The explosion rocked the entire street.

BOOM!

Concrete rained down, sealing the tunnel entrance beneath tons of rubble.

Alex slammed on the brakes as the airbag burst open in front of him. Smoke quickly filled the road. He shoved the airbag aside, threw open the door, and jumped out of the car.

"Dad!" His desperate cry echoed toward the collapsed tunnel, but there was no response.

Inspector David Cole rushed over. "Alex! Stay back!"

Before Alex could reach the entrance, another section of concrete gave way, crashing onto the pile of debris. A thick cloud of dust billowed into the air.

Ignoring the danger, Alex charged toward the rubble. "They're in there!" he shouted. "We have to move this!"

He grabbed a massive slab of broken concrete with both hands and strained with all his strength, but it refused to budge.

More officers arrived within seconds. David seized Alex by the shoulders. "Listen to me!"

Alex violently shoved him away. "My father is in there!"

David raised his voice. "And if this tunnel collapses again, you'll be buried with him!"

Alex froze. His fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white as he stared helplessly at the completely blocked tunnel.

Thirty minutes later, emergency rescue teams finally arrived—bulldozers, firefighters, and structural engineers all working together to clear the entrance.

As one of the engineers examined the collapse, he walked over to David. "This wasn't an accident."

David frowned. "What do you mean?"

"The explosives were professionally placed," the engineer replied. "Whoever did this wanted the tunnel permanently sealed."

Alex overheard every word. "So... they planned everything."

David gave a grim nod. "They knew we'd chase them."

Meanwhile, inside the armored van, Kendall slowly regained consciousness. His hands were tied behind his back, and a black hood covered his eyes. The steady vibration beneath him told him the van was still moving.

Someone was seated directly opposite him. Then, a familiar, calm voice broke the silence.

"Comfortable?"

Kendall remained silent.

The masked man let out a quiet chuckle. "You've always been stubborn."

After a long pause, Kendall finally spoke. "Who are you?"

"You already know."

Kendall shook his head. "No. I know Daniel Brooks is dead."

The man laughed softly. "You're right. I'm not Daniel."

"Then why use his name?"

"Because dead men make excellent ghosts."

Silence settled over the van once again.

Several minutes later, the vehicle rolled to a stop, and the hood was yanked from Kendall's head. He blinked repeatedly as his eyes adjusted to the light.

He was inside a massive abandoned factory. Large generators hummed continuously in the background, security cameras monitored every corner of the building, and heavily armed guards stood along the walls.

The masked leader stepped forward. "Welcome back."

Kendall slowly looked around. "What do you want?"

A smile spread beneath the man's mask. "The second key."

"I don't have it."

"You've been saying that for twenty-six years."

"I don't."

The masked leader leaned closer. "But your son does."

Kendall's eyes widened in disbelief. "What?"

"He just doesn't know it yet," the man nodded.

At St. Mary's Hospital, Javier stared at the television mounted on the wall.

BREAKING NEWS: Explosion Near East River Tunnel

The reporter spoke urgently: "Authorities believe the explosion occurred during a police pursuit involving unidentified suspects."

Javier immediately grabbed the remote, her heart pounding. Just then, Nina entered the room carrying a cup of tea. "What happened?"

Without taking her eyes off the screen, Javier pointed at the television. "Alex..."

Nina watched the report. No names had been released, but the live footage showed dozens of police cars surrounding the collapsed tunnel.

Javier quickly picked up her phone and called Alex. No answer. She tried again—still nothing.

Her breathing became uneven. "Please... answer..."

Back at the tunnel, Alex's head of security hurried toward him. "Sir."

Alex looked up. "What is it?"

"We recovered something from the scene." He handed Alex a small plastic evidence bag containing a single silver cufflink.

Alex frowned. "That's my father's. It must have fallen during the kidnapping."

Alex turned the evidence bag over. Something was engraved on the back—a tiny number: 17.

David leaned closer. "What does that mean?"

A memory suddenly surfaced in Alex's mind. "When I was a child... my father owned seventeen private storage facilities."

David immediately understood. "You think this is a clue?"

"My father never engraved numbers on his belongings," Alex said quietly. "He only did it when he wanted me to remember something important."

David looked at him. "Do you know where Storage Facility Seventeen is?"

Alex didn't hesitate. "I do."

An hour later, Alex, David, and a tactical police team arrived outside an old warehouse near the harbor. A rusted sign hanging above the entrance read: Storage Facility 17.

The building looked abandoned, its walls weathered by years of neglect.

Alex stared at it. "This place has been closed for years."

David signaled to his officers. "Move in carefully."

The team quietly surrounded the warehouse, and an officer forced the door open with practiced precision.

The inside was silent and dust covered every surface. Rows of forgotten wooden crates stretched across the dimly lit warehouse.

Alex slowly walked deeper inside, scanning every corner. Then, something caught his attention: fresh footprints standing out clearly against the thick layer of dust.

"They've been here," Alex said.

David crouched to examine the tracks before nodding. "And they left recently."

Alex followed the footprints through the warehouse until they ended in front of a large wooden crate. His pulse quickened as he slowly lifted the lid.

Inside, there was no cargo—only an old cassette recorder.

The moment he picked it up, the machine clicked to life and the tape began to play automatically. A familiar voice echoed through the silent warehouse.

It was Kendall.

"If you're hearing this, Alex... then they've taken me."

Alex froze.

"I always hoped you'd never discover this, but there are things I can no longer hide." Kendall's voice trembled.

"Twenty-six years ago... I didn't just lose my best friend. I made a decision... that destroyed two families."

Alex's eyes widened. "No..."

The tape crackled with static. Then Kendall spoke six words that shattered everything Alex believed:

"Richard Hale was protecting me."

The recording stopped abruptly, leaving a deafening silence in the warehouse.

Alex stared at the cassette recorder in disbelief. For years, his father had believed Richard Hale was the traitor. Now Kendall himself had confessed the exact opposite.

If Richard Hale had been innocent all along... then someone else had orchestrated the betrayal from the very beginning.

The steady beep of the heart monitor echoed through the hospital room.Alex sat beside Javier's bed, his fingers still wrapped around hers. He hadn't moved in over an hour, afraid that if he looked away, she would disappear again.Javier slowly opened her eyes. The room was dimly lit, and the first person she saw was Alex. Leaning forward in his chair, he had fallen asleep while still holding her hand. For a long moment, she simply watched him.His suit was stained with rain and blood, a bandage covered the cut on his forehead, and his usually neat hair was a complete mess. He looked utterly exhausted. Javier had never seen him like this before. She gently tried to move her hand, and Alex's eyes flew open immediately."Javier." Relief flooded his face. "You're awake. How are you feeling?"A faint smile appeared on her lips. "I should be asking you that." She slowly lifted her free hand toward his forehead. "You're hurt."Alex gave her a soft smile. Alex stared at the photograph displayed on his laptop screen. It was Javier, standing on Nina's balcony. The timestamp showed it had been taken less than ten minutes earlier; someone had photographed her while she was inside the apartment, completely unaware she was being watched.Alex's jaw tightened, and he slammed the laptop shut. "They're getting too close."Kendall nodded grimly. "They're not threatening us anymore. They're hunting her."Without another word, Alex snatched up his car keys. "I'm bringing Javier home."Camille stepped forward, stopping him. "That's exactly what they're expecting you to do."Alex frowned. "What do you mean?"Camille folded her arms. "Think about it. They've been leading us from one clue to the next—the warehouse, the hidden room, the safe, the flash drive, and now... this photograph." She held his gaze. "They're controlling your every move."Alex fell silent. She was right. Every decision he had made, every place he had gone... it was as if
