. When I thought my miserable life would be better, the moon goddess had to give me a monster of a mate who doesn't even care about my feelings or anything.

More tears rolled down my cheeks and I didn't know when I slept off. I woke up again to the sound of my door closing and I looked at the door to see a tray of a proper breakfast placed there.

I haven't had a proper breakfast in years and I wondered why I was brought one this morning. I walked over to it and just then, I realized I wasn't in my basement room. I looked around confused to realize I was in the room just right next to Lucien 's. I knew this because he used to ask me to clean up the room.

I was taken aback. Even Stella wasn't given any room in his quarters and now he was putting me in one? He was confusing me and I hated it. I gently sat in front of my food at the door and started to eat the food hurriedly.

I didn't eat last night and I had to fill myself up and be sorry later if it was a mistake for bringing the food over to me. I couldn't remember how meat tasted and now I was eating and savoring one, which almost made me cry.

If my mother hadn't abandoned me while I was young, maybe I would have a better life and not have to live like a beggar now. I wiped my tears with the back of my hand as I hurriedly ate the food, before going to the bathroom.

I looked around for what to wear and when I opened the wardrobe, I saw a set of new clothes in there. I immediately closed the door to the wardrobe.

"They aren't mine. I shouldn't touch them." I said. I knew if I touched them, Lucien would kill me. And as I thought about him, the door was unlocked again and he stepped in, running his fingers through his hair.

"So you're awake." He said with a smirk. "Good, and you ate the food. I thought you would act like your lowly self and not eat it." He said mockingly as a maid walked in to pack the tray.

He turned to leave before looking back at me. "And the clothes are yours. The rags you wear hurt my eyes." He slammed the door and I clenched my fists angrily but I swallowed hard.

The day passed by slowly and I didn't know what was happening on the outside at all.

Soon, the door opened again and I was expecting Lucien or a maid, but Donovan stepped in, with a tray of food with him and a bright smile.

"Uncle Donovan ." I said, rushing over to him. He was the only good news I've seen today.

"Listen to me carefully, Avery. I should not be here but, run. Go with Devon . He will treat you better than Lucien is. Lucien is a monster and very soon, he will get rid of you."
