CHAPTER ONE

/THE ALPHA’S SECOND CHOICE- A Bid To Hate/

~01- Marriage~

^EMMA’s POINT OF VIEW^

Unshed tears brimmed my eyes as I stared at the shadow of myself in the mirror. I cannot believe that this was happening. It took me hours to finally come into terms with the fact that I was going to get married to the one my sister was supposed to marry.

I have been that girl that has always dreamed of having a loving mate who would go down on his knees to propose to me and I will shriek a ‘yes’ then we will have our happily ever after.

But that was not the case. Right now, I knew My boyfriend, Marcus, was somewhere angry and frustrated that there was nothing that could be done.

“Emma!” My mother’s voice called out, invading my thoughts. I hurriedly blinked back the tears and swallowed the huge lump in my throat before turning around.

Her eyes ran through my body and she gave me a questioning glare. “Why are you yet to be dressed?” She asked.

I did not know if my mother felt the way I felt or if she was trying to put up a bold front. No, it was the latter. At least that was how her marriage came by too. Having mates was really rare in this world, so most of us were used to marrying someone who’s not our mate. I stepped forward, my legs felt too heavy but I did.

“I-”

“No excuse. Get into the dress. I will ask the maid to escort you out. The guests are waiting .” She said abruptly before turning to leave.

My head fell and I slowly gazed at the white lacy gown that was on the bed.

Today, I was going to get married. Today, I was going to be that Luna of an Alpha. Not just an Alpha but Alpha Kelvin, the alpha renowned for… His ruthless and uncaring life.

You might as well have me hanged.

I let the chemise I wore drop to my feet and proceeded to wear a cleaner one. Picking the gown, I could feel the weight I was about to carry already. I fought back the tears as I got into it. The makeup artist came in and helped with the makeup before she left.

No hint of happiness could be found in my eyes. I felt numb.

“Emma, are you ready?” Reina, our maid, called out from behind me and I jolted up.

I stared at her and slowly nodded my head. She helped me with the veil and as she did, I noticed the look of pity on her face.

I did not need her pity. I needed salvation from this.

After we were done, she held my hand and walked me out to the hall where the guests and my husband-to-be were waiting for me.

I had my eyes glued on the Priest. I did not want to look at the questioning eyes of the pack members. My sister was the one that was supposed to be getting married, at least that was what my father announced. Only if they knew the truth, they would have felt more pity for me.

Reina halted to a stop and my father, Alpha Lawrence, stepped forward and took my arm before leading up to where my husband to be stood, his eyes holding with no kind of emotion.

My father’s hand gripped my arms hard before releasing.

A warning. Go according to order.

I lifted my chin and stared ahead of my husband-to-be. I did not meet his eyes but his eyes were hard on mine.

The priest began to speak. I heard nothing, as it went through the left ear, it passed out from the right ear.

“Do you thereby accept Emmalyn Raine as your bride and Luna before the Moon Goddess?” The Priest asked.

My throat bobbed as I awaited his response. For a second. Just a second, I wished Marcus would come in and disrupt this. That he would fight for me.

I held my head up even as the tears threatened to fall and I wanted to hide somewhere, away from the eyes of the people.

“Yes, I do.” Came his husky reply and my hands instinctively clenched the gown.

“Do you hereby take Kelvin Price as your Alpha and Groom, to submit to and love his pack?” The Priest asked me.

My eyes twitched in their sockets. Every part of me screamed no but I willed my lips to answer. “Yes, I do.”

I was doing this for the safety of my pack. I kept chanting it in my head.

“You may now uplift the veil.” He announced.

I noticed no reluctance in the way he picked the tip of the veil and pulled it off my face. Our eyes locked and my lips trembled.

Don’t cry.

“You may now kiss the bride.” He announced again.

I waited for him to take the action first. His head slowly dipped and his eyes still locked with mine, my lips parted. I was expecting a full kiss but when he planted a kiss on the side of my lips, a sigh involuntarily slipped through and my eyes widened.

That was when I saw a reaction from him. His brows arched but I said nothing.

“I now announce you Husband and Wife, Alpha and Luna. Soulmates.”

Everyone cheered and claps resounded through the hall. I dragged my gaze away from Kelvin’s eyes and looked around.

My mother was smiling. Happy that her daughter would be carried away by an Alpha who does not care about life.

My father had a passive face which only meant he did not care at all. If it was my sister, Tiana, or I. He did not care. For as long as we are doing it for the safety of the pack.

I jerked as I felt a cold hand slip into my warm one. I turned and saw Kelvin staring back at me. I instantly composed myself as I noticed people coming forward to congratulate us.

“You found the right choice, Emma. Take a look.” Elder Nia smiled as she eyed Kelvin who gave her a bored look.

They did not know that this husband of mine threatened their Alpha. What a pity!

Other elders from the pack came and congratulated us. My mother responded to most of them while I stood as that submissive Luna beside my Alpha.

When the last person left, a sharp intake of breath from beside me made me swallow lightly.

“Are we done?” Kelvin asked, his tone denoting that he was done with these shitty things.

“Yes, we are.” My mother responded.

He turned to my father. “Good. I will be leaving with my bride now.” He informed us and I froze, blood drained from my face.

I was going with him now?

I faced him with my lips parted in shock and my eyes almost bulging out of their sockets.

“What?!”

“You heard me right. You are going with me now and that is final!”

Instantly, I felt my entire world crumbling.
