Madison’s POV

I didn't remember everything else that happened after that. But what I did remember was yelling at Klaus, telling him that I would not let him take my baby away from me. I could accept everything else, but not him taking the baby away after the divorce.

I'd rather die.

The nurses wheeled me to the operating room, and before one of them placed an anaesthesia mask over my face, I held her hand, making her jolt.

“Don't let him take my baby away. Please.”

She shrugged my hand off and placed the mask over my face, making everything turn black slowly as I fell into a long, dreamless sleep. I wanted to ask why they didn't let me give birth naturally. Why it had to be a surgery.

But I couldn't move or talk.

At first, silence and darkness were all that surrounded me. And then I started to hear the beeping sounds of machines surrounding me. And then, voices. Panicked and worried voices surrounded me and I started to panic too.

“We’re losing her, we can’t save her. Her little heart can’t take it.” One of the voices said and my heart started to pound. “We’re losing the patient too! Get me the defibrillator!"

What were they losing? It couldn't be my baby, right?

If I didn't have my baby, what would be the use of me in this world? My best friend betrayed me with my husband who never appreciated me and wanted to get rid of me after the baby. This child was all I had and she was gone too?

“She’s back.” A voice hovering over my head said even though I could barely feel anything. But then I struggled to open my eyes, meeting the gaze of a man who seemed to be the doctor.

His dark gaze stared at me like a lover looking down at his sanctuary and it confused me for a moment. But…

“My baby.” I forced myself to whisper and the way his face went blank made my heart sink. “Where’s my baby?”

“Give her another dose of anaesthesia.” The doctor ordered, and before I could struggle or argue, my eyes drooped close once again, pushing me back to the darkness I had come out of.

Beeping sounds drew me out of my sleepy state, and I wanted to move, but I couldn't. Even my eyes felt like metal was sitting on them.

My body ached but felt numb at the same time but the only thing I noticed was the empty feeling in my stomach.

My baby.

I tried to open my eyes when I heard familiar voices that made me freeze.

“What now? The baby is dead and she found out the truth. What will you do to her? She’s been asleep for three days. What if she doesn't wake up?” Abbie's words made something in my heart shatter and I felt a tear roll down my face.

My baby… was gone?

“Who cares if she wakes up or not? Divorce her, obviously. The baby was the most important thing and now that she's gone, she can leave too. It's been three awful years with her.” Klaus replied as more tears fell down to the pillow.

“You really are an awful husband.” Abbie muttered with a soft chuckle. “She gave up the entertainment industry for you and this is how you repay her?”

“Well, you assisted me, didn't you? I guess we're both awful? Couple goals, if you ask me.” He replied and the machines suddenly started to beep faster as my heart pounded harshly in my chest.

The soft sobs that escaped my lips got their attention and they both turned to me, Klaus’ eyes widened while Abbie stared at me with a smirk.

“Princess is awake.” She muttered and I struggled to stare at them, my vision blurry.

“How could you… do this to me…? After everything I… did for you…? I loved you with everything I had…” I whispered and Abbie scoffed while Klaus ran his hand through his hair.

“I never asked you to love me. Besides, this is for the best.” He replied and it was my turn to scoff in disappointment.

“What did I do wrong? Why couldn’t you love me? Is it until I die for you that you’ll see how much I love you?”

“Then why don't you go ahead and die?”

Those words sent me into a moment of shock and despair as the machines started to beep loudly.

Everything turned black once again. And I think I fell asleep for a very long time till my body went numb.

Three years ago

“You don't love me? We were supposed to get married. You promised to marry me if I proved I loved you for ten years.” His soft, trembling voice almost had my heart breaking but that was the truth. I didn't love him.

“Cedric…I… I value you as my friend. But you know I've always loved your brother.” I whispered, slowly pulling my hand out of his grip.

“No, you have always loved me! You were blinded by my brother and you know Klaus doesn't love you that way. He proposed to you because of what he would gain from you. You know this. Please don't say yes to him.” He took my hand once again and guilt filled my chest. “Think about me. I've chased you for years… I'm so close to winning your heart—”

“But my heart belongs to Klaus now.” I muttered softly and he froze. “I know he doesn't love me that way but I'll make him fall in love with me. He'll fall madly in love with me.”

“You're going to give up everything for him? Because you love him?”

“Won't you do the same for me?” I questioned softly and his face fell. I hated to use that example but that was the truth.

That was the last time I saw that timid boy who had always chased after me for years.

“And if you regret it?” His voice sounded defeated even as I walked away from him, the tulips he had gotten me lying on the ground.

“I won't.” I whispered to myself, convinced that I would definitely be able to make Klaus fall in love with me like Cedric did.

Cedric never gave up on me however, but I chose to give up on him instead. I blocked him everywhere and made sure we never crossed paths accidentally.

Present Day

My head was pounding so hard as voices filled my ears but I couldn't understand them. I kept slipping in and out of consciousness…

Until I heard someone call out to me and my eyes finally opened. I felt normal, like nothing was wrong with me.

However, the white ceiling at the hospital stared back at me while I kept my gaze on it blankly. A nurse came up to me, asking me questions but I stayed silent, unable to say a word.

Why was I in the hospital? What was happening? Who were these people?

“She’s awake.” I heard a nurse mutter as she checked my vitals but all I could do was stare at her blankly.

I wanted to speak, to ask her what I was doing here. But my throat was patched and I couldn't even bring myself to open my mouth. Every part of me was so sore and numb that even moving a finger felt like I was being pricked by a thousand needles.

Someone else walked in, his figure towering over me for a moment and my breath hitched. He was gorgeous. Like drop-dead gorgeous.

“Enrol her for physical therapy immediately. Inform her family as well. It's a miracle she finally woke up after three months.” His deep voice echoed in my ears, and he seemed to smile at me gently… as if he knew me.

But I had zero idea who he was.

He gave my hand a small squeeze, a touch I barely felt but I registered that he did touch me.

“Welcome back, Madison.” He whispered and if I could move my brows, I knew they would be furrowed right now.

Who was Madison?
