Chapter 83

Author: Ada Plus
Everyone looked worn out except Zeph. Poppy still had tears clinging to her lashes, her face pale, as if she had just seen something terrible.

No one spoke. The three men moved in sync, hauling the water tank.

Nicole put away the boat and picked up a bundle of firewood, heading upstairs. Beatrice walked ahead of her, stumbling as if she might fall.

Nicole's hands were full, so she leaned in and steadied Beatrice with her shoulder.

They kept climbing. Something about Beatrice's steps was off.

Outside the window, countless creatures burst from the sea and hurled themselves at the yacht.Another slammed into the glass. Its slender body and broad, papery fins stayed pressed against the window for several seconds before it dropped away.Nicole finally got a good look at it. Flying fish! They filled the ocean as far as she could see, leaping into the faint dawn light and spreading their winglike fins to glide through the air.Nicole saw footage of this on TV before. It was spectacular, the sort of sight that made people marvel at the wonders of the ocean. In person, it made her skin crawl. She and Zeph scrambled out of bed and rushed toward the deck. The door was still closed, and Cola clawed frantically at it.Poppy beat them there. She stood with a gun in her hands, tense and alert, unsure what was happening."They're flying fish," Zeph told her.Poppy never saw anything like this before. Her face lit up at the thought of fish that could fly.Cola wrestled the door

  • The Apocalypse Survival Manual   Chapter 801

Worried a shark might've dragged Zeph off, Nicole changed into comfortable clothes and headed out onto the deck.Zeph was still there, and apparently, he caught something.Curious, she walked over and bent down to look in the bucket.Zeph didn't expect her to lean in so suddenly. He was pulling back on the rod, fighting another fish, and barely managed to shout, "Careful!"Too late. A fish shot out of the bucket, snapping at Nicole's nose.Everything she survived left her with quick reflexes. She instinctively stepped back twice, dodging it.The fish dropped back into the bucket, splashing water across the deck.Nicole stared at it. "What did you catch?"The fish on Zeph's line fought hard, and his momentary distraction gave it a chance to escape. He reeled in the slack. "A croaker."A croaker? Since when were those things out for blood?Nicole pulled out some mesh, fastened it over the bucket, and leaned in for another look. That wasn't a croaker. That was a piranha! An

Zeph loved both Nicole and Poppy. He had to find a way to do right by both of them without hurting either. He and Nicole had both been reborn. They knew just how ugly people could be. She looked at him. "What would you do if Poppy and I ever fought over the storage space?"There was no safe answer. It hadn't happened, and Zeph didn't know what he would do, much less what the right choice would be. "Nicole, the storage space is yours. Don't get yourself worked up over what-ifs."Nicole let it go. If that day came, they would deal with it then. There was no sense making herself miserable over something that might never happen. If she kept thinking like this, she would start doubting everyone and creating problems that weren't there. The tectonic plates collided, the land sank, and the whole planet was in chaos. The landscape changed, the currents shifted, and nothing worked the way it used to.They drifted east in the morning, then south that afternoon. The currents were as

As long as Mount Evercrest stood, Nicole believed they could still hope there was dry land somewhere. However, disaster after disaster broke the Earth's backbone until nothing could hold it together.Even while preparing for the worst, Nicole clung to a small spark of hope. Now that, too, was gone. She stared at the empty stretch of ocean where the mountain once stood, unable to take it in.-After hours of rocking on the ocean, Poppy started feeling sick again, but she didn't say anything. Then she spotted a survivor clinging to a makeshift raft.He was too far away for her to make out his facial features, but she could see how weak he was. There was no telling how much longer he could hold on.She was lucky to have Zeph and Nicole. The escape pod rocked, but at least she had room to move. It kept her out of the sun and wind, and she never worried about food or water.Poppy stayed quiet. There was nothing she could do to save him. She looked away before it hurt even more.T

  • The Apocalypse Survival Manual   Chapter 798

The pod kept rocking, but Nicole left her eyes closed and drifted back to sleep.Zeph drew back the curtain. Outside, it was pitch-black, though he could make out a few stars overhead. The stars were beautiful. Below them, the world lay in ruins. He tucked the blanket around Nicole and closed his eyes to get a little more rest. He dozed on and off until dawn.Cola stood with his paws braced against the window, peering curiously into the distance. "Woof!"The sea was calmer, and the rocking eased considerably. Nicole unbuckled her harness and leaned over to look. The sun was rising over the ocean. A thin veil of mist hung over the water. The red sun slowly climbed, glowing gold as its rays pierced the haze and washed the sea and sky in crimson.Such beauty in a world so cruel.Nicole took out her phone and snapped a picture of Cola watching the sunrise through the window.Poppy felt much better after some sleep. She quietly ate her warm rolls and plain oatmeal."The waves are

Nicole made sure to check Cola. He looked dazed and badly shaken, but Zeph kept him safe through the ordeal, stopping him from panicking completely. He sprawled on the floor, panting. After half an hour of rest, he looked much more alert.Nicole checked her storage space with her mind. In her rush to put their lunch away, she didn't think about where to put it. The bowls ended up in the living room, with potato casserole spilled all over the floor. So much for lunch. She would have to find them something else. This time, she brought out sautéed beef. With no reason to hurry, they took their time eating. After lunch and some juice, she sent Poppy and Cola off for a nap. They spent nearly two hours in her storage space before she returned the pod to the ocean, where it rose and fell with the waves.Nicole drew back the curtain, and bright light flooded in.The worst of the tsunami triggered by the sinking land was over. But as far as she could see, there was only open ocean, fier

"Ah!"Nicole Floyd jolted upright in bed, gasping. Sweat streamed down her forehead, her eyes unfocused and hollow. The sight in front of her cut through the haze in her mind. This was her old apartment, the one from before the apocalypse.Ding, ding…Text alerts kept chiming. She grabbed her p

Nicole didn't hesitate. She blocked Edward right away.Less than a minute later, her phone rang again. It was an unfamiliar number. She didn't need to guess; this was Edward's classmate or one of his friends.Given a second chance at life, Nicole had zero interest in being taken for a fool. She w

Nicole never expected the new resident of 1801 to be the same young man who had helped her at the courier station. He looked mildly surprised, too. He nodded once at her, then went back to work.Up close, he was striking in a cold, sharp way. He was tall and lean, with broad shoulders and clean li

Two miles was nothing. The Hummer reached the entrance to the complex in just a few minutes.Nicole handed the man 400 dollars, thanking him for saving her and for ignoring traffic rules. His voice stayed cool. "No need. I was heading this way, anyway."Seeing he wouldn't take it, she didn't push
