Chapter 9

Author: Memo Harbor
With the matter of guns finally settled, Cyrus felt a huge weight lift from his chest. In the apocalypse, holding one gave him confidence—whether facing humans or something far worse.

The next morning, he packed his most important belongings into his pocket dimension. Since his apartment was about to be gutted and rebuilt into a safehouse, he would temporarily move into a hotel.

At dawn, three black vans rolled into Cervusa Residence. Uniformed Wyvern Security workers poured out and immediately took measurements of Cyrus' apartment.

The scene drew curious stares from the neighbors.

"What's gotten into him lately? Why all the fuss?"

"Right? I saw him at the supermarket the other day. He actually bought three carts of groceries! Who does that?"

"Hahaha, does he think the world's ending? Stockpiling like that? What happens when it all expires? Total waste."

Another chuckled. "Maybe his brain's not right."

They shook their heads, laughing at Cyrus' actions. Even Diana and Natalie t

  • The Apocalypse Hoarder   Chapter 264

This kind of abnormal event felt all too familiar to Cyrus. It had already happened to him once. There was a strong chance that Kenneth had awakened some kind of ability.Cyrus had considered this possibility after his rebirth. Gamma radiation had altered his genetic sequence and turned him into something different. If that could happen to him, then others could awaken as well.Yet over the past month, more than 1,000 people lived in the complex, and not a single second case had appeared. That meant the conditions were brutally strict. Genetic mutation was already a one-in-a-billion occurrence, and even then, the direction of mutation was random. Most mutations proved useless or fatal. And yet Kenneth had become the second awakened individual besides him.'Does awakening only happen when someone is on the verge of death?' Cyrus thought. 'If so, that condition is absurdly harsh. If an awakened ability cannot immediately repair the body, then awakening is meaningless if it leads to

Cyrus said, "Zoey, you worked hard. Well done."She smiled and shook her head. "I'm just glad I could help."As they spoke, Chloe suddenly walked over with the baby in her arms. She lifted her face toward Cyrus, her expression pitiful. "Cyrus, we haven't eaten all day. Could you get me and the baby something to eat?"Cyrus looked down at her, amusement flickering in his eyes. If not for Kenneth, he would have thrown this troublesome woman into a snowbank already. She had succeeded in disgusting him, and in his mind, that alone marked her for death. There were still others he needed to deal with tonight. For now, she could keep breathing.Without another word, he flicked his hand. A full case of pasta appeared in front of her."Take these and eat. You're Kenneth's family, after all. I won't let you starve."Chloe stared at the box, stunned. "What… What kind of trick is that?"Cyrus did not bother answering. He did not care whether she understood his ability. Dead people did not

The residents in the surrounding buildings felt their nerves snap taut when they heard Cyrus' words, as if they had seized the last rope while falling into a pit.Deep down, they knew he might be lying. Still, people preferred to lie to themselves. Believing in survival was easier."He's not going to kill us? Thank God. Thank God.""Exactly. We didn't attack him. This has nothing to do with us.""He's already killed so many people. He must be exhausted. I don't believe he can wipe out the entire complex."Until people faced absolute desperation, they would not smash an egg against a rock and stake their lives on a miracle.Cyrus offered them that miracle. They accepted it eagerly, buried their heads in the sand, and convinced themselves the danger had passed. After finishing the announcement, Cyrus turned to the nearby residents. "That's it for tonight. Go back and rest."Some hesitated. "Let's stay a little longer and warm ourselves by the fire."The flames radiated comfort.

  • The Apocalypse Hoarder   Chapter 261

The fire in Building 21 burned for more than half an hour. The flames gradually weakened, but the smoke never let up.By any reasonable judgment, no one inside could still be alive. There was no ventilation and no way to keep the toxic smoke from flooding their lungs. The only possible outcome was a slow, agonizing death.Even if someone had miraculously survived that long, remaining inside meant death sooner or later. The smoke would not clear anytime soon.Cyrus turned and headed toward Building 26. "Let's go. Next one."The neighbors from Building 25 had gone blood drunk. This was their first experience with killing in such a clean, overwhelming way. The sensation of holding other people's lives in their hands sent a thrill through bodies that had been suppressed for far too long. They whooped and followed Cyrus toward the Titan Gang's territory.People in Building 26 watched from their windows. When they saw Cyrus approaching, terror hit them like ice water.Someone shouted

The windows were sealed shut, frozen solid beneath layers of ice and snow. No amount of pushing or kicking made them budge. The building had become an oven, and they were sitting ducks trapped inside. Smoked ducks.Cyrus stood outside with his rifle. Yellow firelight bathed his face, warm and steady. He remembered a bonfire night in college when everyone laughed, sang, and danced beside the flames. It was a good memory.Tonight's bonfire dwarfed that one. This fire was bigger, wilder, and far more honest.Only then did the neighbors grasp what he was doing. Screams and corpse-like coughing rose from within the building, sending a chill through them. The building had become a death cage. There was no escape.Cyrus had blocked the only exit. They could stay inside and die, or they could come out and die faster.Soon, someone broke. A figure staggered down the smoke-filled stairwell, choking, eyes useless. He stumbled and fell straight into the flames.A piercing scream rang out. T

  • The Apocalypse Hoarder   Chapter 259

The residents of Building 25 followed Cyrus' orders. They armed themselves and formed a loose ring around Building 21.None of them understood his plan. If a fight broke out, the flimsy "encirclement" would look pointless.Inside the building, the Mad Wolves finally sensed that something was wrong."Cyrus brought people! They're surrounding us!" a lookout shouted.A chill tore through the gang, their hair standing on end. Cyrus had slaughtered so many earlier, including their boss, Marco, that the survivors already teetered on the edge of collapse. Hearing that he had come for them pushed their fear toward outright panic."We're finished! How are we supposed to fight that demon? He's too terrifying!" a blond kid wailed, clutching his head.Damon, the Mad Wolves' second-in-command, stormed over, seized him by the collar, and slapped him twice. He spun on the others and roared, "What are you afraid of? This building is our base! Even if Cyrus has guns, he bleeds the same if he com
