CHAPTER TWO

/THE ALPHA’S SECOND CHOICE- A Bid To Hate/

~02- In The Beginning~

^EMMA’s POINT OF VIEW^

It all started when my father told me we were having a visitor. He specifically told my sister to wear the best of her best dresses. My sister had this touch of defiance and was fierce in nature. And I? I was soft and cared about the people around me.

My mother made Reina prepare dishes that were only prepared on special occasions.

Confused, I got into my casual dress and awaited the guests we were expecting. I could notice some sort of look on Tiana’s face and in as much as I asked her what was wrong, she would shrug me off and tell me it was none of my business. Except it was my business and I would have to do it.

“Emma! Tiana! Downstairs now!” She ordered.

I exited my room and was the first to sit with my parents while Reina had to go fetch my sister.

From that, I knew there was something wrong but I said nothing.

The door bell rang and Tiana jumped up, hitting her hand against the table in the process. I watched her carefully and noticed apprehension on her face.

Why was she anxious?

Reina who answered the door stepped back and the entire living room was suddenly mixed with different masculine auras. One which screamed power, authority, and fear. I almost had myself cowering back.

Three men stepped in. My eyes darted between them, taking note of the way they dressed and all that screamed in my head were Alpha, Beta, and Gamma.

Our pack did not have a Beta and Gamma. Our pack did not have our Alpha oozing with power and fear but these men did.

My eyes fell on the one in the middle who glanced around the house with scrutinizing eyes. His eyes fell on me and my thighs clenched. His brows twitched but he said nothing. My father’s laughter interrupted and he stood up.

“Alpha Kelvin. What a great pleasure.” He smiled even though it was obvious that the smile did not reach his face.

The Alpha he greeted just gave him a small nod. My father extended his hands out, directing him toward the dining room. The men followed him and they took their seats, making themselves comfortable.

“I am glad you agreed to leave what you were doing and meet us for this important issue.” My father started. “You might enjoy your meal now.” He smiled again.

Maybe he should stop smiling because this Alpha was yet to introduce himself.

“Lawrence, get straight to the point,” Kelvin spoke up finally, the two men who followed him paused in the mid air of picking the spoon.

The smile on my father’s face seemed to falter as he sent a glance across to my sister who just lifted her shoulder in a shrug.

My father shook his head. “It is bad courtesy. Since we would be in laws soon, we might as wall get used to each other, right?” He laughed and my mother joined in the nervous laughter while I just sat there, watching it all happen.

We were going to be in laws?

Who was getting married to who?

The Alpha stared at my father for a long time before picking up his spoon, the rest also did the same and Kelvin put the food into his mouth. His face gave away nothing. One could not say if he liked it or not.

After the dinner, my mother had Reina clear the place up and I could feel the air of seriousness and business. I sat upright and my father was no longer smiling.

“I have accepted your proposal. One of my daughters will marry you and you will grant us tight security.” He stated.

A gasp escaped through my lips before I could stop it. Every eye turned to me and I stiffened.

Who was going to get married to him?

Kelvin raised his left brow and I hurriedly reached out for water which my mother passed to me with a reprimanding glare.

“As we have said. Tiana would be the one getting married to you and before you say anything, she has been told. “ He said.

No wonder Tiana has been moody. Father had betrothed her to an Alpha and not her mate.

Even though meeting your mate was considered great, marrying the one you love was gold.

“Good. That is good. Have you discussed the wedding date?” He asked.

My eyes darted between them as I waited to hear the answer from my father. “Yes, we chose three months’ time.” He replied.

Kelvin’s face contorted into an expression of confusion. “What? Three months? That is enough to have your entire legacy and pack wiped out if they plan properly.” He clicked his tongue.

Who was he talking about? Who were planning to wipe us out?

My father gulped hard. “Two months.” He said.

“No, two weeks and that is final.”

“No way!” For the first time, Tiana spoke up. Her hand glued to the table she had hit and she arose, her eyes hard on Kelvin as if she should strangle him.

“Two months.” She spat.

Kelvin gave her a condescending look as he faced my father. “Seems like your daughter needs to be taught manners,” He looked at my mother who shifted under his gaze. My hands slightly reached out for my sister’s hem but she glared daggers at me and I cowered back.

“Lawrence, did you give your daughter the filtered part or the unfiltered part? Because if she knows, she would have fallen to her knees begging me to marry her!” He hissed, anger slowly reeking out of him and I wanted to run into my room and hide.

“Two weeks and it is final. Or you can go about protecting your pack yourself.” He said with a tone of finality as he rose up, the men following him.

Just as they were about to reach the door, my father’s voice stopped him. “We agree! Two weeks and you will have her a bride.” He said.

Kelvin and his men stopped. “Make sure to teach her some manners because she would be needing them when she comes to my pack.” And with that, he stepped out of the room and slammed the door shut, making weird shivers run down my spine.

“Father!” My sister cried but his face was hard like a stone.

“You almost ruined the entire plan, Tiana! You being disrespectful to an Alpha like him is worse.” He hissed.

I could see Tiana was shaking in anger and I stood back. I was no match for her.

“You are getting married to him and that is final!”
