Before the servants could respond, a tall, well-built figure stepped into view.

When she saw who it was, Mrs. Ryder’s eyes lit up. She jumped up from her seat and rushed over to greet him. “Christan! What are you doing back?!”

“Mom.” Christan gave her a gentle hug and smiled. “I was missing everyone. Thought I’d come home to see you all.”

“You could’ve at least called ahead! I would’ve had the kitchen make all your favorite dishes!”

Christan glanced at the long rosewood dining table. “This looks great. I can eat all of it.”

With that, he made his way to the empty seat beside his father, greeting the family as he walked over.

Grandpa Bryan and Mr. Ryder both nodded slightly in acknowledgment, without much expression.

Sensing the tension in the room, Christan acted like he didn’t notice a thing and said cheerfully, “As soon as I walked in, I heard Mom talk

Before she could figure it out, the man greeted politely, "Mr. Bryan, you're here.""Mr. Kim, sorry to keep you waiting!" Grandpa Bryan replied.Mr. Kim… That name rang a bell…Suddenly, a flash of realization hit her—Serena remembered.Wasn’t he the same Mr. Kim who had won the bid for the gemstone rough at the stone auction the other day?Grandpa Bryan warmly introduced them. “This is Mr. Kim. He’s been in the gemstone business for many years and is known for his excellent reputation. He’s highly trusted by both his peers and his customers.”Mr. Kim waved his hand humbly. “You flatter me too much! Compared to you, I wouldn’t dare claim any expertise.”Then his eyes landed on Serena’s face, visibly stunned by her appearance. “And this young lady is…?”Grandpa Bryan chuckled, “This is Miss Knowles! At yesterday’s auction, she stopped me fro

Raising his eyes to look at the old man, Christan said, "Grandpa, don't worry about Celia. I'll talk to her and try to help her through this.""Alright, go try talking to her," the old man nodded. "Your mother’s tried several times in the past few days, but that girl’s stubborn as a mule—nothing gets through to her. You two have always been close since childhood. Maybe she'll actually listen to you."Seeing the sorrow on Grandpa Bryan's face, Christan suddenly felt a wave of guilt. He said earnestly, “Grandpa, you’re getting older now. You should be enjoying your golden years in peace, not getting worked up over things like this. This whole mess Celia’s gotten into—it's my fault as her big brother. I’ve been so focused on work, I neglected my family. I should have noticed what was going on with her sooner.”The old man waved it off. “You’re a man—building your career first is no sin.

“Yeah. This morning.”“This morning?” He frowned, a flicker of doubt in his eyes.He had spent the morning outside Serena’s apartment complex, trying to talk to her. Could it be...?“Grandpa!” he probed, “Are you talking about the stone auction in Vernon this morning?”The old man looked up, surprised. “How do you know about the stone auction? You’re so busy you barely come home, but you’re keeping up with stone auctions now?”“I… I just happened to overhear someone mention it. Since I know you’re into gemstone, I paid a little extra attention.”“Hmm.” Grandpa nodded, not thinking much of it. “Yeah, it was at the auction.”Knowing Serena had also attended that auction, Christan’s curiosity spiked.Trying to contain his excitement, he asked, “Grandpa, can you tell me what happened?”

A black Jeep drove down the main road of Vernon. The driver held it in as long as he could, then finally blurted out in a low voice, “Boss, after what happened last time, you should know by now—this woman is not easy to mess with. Push her too far, and she really will call the cops! You’re a public figure. Getting involved with someone like her won’t do you any good.”“Did I say I wanted to get involved with her?” Christan smiled faintly, but his eyes were deep and unreadable. The driver kept his eyes on the road. “You didn’t say it, no. But we just got burned by her this morning, and yet here we are again this afternoon. Why come back?”Then, muttering under his breath, “I think I just saw her car. She sped up when she passed us. Clearly wants nothing to do with us.”Christan's smile widened. “Yeah, I saw her too.”“Then you must&rsqu

On the other end, Xavier furrowed his sharp brows, his voice lowering. “Serena… you’re not doing this because of Clint, are you?”Serena let out a dry laugh. “What do you think?”“You told me you’d never have anything to do with him again, but… Gaius is his father…”“Stop overthinking. I just want to know if his death had anything to do with my dad.”“But a few days ago, I offered to look into it for you, and you said no. What changed?”“I…”Serena recalled the strange reaction her mother had when she mentioned Gaius and Dr. Beckett. Her brows furrowed tightly.“I’ve run into some odd people lately—and some even odder situations. I think it’s time I figured out what really happened back then.”“Odd people and situations?” Xavier lounged on his extra-wide luxury hospit
